I am so glad to hear your home. Hopefully you will be able to get some sleep soon.
I came up with a special mantra or tongue twister . Pre planning pottying prevents puddling (or you could pronounce it piddling if preferred). :heehee:. I think that is a great way to remember this helpful advice. Thank you for the inspiration Nana2-8 I need to remember this stuff as I am coming up on my surgery in a few days.
It sounds like you are in good hands and being taken care of well by your DH. I believe tomorrow will be better for you especially after a little shut eye. Sweet dreams:sleeep:

@Nana2-8 - You're right - brutal is the word for the first few days, but it does get better. I was glad I bought some cheap underwear for the journey. After puddling incidents, I just threw them away! I think lack of interest in food is very normal. I felt a bit like I did when I was pregnant. Had a craving for ice cream, so just went along with that...

Now I'm trying to greet you from my IPad and it's giving me troubles with password You just know I'd be much more chatty and descriptive if I weren't limited to using my phone!

Sleep finally kicked in between 3 and 6! So I'm feeling more human. Got my qt size ice pack in place. Interestingly, I have (I think) two incisions More later. Just wanted my BS buddies to know I'm alert!!

48 hours later: can't believe it's that far behind me!!! My adventure started with the Chechen in nurse! I have really good veins and she blew it ( literally). Dr showed up on time and autographed the hip. Greg appeared (anesth) and for some reason sent Dh to the waiting area. I didn't even have a chance to give him a kiss. Next thing I was vaguely aware of was recovery area. Dh says it was about 1-1/2 hours later. I then was rolled out of recovery and put in a "path" room. I think they were monitoring me for any chills- which as far as I know didn't happen.
Finally got to my room at 1ish. They said I'd get a pain pill as soon as I got there. The poor nurse was required to do so much (going over all the same stuff I had to do upon chech-in). That was frustrating to me. Finally got my pain pill at 2-30. Had to use a bed pan and the brought in this huge thing to which I said there has to be something sleeker!! They found the low profile one, but arranged it backwards so they spilled it upon removal! So now, because of that, they wanted to stand me up so they could change the bed. Didn't happen. I could tell they were so nervous about it, I told them to throw another chucks over it....fine with me! Then the wrist was blowing up so they moved my IV line. Checked BP every half hour for three hours then to every hour all night long!
At one potty stop, the cute nurse got to talking about hair. So at something like 3AM I gave her a demonstration with my magic volume spray .... And did my hair!!! Yea! Now I looked paid attention to for DH when he brought me McD egg biscuit for breakfast at 7AM. They also walked me around the halls.... Not all that far... In the wee hours. So next up is PT - how to use a walker up steps into house, and how to get into a car. DH watched very carefully. Dr showed up to tell us that my bone was severely arthritic and crumbling He had no idea how I had gotten around for as long as I did!! That's sorta reassuring. That I really did need this. Then started all the pill explanation and going over pt page. Discharge paperwork done and off we went! Got home around 11:30.

It's great to be home but it's so much easier to ask a nurse than to bother my loved one. He has been so attentive. He's so proud of my accomplishments. Our son dropped over to figure out my iPad and DH urged me to show how well I can stand up. In the ways of daily life, there is one particular move that is brutal and there's no way to avoid it- getting up and down.
Yesterday, I was so grateful for the PGA championship that we could watch all day and today is the final day so DH will have something to watch while on "nurse" duty! - Here's to better hours and tomorrow's. Gotta put my head down now.

@Nana2-8 it does get better. My hubby thinks I don't need him anymore at two weeks out. Which is not true. He still is doing much. Hopefully your journey becomes smoother.

Oh. Believe me, I'm sure DH thinks I'll be doing well enough that he can go to the office!!!! That scares the stuff out if me. (And maybe that's a good thing...getting the "stiff" out).
Before, I said today was the final day of golf. Not so. Sunday is. But in my foggy brain. I keep asking DH what day this is.

@Nana2-8 I have two incisions also. Need to ask the OS about them on Tuesday. My thinking is really loopey -- and I'm not too steady at all. Kind of slushy all around. I now can do most of the daily crossword puzzle but it's on slow speed --feel rather like a turtle. I checked the article on recovery time and it's 3-4 weeks for the anesthesia -- so two more weeks to go for my head to work better. Drink lots of water --it really helps.... Jen

@Nana2-8, there you are!!!!!! :wave:
I've missed ya girlfriend! Oh yes, those race to the bathroom trips can be daunting! I wish you lived nearby, so I could give you the bedside commode I never used! How are you feeling? I'm so happy you're home! Remember, ice, ice and more ice AND slow and steady she goes. :flwrysmile:

You have indeed arrived!!! HURRAY!!!! I know those beautifully-colored ice packs are getting a work-out, and I'm so happy that you've settled in at home, learning how to best maneuver all the tricks of being so freshly post-op, getting to the bathroom with time to spare, etc.! Some of my biggest issues in the 3-4 days post-op were nausea, but that settled down. I'm telling you, Kathy, the golf clubs are calling your name!!!! It won't be long now!!! xoxox

CONGRATS!! I hope you are continuing to be treated like a queen!

Pre planning pottying prevents puddling (or you could pronounce it piddling if preferred). :heehee:

Love it! *note to self - Depends and extra undies*

I have (I think) two incisions More later.

Hmmm, I am interested in the story behind that one! When you are feeling up to it I would like to more about the 'brutal' nature of getting up and down - as I haven't been there I would like to understand it a wee bit more...

Dr showed up to tell us that my bone was severely arthritic and crumbling He had no idea how I had gotten around for as long as I did!! That's sorta reassuring. That I really did need this.

Justification! :yes!: We all need more of that!

@JMACCA -think about it.....every single time I have to get up (to go potty, to sitting on the toilet, getting up from that,then sitting/laying back down, then elevating leg). Those are the times that feel "brutal"....like all the area of the incision is ripping apart. We know it isn't, but those movements remind us that something big has happened here!! And I'm icing non-stop surprisingly walking with the walker is not as bad as I thought, unless I take too long a stride. But standing up straight feels so good. I have no idea how it will be in a few weeks, but right now I think this journey may have also corrected my aching back. Hope so.

Sunday's recovery report: I'm still confused as to what day it is....I keep asking DH. Sleep is still alluding me. At some point during doses, I made notes on my phone. I luckily have saline nasal spray and have used it plenty of times.....oxygen really dries out the nostrils! Also, forgot to tell you, not one person mentioned that I had nail polish on. Oh, you know how I referred to the bacterial spa scrub and was relieved that it wasn't those awful wipes? Well, as soon as I got to the pre up room... Guess what they handed me? Yup! Those awful wipes! I was barely dry from my "spa" wash.....what the heck? Did they think our car was infected?

Last night was a scene from a sitcom! DH must have been exhausted and went to bed shortly after my oxy dose. I was so sound asleep when he checked on me that I greeted him with such a cheery "good morning". Immediately set forth to get up to go potty and asked him to pour me a Pepsi ( my usual sub for coffee) while I accomplished my task. Told him I'd sit up for awhile. All this alert activity! THEN I realized it was 2:30 AM. Felt wonderful! So, after only a few sips of soda, I thought it would be good to lay down again. At about 3:30 the pain started....in earnest. I moaned and groaned and finally was crying when DH came around the corner with me saying, like some druggie, "I need an oxy!" Very restless after that. Thing is, I couldn't reach my pills. Wanna bet that won't happen again? Hate that I'm now playing catch up.....but, have I said it beforehand? I'm loving my ice packs!!!
It's the start of a new day.....one new day more since the surgery!!

And soon those days will stack up - in no time it will be a week, then two, then three and you will start to see what all the fuss is about! Standing straight, then eventually walking straight. It was all a revelation to me and I still can't quite believe it. I've had a couple of night where I have dreamt I was still waiting to have the op. It was pretty good to wake up! :yahoo:

The memory issue post-op is a real thing! I would take a pain pill and literally five minutes later I couldn't remember if I had taken it or not. That's when DH went and bought me a little erasable crayon board so I could record when I took a dose. It was a life saver! Keep the ice going and DO NOT forget to take your pain meds...I did it once, paid the price and never forgot again. Hope you're feeling better today...this first week or ten days can be a real doozy!

I am so glad to read about your experiences and that we've arrrived here on the other side! Glad to be here with you. I hope today is gentle with us.

@Nana2-8 It's two weeks since the "big day" and I'm still somewhat dopey. (Combo of general anesthesia and Percoset?) I rely on the newspaper and TV schedule to know what day it is. As to meds -- I write down what I take when but it's still a little of a **** shoot as to if I really "rolled the dice" ! Think I need a daily pill container :arrow: Only a few more days on the Lovenox shots then we'll see what I get next :chinstroke:

@Chihuahuan thank goodness, I have one of those huge pill boxes- morning,noon,evening,bedtime one. As of today, I am trying alternating oxy, then 4 hours later instead of oxy, taking 2 500mg Tylenol with something else in my newly prescribed stash.
The big news of today: DH went to the office from 9-3, and I wasn't nervous about it at all. Had a good snooze ( only interrupted by robo calls! But the biggest news....."Houston! We have cleared the exit!" At least I now know that the exit hasn't been cemented shut! Could have been no more than a rabbit drop, but I'm not complaining. My diet has been awful so im thinking it was a combo of the drugs, and a bit more walking around, and I suplemented with two chocolate covered prunes. Whatever, it worked/is working! What day is this?....4 days post-op?

@Nana2-8 Congratulations :yes!:
Agree --it's a combination of lots of things especially lots of fluids and walking more. The bran super-muffins I made have worked well.
DH leaves me alone for a while most days --gym, groceries, etc. Best time to have a nap. This afternoon OS called to change my appointment to earlier in the day tomorrow so I hope I've written it down correctly.
Have a good evening. Jen
