@dianehelen sounds like you are ready to go this Wednesday. If you're anything like me, the closer the surgery date came the more I just wanted to get this show on the road. I was so tired of the anxiety and waiting. I am 4 weeks out as of yesterday. Just to give you some good thoughts...,I went into my office yesterday for about 3 1/2 hours. I had US Rep. Daniel Webster request a tour of our center and I felt I needed to be there to meet with him. I am not "officially" back to work yet. I really think I will be ready in about 2 weeks to start back part time. I tell you this to give you positive vibes about your surgery. Life gets so much better. Today I am taking it easy...knee is just a bit more achy...probably because of yesterday....but icing, elevating and meds are handling it. You got this girl....go for the good life.

Thank you so much @Diane LTKR that really gives me hope. These last few days have been rough with my 2 speed mind manic obsessive organizer to sobbing blubberball. Just about to get.my last haircut for a while.

And on I go.

Some hard candy or mints, you mouth will get dry

Lip balm
Slippers
Your walker

@dianehelen. @Happydale recommended some relaxation audio tapes before my surgery. Maybe you would like to check them out? It might help reduce your anxiety (terror)?

Just back from haircut & pedicure. Have been going to same place for 25 years. As I walk in, start talking to the girls at the desk about my upcoming surgery. There is one of the stylists, a guy my age who I see there all the time but don't really know. He hears my conversation about knee replacement and starts telling me that he did a btkr last november and did great. Said very little pain, pt was easy, and he was back to work, standing all day ding hair in 6 weeks. Also, amazingly his OS was the dr that did my hip, in the same hospitall I hated. Go figure. Guess I was just lucky (not). Amazing the range of recovery there is for this. He said he never iced once he left the hospital and did great. So wierd. I wont know where in the range I am till I'm there. But always gives me hope when I hear these stories. He said he wishes he did 5 years ago. Ok that's my story of the day

Anyway, all these orthopedist are jocks anyway....into sports, so it does attract a certain type.

I can't think what else to add to your list...oh, toothpaste and mouthwash. I wouldn't take a good nightie tho...just in case of body fluid leaks...take a schmatte.

And you said schmatte HAHAHAHA another word I bet few here "get". But nahh my nightgowns are not fancy or expensive, just comphy for me

They will give you those lovely socks with rubber buttons on the bottom which are also handy for walking.

Keeping busy with prep is good for your manic obsessive mind right now. What color toes did you get? I got my hair cut practically in a crew cut so I wouldn't have to deal with hair. That's when I went white for the first time, also....not having to deal with roots.

Ya got my hair cut short. I don't color my hair, it has stayed dark brown, no gray, another one of my anomalies. Toes, no polish, just nicely cut, buffed,

Yes, another dialect for sure. Here in western homogenous Canada few would know schmatte, either.

My drain slipped out by itself around day 2 spilling blood and gore all over me and the bed. From the container, not my body. But I was so weak I never put on the clothes I brought, so no harm. Stayed in hospital gowns the whole time.
Your hair is still brown! WOW. Lucky you. A big ordeal you don't have to deal with.

@dianeltkr what wonderful positive words ! Good for u!!

I didn't have a drain. A lot of us here haven't. I don't know why some do and some don't.

I didn't have a drain the first time, had one just overnight the second time. O and I forgot to tell you that 1 week post op last summer I was surfing in the Atlantic!:rotfl: Take all those stories with a grain of salt.

1 week post op last summer I was surfing in the Atlantic!
Ha. But no , this guy, really was honest. All the other people in the shop also told me what an easy time he had and really was back to work in 6 weeks.

I'm lucky I don't have to deal with the back to work stuff

I thought everyone had a surgical drain. It just lets out excess blood and fluid. It is painless but just another thing to carry when getting up to the potty. Stays in for 1-2 days. No biggie.
I had a peripheral nerve catheter as well, inserted in the recovery room, which pumps in bupivicaine by gravity...has a little pouch at the end of the cath. Just goes into the quad muscle. Stays in about 5 days...go home with it. Supposedly provides pain relief but of course my pain was in my nerve so not sure it did anything. Between that and the drain, going to pee was a big production.
