Diane's Knee Quest finally the real deal

Mamazipp, no problem. There is so much information it can be overwhelming, and so many different routines. I'm a research "nut" and when I decided to go ahead with surgery I made sure I understood everything that will be done and every medication I'll receive. :snork: Like I said, I'm a little nuts like that.

That's not nuts that's being informed. I should have questioned my first OS more but I had him do my TKR because of another doctor's recommendation.

I agree, informed is not nuts. Remember I was turned down by one OS for asking too many questions. In hindsight now, I'm glad he did. If a dr does not want to inform, then he is not the right dr in my opinion

I'm going to say good luck now because I'm working late and I'm having work done on my house on Tuesday and my internet will be done. I'm sure all will go well. You've got everything ready now it's time to get that new knee. There is one last thing to do though before surgery. You can set up your post op thread so you'll be ready to post when you're able to.

@newlybionic Thank you Marian. You are so thoughtful and have a been a big help to me in this prep part of this journey.

I will start my recovery thread Tuesday night before my early bedtime and hope to be on there sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday.

We will anxiously wait for your report. You have everything you need, you are well prepared, you have your bone smarties sport crew. All systems are go!

Best wishes for your new knee! look forward to hearing from you in a couple days.

You'll do great! I know you don't believe in the power or prayer, but I do, and I'll be praying for you! Hey, it can't hurt, huh?

@sistersinhim hey, I'll graciously take anything ya got :). You are correct, cant hurt. Thank you bunches, for being here, and being one of my beacons of hope

You are certainly welcome. It's my pleasure! Your knee hasn't been through anything close to what mine has, so your recovery should be much better than mine. Each week I can see improvement! I just get impatient sometimes. Sometimes? Nope, all the time! Just don't let anyone talk you into doing anything against the Bonesmart way!

Yes, that will be my first ummm "negotiation" in the hospital. They have already called about setting up my post op pt class. I just yes'd them, and will save my "stand my ground" defense for when im there.

Good for you! I know you'll take up for yourself. You are a strong woman and won't let anyone step on you!! You go girl!

I let them set up my first PT class while I was in the hospital. I didn't feel like dealing with them at that point. I cancelled it when I got home and rescheduled it for the staple release. They wanted me to go to outpatient PT at three days. Yeah, sooooooo not gonna happen. And it didn't. They didn't seem too happy when I cancelled, but tough.

@LoveGiants, when I refused pt, they told me they were going to tell on me! Now, isn't that childish sounding? I told her to go ahead and tell on me. I've been to my OS twice and he has not said a thing about it! He said I was doing very well for what he had to do in there. Don't let pt intimidate you. You are in control of your body, not them. And it's your money if you go, they work for you! You are the boss!

Well the out patient PT will be another story, first up to deal with is the PT in the hospital, but I will go into it with the history of others who have dealt with it.. and just stay strong in what I will or will not allow..

haha love the tattle tale stuff.. really?? give me a break. tell on me.. hehehe

Diane, all they made me do at the hospital was walk a little, show me how to get in and out of bed and recliner/chair, how to lift the leg to the bed, explained best way to get in and out of car, how to go up and down steps and they wanted to make sure I could go the the bathroom and move around with the walker, as far as exercises they showed me the heel slides and extensions. I thought it was all helpful, they didn't hurt me!

We did have a PT class the next morning at the hospital. The PT dude did the "push your operative leg back with your other leg...now let's measure ROM!" Needless to say, I didn't play along. He also was saying, "I had an 80-year old man earlier with 110°!"

What the heck is with these PTs? Seriously, shut up. /rantOver

@uva55 - The PT and OT did the same with me one-on-one the next morning—step onto a platform, step into the shower, and walk. That was fine with me and was helpful to show me how to use the walker while stepping up and down.

PS: They can't threaten to tattle because my OS doesn't think PT is necessary. ha!

Ya well as for using a walker 101, I could teach the class, I used that for months between the 3 hip surgeries.. I know the up, down, and moving mechanics of it, so Im good there, As for bending past what I find comfortable, umm not gonna happen. tattle all ya want.. :)

Very good, ladies! In the hospital pt tried to push a leg a little farther after I had moved it with the other leg and I said no. She said she was going to write me up as non-compliant! Do they really think we're children that can be bullied? I'm so glad that's over with and that I never had to deal with out-patient pt. I'm doing just fine without it!
