Revision THR Complex Revision poor outcome Ehlers Danlos

I learned about probiotics from my excellent pharmacist. It does make a difference which brand you buy as they tend to deteriorate when they sit on the shelf. You want one that is refrigerated at all times. They are obviously more expensive, but I really benefited from the one I was on for a while when taking antibiotics.
Thank you for that info! Our pharmacy situation has deteriorated. Small town and trusted pharmacy closing.. I will certainly look into this tho! Thank you!!

I am 41/2 weeks from debridement from hip infection. I have 13 days left of daily antibiotic infusions. My C-reactive protein has gone down substantionally. Unfortunately, I am having pain near hip joint. It is again positional.. bearing weight especially seems to be in one position area. I have been very careful with both posterior and anterior precautions. I have two weeks of anterior precautions so was hoping there would be no pain now after July 21 revision. It's not to be so I see the OS that handled infection here locally next week and have to do exrays soon. This nightmare will be a year the middle of Oct!

It's very good news about your C-reactive protein results. This is so important. I know it seems like an endless saga, but sometimes an infection can be pretty stubborn and give you all kinds of odd pains as the recovery progresses. It is usually promising if the pain is not constant and in the same location. This will be something to discuss with your surgeon when you see him. I hope things go well at your appointment.

Thank you Jamie. Wish I could see 2nd revision surgeon but I have to wait till last week of October. I had exrays today so soon will know if anything is amiss.

I reread your answer Jamie.. and thinking hard about where pain is. It is in the same place and feels like it's anterior. Groin and buttock on left side. Hurts when sitting with any pressure under left thigh. I'm trying to come to grips with the fact that it might never change due to the releases I signed saying I could be left with pain, etc. those thots keep creeping in.

Thanks....I didn't catch that the pain is always in the same location. It would be good to continue to ask what might be causing this pain. There has to be a reason for it.

I am a bit confused by your description of it, though. Anterior would mean pain at the front of your hip (groin area would be a type of anterior pain). But it would be posterior pain if you have it when you sit and there is pressure under your thigh. So is your posterior pain in the thigh and buttocks? Are any of these pains there constantly?

So sorry for the confusion about location of pain. It is in my groin but when I am walking, it seems to be where I might be violating the anterior precautions a tiny bit. If you remember, my 4 dislocations were all anteriorly. I have those precautions for 12 weeks PO. If I am violating them it is ever so slightly when I take a step.sometimes it's a sharp pain. Posteriorly I seem to be doing well. I can lean over with no pain or strange feelings. It's kind of a " twisted" feeling deep.
The cup is malpositioned if you remember right.. by the first revisionist. 2nd revision, new OS didn't want to remove cup because of the condition of of my bone, so just replaced liner with constrained type and new ball.
My main concern is that it is always gonna feel tweaked. My 2nd revision being July 21, I
Am surprised my gait is so bad limping and using a cane in spite of my third surgery for infection. That surgery seems to have healed and no soreness remains. It was 41/2 weeks ago.

Thanks for the "refresher." That information helps without going all the way back through your thread. I think you probably are on the right track that your discomfort may be due to the misplaced cup and the new restrained liner now in place. Try your best not to push yourself too much when walking. You still have a ways to go with the restrictions and there is time for all this to improve. You might talk to your surgeon about all this, but he may not be able to predict whether or not these feelings will remain after full healing takes place. And remember, that full healing can be a year or more. It will stress your hip to limp, so please use whatever walking aid you need to avoid limping. When walking with the aid, go slow and practice the "heel-roll to toe" movement so you are learning the correct gait with each step.

Thanks for the "refresher."
Thank you Jamie. I appreciate your knowledge and encouragement. Yesterday I had an almost painful day, although by the end of the day, I could feel that it could come back. I was encouraged that it wasn't there so I know it could be so!! I have " poor tissue tension" as per my 2nd revisionist. I'm beginning to realize this may contribute to this pain. There is a clicking sensation, when I'm laying flat and move my leg bent out just a tiny bit. Last night, it felt like maybe something like a tendon moving over bone?

I see the infection OS on Friday.

Meant to write "painless"

Two days ago, I woke up with a really sore little place next to my latest incision from the middle of August when they did debridement for infection. It is not right under the incision
But a little to the side. It's the size of a BB and there is not an opening or redness.
When it woke me up, it was very tender and continues to be. When I touch it, it feels like a needle is in there or a bad bee sting. I can touch it in different directions and in one direction, it hurts way worse. What in the world could this be? I've only felt it for two days. When walking today, I could feel it kinda throbbing.

I have one more week of iv picc line antibiotics. I'm also on two Doxycycline a day. I'm wondering if it would be an infection if I wasn't on all the antibiotics? Will the doctor have to open it? I see the dr that did debridement on Friday.

When I touch it, it feels like a needle is in there
I am wondering if it's a suture? Have you ever heard the phrase "spitting a stitch"?
If not, sometimes the dissolvable ones will work themselves to the surface and it eventually pops out.

You can either wait until Friday when you see your surgeon to inquire about it, watching for any signs of infection such as:
Fever
Unusual or increasing pain
The incision is hot to the touch
A change in the size of the incision
A change in the odor of the discharge
A yellow or green discharge that is increasing
Redness or hardening of the surrounding area
Excessive bleeding that has soaked through the incision

Or, if you want peace of mind, call your surgeon's office in the morning for some reassurance.
Hopefully it's only a suture working its way out.

I agree with Layla's options. Pick which ever one suits you best. If you're worried, don't hesitate to contact the surgeon's office, though. We don't want you in stress mode!

Thank you.. have never heard that! It feels like a round BB! Have never had a pain feel like this. Because it's so round, it just seems weird. I called surgeons office this am and left message but never got a call back. I think they are off on Wed. Since I'm on all these antibiotics.. I'm worried that they will need to open it.. and if so.. I would need to stay on the Piccline!

It isn't improving.. but I talked to the clinic nurse and she talked to the surgeon and she said she wasn't worried and would see me tomorrow.

This is good. I don't feel like it's going to be a big problem, but it's much better to have it checked out and know for sure than to worry about it.

Great news. But how odd they didn't just remove it while you were there. It's a simple procedure usually. At least you know it's nothing to worry about.

Doctor just home from international travel and didn't have time to set up the sterile proceedure. The stitch is imbedded, so she will have to do minor in office procedure. I will have it done on Tuesday.
