Revision THR Complex Revision poor outcome Ehlers Danlos

Sorry you are still dealing with your hip. I agree with CricketHip, a massage therapist with advanced skills may be able to help. You might want to find someone who uses an indirect method such as Reiki, Zero Balancing, or Counterstrain.

Thank you Cricket and Jamie.
The twisted feeling I think is coming from misaligned cup and constrained liner. I have wondered if the pain could be spine related as my spine is very loose and I have run out of options there other than a back brace. But.. it is very localized and has gotten worse rather than better.. especially since my 6 weeks of infusions. Now my knee on that side is very painful and I believe will need replacement eventually. I've been told I'm a poor surgical risk now due to the infection.

I did start very slow with bike but the pain is intolerable. I am going to ask for another PT stint because I have so much weakness, I can't walk very far.

I've never heard of those? I have a book about the Muldowney method for Ehlers Danlos.

I looked up the Muldowney method, sounds interesting, with an appropriate exercise approach for people with Ehlers Danlos. A PT could help you do the the exercises at the right pace for you.

I remember you! I know for me so many of my other body parts have been affected by my THR Feb of 2022. With that said I am glad that I continued with PT for a good year slowly making progress. Given your very extensive history I can just imagine feeling weak. I believe that being in water helped me. I wish that more PT places had water therapy. And again, I do not know if that would be appropriate for you given the hx of infection. But I’m assuming that the infection does not involve the incision at this time. And as @ Jamie mentioned- lifts. Personally I went to a certified pedorthist who studies gait -he’s also a PT). I had special orthotics made and they really do help. And my knee too is affected -but mri and X-ray show mild to mild mod oa. So indeed the part affects the whole. I agree- I think that working slowly with a PT along with massage may help you.

Now to find the right PT! I live in a small mountain town in the Sierra Foothills and we are limited as for specialists in anything unfortunately. I will be checking it out tho.

Well, here I go again! Last revision was July 22.
I've been recovering since then after the infection/surgery/ antibiotic infusions.

The second revision placed a constrained liner
To stop the dislocations (4) with the original revision having a misaligned cup, it has never felt right. The constrained liner helped not to dislocate but as of yesterday, the metal ring on the constrained liner has completely come off the plastic liner. I started having extreme pain 3 days ago and it just kept getting more severe, so I ended up in the ER.
They took an exray and compared it to one taken in Sept. it is shocking. The metal ring has broken and come completely off.

I can hardly walk. I have calls into my surgeons so am just laying down at this point
Contemplating what is ahead of me.

You have been put through the wringer with this last episode of the constrained hip liner breaking apart. :console2:
Keep us posted on your surgeons response when he calls back.

Dr Sah called and asked if I had fallen etc but no I hadn't. He said either he or his associate would do the revision. He will realign the cup and put in a liner that gives more movement. I forgot the name of it. It's a bigger surgery because of having to remove the cup so I expect more pain and recovery. I really can't believe this. The exray is alarming. The metal rim on the constrained liner completely detached and is just hanging there. The pain is worse today so I am in bed. I expect a call this week with a surgery date.my blood work looks good with no infection. So thankful for that. Hate to miss summer tho.

Hi Flower,

Sorry to hear about all the pain you’re experiencing. Hopefully your surgery date will come sooner rather than later. Sending you wishes for relief and a speedy recovery :loveshwr:

Glad you got a fast reply, sorry you have to go through this all over again and miss your summer. Your x ray looks just as painful as you describe.
Thinking of you and hoping you can stay comfortable until you can have your surgery.
Thank you! Third revision, 5 TH surgery on this poor hip! Hoping that changing the alignment will help me recover. Wondering what precautions I will have. I remember when they do work on the bone, it's much more painful

Good Morning Flowerfloosey,
I am sorry to read that you have to endure another procedure and healing process. I do hope this is the last time.
Wishing you an uneventful surgery and recovery and lots of comfort.

Wow…..I agree that is quite an image of your hip. I’m not sure I’ve seen this happen before but am glad you’re getting it addressed quickly. Your surgeon will have to advise you on any potential restrictions during this recovery, but they should be fairly close to what you’ve experienced before. I’m sorry you’re having to go through this again, but we’re here to support you.

Thank you all. It's a year almost to the date since my second revision. The metal ring on the constrained liner fractured. I believe because of the malpositioned cup from first revision. It's never felt right. My surgery date is July 13. They know the precarious position I'm in so will do all the Preop the day before. I'm very thankful for that. Nervous because of all the risks but dealing with my fears as I know there is nothing I can do about it. I'm on lifetime antibiotics.

Thank you! It's been quite a journey. I would like to follow someone with a dual mobility cup?

Following are a few to get you started. You can type “dual mobility cup” into the SEARCH at the top right op the page and threads where it’s been mentioned will pop up.

I have a dual mobility cup. Had it put in during my left hip replacement in February 2022.
