THR Cisne on the other side

Day 33: The medical stuff: Today is day two of the steroid and I'm not sure about improvement yet, but I seem to be less itchy. I did take a Tramadol this AM as stiffness and pain on walking were present. I did my PT exercises and have spent most of my day relaxing.
The non-medical stuff: Quick trip to the grocery for Pavlova ingredients. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about Pavola and Texas sheet cake. Could be the steroids or could be Dougie talking about baking! Made the base, chatted w the neighbors while they were baking (pavlova not the neighbors). Prepped the fruit and made the whipped cream. Ate one for quality assurance then delivered some to the next door neighbors. Took one to the friend who stayed w me post op. Lunch out w DS-yummy Japanese. And now, reading and resting. Hope everyone is well!

That's an awesome day. Pavola sounds awesome, I never heard of it. I will have to look it up and get the stuff to try it. I had my first physio today and they were gentle. Also had my staples removed and that pulling sensation is gone. Enjoy the rest of your day. Cheryl

Day 34 has been a busy day. Ran to the store to pick up a couple of things. Home to bake Texas Sheet cake. Shared with the neighbors. Went to daily Mass, stopped by the office and chatted w a couple friends. Had a good chat w my principal about the coming year. Walked my first flight of stairs. Picked up lunch to bring home. Am now resting. A question: is it normal to have pain near the top of the thigh when walking? This seems to happen as the ball of my foot touches down and then pushes through. Not sure if I'm explaining that well. It hurts way less w the cane than walking w/o.
Thanks,
Michele

Hi Michele

First what is in a Texas sheet cake?[emoji4]
Okay I am 9 weeks out from posterior RTHR. All I can say is the different pains and such are interesting. There are times when pain comes when I least expect and different than I had before.
Then there are the the times that I have done too much, or at least my body thinks, not me[emoji4].
You asked "is it normal"...I have learned that varies from person to person.
As I continue to read (also watch a video after surgery)and understand how much my body had been through the ( short term) pain more sense. Although don't always know the reason for it.
You did the best thing you came home and rested.
Hurts less with cane takes pressure off operated leg.
I wish you the best..

Hi Ro! Thank you for your kind words. I'm reminded again how blessed I am to be a part of Bonesmart. My mom tonight asked why I was still limping. I then have to remind myself that I'm five weeks tomorrow, the pre-op hip pain is gone, and my ROM is so much better. I tried doing my evening walk w/o the cane and found. Can't go far! I debated knocking on a friend's door o get a ride home then decided I could make it 7 more houses! Even if I never lose the cane my hip is so much better than before! (And I know the cane isn't forever!).
Now, on to important things: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/texas-sheet-cake

Your right about the cane.
Keep using it for the longer walks to help your gait.
All of a sudden you'll find you need it less and less.
Doing great though.
Joe......

Before the LTHR I never left my cane behind. Now I'm looking forward to loosing the walker and get back th the cane. All this talk about baking is giving me making me hungry

Hi all! Happy 5 weeks! Hey @dougie0216 can you believe it was a little over a month ago that we were waiting on surgery? I am so pleased w the outcome! That said, there's still work to be done! I'm reminded today how thankful I am to my fellow bonesmarties and the mods! This journey wouldn't be as positive without al of you!
Big hugs!
Michele

Thank you for the recipe! I am glad my response help. I had to remind myself the same things after 4th of July.
I have,a date for my surgery on the left leg. ..September 12. I just keep telling myself next year this time this will behind me. I will only be looking ahead and what will be possible with the hips.[emoji4]
Take care and stay optimistic, Sunflowers help me [emoji258]

Day 37: Today has been a good day. I did my first longer drive, an hour to a knitting shop. No issue w pain or the drive. I was extra stiff getting out of the car, and limped a little more than normal. Came home and realized I was too tired to knit! Ice and nap. Went to Mass this evening, came home and did some knitting. Also finished the last of the steroid pack! Yay! My body is not a fan! Unfortunately, the rash is still very much there. It's, red, swollen, and bumpy. It's warm, but not hot. The skin feels uncomfortable. Be it covers my incision, I'm wondering if I should go to urgent care or wait til I see my surgeon on Wed. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Michele

@Cisne I think on the rash at this point you COULD wait till Wednesday. I would for me call Monday and ask them if you should move your appointment up but that's me. Hugs and prayers I lost your thread it's hard for me to find stuff when the boards are busy

Michele, sorry you are still battling the rash. That's terrible, talk about insult to injury.

I have the option of going shopping with my wife today. 25-mile one-way trip, several chain stores and probably lunch..., I think I am going to pass.

I am saving myself for Tuesday. I have to attend a funeral. It's ok, it wasnt his first brush with the inevitable...when you are diabetic, already have stents and refuse to eat correctly there is some comparative negligence involved.

It will be the first time I've worn long pants and a tie since surgery. I have some loose, relaxed-fit khakis that hopefully can put up with the 50-mile r/t and church pews. I am taking my cane and if the pews are a no-go, I'll stand in the back.

Doug-I'm so sorry for your loss. Taking the cane sounds like a wise idea. I've decided that the person who designed the pews t our church was cruel and sadistic-they are add the weirdest angle! I'm back from a quick grocery run, and now it's time for a walk and exercise. Enjoy your day!
Michele

Hi Michelle,
Is the Urgent Care open today......just to talk to someone? May give you peace of mind if it's bothering you.
I hope the rash eases up and that you have a great day!

Day 39: Got up early this AM for PT. Showed PT the rash. She quickly sent me down to surgeons office. I saw his PT who isn't sure what it is, but prescribed a steroid cream. I'll see the surgeon on Wed. Hopefully it has cleared up by then. Feeling really tired and achy today, so other than a quick trip to the grocery, I think it will be an ice, elevate, and rest day. Hope all my fellow bonesmarties are having a great day.
Michele

@Cisne I hope they get to the bottom of what's going on with the rash. Is it itchy Too? Your body is telling you to rest today if you're achy and tired. It's good you listen. Have a good day, a little TLC. Hugs. Cheryl
