THR Cisne on the other side

@Cisne Well we can both spend the evening of Day 27 cursing ourselves. I'm planning on doing some baking. So I drove myself to the store. It's only three miles...about a mile from the store my boo boo from last night started hurting.

So I am going to spend day28, at home, on ice. Fortunately I have both tramadol and the pills I dont like taking, but I am at present (mumbles under breath.)

Happy anniversary!

@Cisne There's is no shame to a cane. I always take mine on walks or to the store.
Sorry you are still hurting. My pain got better as the day went along.

Happy 4-week anniversary.

I have strict restrictions to use my walker for 6 weeks. I'm 10 days only now and just going a day at a time. Your surgeons are more lenient than mine.

@cpollock, where do you live? You are right the doctor recommendations seem to vary. I had posterior also, but when to switch from the walker was based on my abilities. The PT was the one that gave me the ok to switch.
Speedy recovery.

Day 29: I had a busy morning: went to PT and was told to use my cane b/c of limp and pain. Headed to grocery and picked up items to make stuff for the parade party at my parents' house. Made two simple dishes: corn salad and fruit salad. Iced and a quick nap-on to the parade. Just made it home and w the help of the cane (and some Advil ) I'm back to a 1/2 again! I'm amazed how well I feel simply by using the cane. Walking without it makes me super tired and really increases the pain. Thankful for a good day! Hope all hippies are having a good day as well. I'm off to ice and chat w a friend.

Hi Michele, got the swelling down. I spent from 3-10 pm in the hose and spent 3hrs on over and elevated.
We had severe thunderstorms, so I collected some items to take to the shelter it became necessary. Thankfully it did not. Moving to OK ten years ago gave me a new found appreciation of severe weather.
When I tell people how much I hate hydrocodone they have no idea. I have ADHD so I'm wired backwards to start with. I'm really think those pills make me somewhat manic. I have the most vivid dreams if I am actually able to sleep. Didn't need any today.
I am going shopping with wifey tomorrow. It has been several days once I have been in a car.

The walk felt super good today. The pain from my run-in with the bathtub is gone. I was able to put on TED hose with no trash bag. I put socks and shoes on top in case I had to 'Get Below Ground' which is what you do during tornadoes.
We have a below ground shelter in our garage. It has stairs going down and I can get in and out, I checked a couple of weeks ago.
I didn't play my guitars, there was lightning and I don't plug my amp in if lightning is any where close. Shopping tomorrow and bake cookies Sunday.
Have a good weekend!

@1GreatGran I live in Alberta Canada.
@Cisne sounds like you and your body are in sync and doing well. No rush to get rid of the cane I wouldn't think. I'm glad you had a good day, nice to hear.

@dougie I never thought about my adult ADHD being the reason for my odd oxy/hydro reaction-good though! We, too, had storms here last night. Indiana gets its fair share of tornadoes unfortunately, so I feel u on last night. Glad things didn't get to that point. This is regatta weekend in my little part of the world, so I'm heading to see my mom who has a few family members staying with her. I will not be going to the river to watch the hydroplanes this year, but will head out this evening for fireworks downtown. Enjoy your day and be safe.

@cpollock you are right-the cane is no big deal.in fact it's making a world of difference. Have a great day and hope you are recovering well!

I did enjoy my day, we went shopping. Started hurting on the way home. The roads in OK are terrible, even the freeway/turnpike is bumpy. I am iced and elevated.
We can see the fireworks our little town puts on. they are less than 2-miles away as the bird flies. Technically, we live in the city limits but the land on all sides of our little subdivision isnt.
We have neighbors who take their fireworks seriously. Since I no longer run, I limit my participation to the occasional firecracker.
If I need to run from it, I don't do it.
Bummer on missing the hydroplanes.
There is always next year.

Successful two days with lots of increased activity. After Mass last night, I had dinner with a friend. We then walked to the river from the restaurant. Sat for a couple of hours watching people and fireworks. Walked back to the car, and then home. I'm pleasantly surprised that I'm not hurting this morning. A little stiff, but not much pain. Last night was probably as much walking as I've done in the last month. Im down to Advil for daily pain/discomfort and that seems to work well. On the down side, I've developed an itchy rash around my incision. If it's not gone by tomorrow, I'll say something at PT. Hope everything is well.
Michele

@Cisne what an awesome day you had. My incision is also itching but part of the healing get process. I won't touch it with anything unless I'm told.. when I left the hospital they said to only run water over it when I shower. I put gauze on it after patting it dry. I get the staples out Tuesday. Happy healing. Cheryl

@cpollock @Cisne I'm using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E. The Home Health people recommended it. You can order a 530g/18.7oz tub off Amazon for $8 or $9 US.

The skin around the incision was irritated.
That cleared up as soon as I started using the cocoa butter. The vitamin E also is supposed to help minimize scarring.

I'm not a doctor, but it works for me and I have had zero adverse effects. I apply liberally two or three times daily. It smells good too.

I have used Bio Oil on my many scars and they heal up great. It also works on hands and feet to keep them soft. Glad everyone is healing up nicely.

I have been using Aveeno, but it doesn't smell of anything - I like the sound of the cocoa butter! Seriously, it has been helpful and the skin around my scar definitely feels softer

I was told use nothing near the incision but water. Rashes things like that during office hours I'd call the doctor. I LOVE the day you had above sounds perfect

Hi @Cisne - ditto with me. I wasn't allowed to apply it until my incision was healed and I was cleared by the physio

The cocoa butter and Vitamin E works great...I started with using coconut oil, melts in so well. I use it for alot of things.

I guess every surgeon is different. I also was told I could rinse my incision with water when I shower and not to soap it up. If shampoo runs on it to make sure it's rinsed thoroughly. Also no lotions or anything on or near the incision. Not even polysporin. I have staples though, that a year be why.

So, an update-Went to PT this am and was reevaluated. Strength is good other than glute med. we will do 3 more sessions then look at leg length issue. Showed PT the rash and she sent me to ortho's nurse practitioner who said about 10 percent of patients have a late reaction to the surgical scrub. Suggested Claritin and a steroid pack. I'm waiting to pick that up now. I guess some patients have the rash spree to their entire body. Thankful mine is just near the incision. Hope all is well with all of you!
Michele

Ooh... Let me clarify. Nothing on mine till completely healed up. Used antibacterial with moisturizer Dial soap but didn't wash directly on the incision. Kind of on belly as I had anterior so it ran down over it then rinsed above it so it ran off... Patted dry.
Looking pretty good now.
