MUA CATSMUM's new road to recovery

I had a similar experience with knee #2. Just remember that the knee is boss. Glad you're home.

@kneeper thanks for your reply, nice to know that it's not out of the ordinary for the second replacement to be different to the first one. Leg is now aching plus plus and very bruised all way up to groin area! Bottom of foot is also feeling a little tight but the physio thinks that might be caused by a bruised nerve.

Absolute exhaustion set in suddenly last evening. Had no energy at all. So tired, l was in bed by 8pm. Had to ice the knee 3 times during the night as it was quite sore and achy. Not doing too many exercises yet as want to give it a chance to settle down a little. Got an awful lot of bruising which is causing dull aches and tenderness. I'm taking my pain meds regularly and elevating when downstairs. From reading the journal l kept last time, this is pretty much normal, amazing how easy you forget the pain and discomfort associated with this op.

Day 6 today, knee isn't as swollen as it was a few days ago but still very warm to touch and stiff. Guess that's just the healing process, continuing to ice and elevate. Thought it would be easing up a little by now, or am l expecting too much?
Dressing is being changed tomorrow at the surgery so will see what they think of it. Hope they've also sorted my pain Meds out by tomorrow too as only had paracetamol and naproxen prescribed.

The warmth can hang on--so at 6 days is totally normal.

@kneeper many thanks for your post, don't think I experienced warmth for too long following my previous replacement. I like to worry myself, lol.:loll:

I still have a little warmth seven weeks out. Nothing to worry about unless you have other things going on.

I had a lot of warmth with the first knee, not so long with the second.

Another disturbed nights sleep. Only appear to sleep for an hour or so before the aches and pain wake me up. Think l might need to increase the amount of codeine like take before l go to sleep.

Congrats on what appears to be a good result so far. Sleeping is so hard for awhile. Makes it hard to have a somewhat normal day following. Nap when you can is good advice. Pain meds are a must as you say. I found icing and elevation are also key. Good luck with your new knee.

Thank you. I know it's really early days but can't remember my other being quite as sore as this one is, I'm sure it was but l guess memory only keeps the good parts of that recovery! Hoping that it will feel a lot better when the staples are removed next Friday. Going to definitely review my codeine intake and adjust to make the pain more manageable.

My second knee is very comfortable too - although this was my more damaged one - and it's so tempting to push it a bit. Let's get on a go slow together!

Think that's my problem, trying to run before l can walk and suffering! Need to go slower, did quite a few exercises yesterday! Have done nine today and just been icing, plus plus. Knee quite warm to touch due to swelling!!!
@Hopper good idea, let's all get on a go slow, lol.

Slept better last night. Main aches are now behind the knee, they go when l ice it. Not sure what's causing it but it's very wearing! Anyone know?

So very tired last night. Went to bed very early, even my husband was surprised. The cat, who was on the bed, decided he'd had enough of me and left, he's done that a few times niw, almost as if he knows that I'm not quite healed and need space!
Slept pretty well for being less than 2 weeks post op, fell asleep watching TV, woke up in the middle of a programme! Woke at 1.30, at 4.30 and finally 7am (unheard of normally to wake that late), iced knee and thankfully l was able to get back to sleep shortly after waking so almost a nights undisturbed sleep.
Will do a few gentle stretches today and go for a short stroll with hubby. Physio tomorrow so will see what they think if my progress.
Have a good day everyone.

Very disturbed night, only about 3 hours sleep. Knee very sore. Had begun to change my med times (extending time between taking them) and reducing doses but have reverted back to the original schedule. :boohoo:
