Ha ha lol.I think its funny everyones like " you dont have that bone on bone pain any more " ya thats all fine and dandy a couple of weeks after surgery but those first couple of days right out of the hospital were some of my most painful days ever for my left leg.It does get way better. My right side which is on its 6th week hasnt felt this good in ten years. The left leg on day 15 feels pretty good also.Your doing just fine Mili.Try to focus on the big picture.Plus you have this awesome bonesmart family right beside you.Im snickering here knowing what your in for.NO PAIN.Peace out woman.

@inthebegining what the hell is that medeivel looking contraption. What the...

Ok inthebeginning I just watched the video. That thing is just freaky. And it cost $100,000 wow.I can start making those in my garage and only charge $50,000.

inthebeginning, OUCH! I've never seen the machine they use for a MUA on the knee, but this hip thing sent chills down my legs. :scary:

Butterfly, Part of my reluctance to let those home health care people into my house is that my house is a mess right now. I know that is silly and they are not coming to judge my housekeping or lack thereof - See more at: https://bonesmart.org/forum/threads/butterfly-flutters-over.21447/page-4#sthash.nKuTJKLF.dpuf

I've given up! My kids Clean DOWN faster than I Clean UP! My house is a disaster and I tell anyone who comes to see me, "don't look over there, don't look over there... Eyes forward, we're right here." Lol if they need to use the bathroom, they're gonna have to sit on my throne because the boy's/guest bathroom is OFF LIMITS! I wouldn't send my worse enemy into that toxic dude zone. :no-fin:

I totally get you, and I barely have guests in my home, let alone my bedroom. So, the in home P/T person was something I had to get over. I remember crying one day because I just didn't want him in my home. He was creepy :eeeuw:, bland and I did not like him. May he NOT come to your house. :rotfl: Thank God my son was on summer break. I love my new P/T I have with my second surgery. Turns out my first P/t really didn't do his job. He basically watched me exercise and pushed me past my limits with his commands. I have two different scars to prove it. :gaah: Live and learn right. This was before I became a Bonesmartie. My new P/t tells me not to worry not to worry about the house. She said it looks good considering two young men live there. I've never ran around in a French maid costume with a duster to begin with, so I'm doing my best to FORGETTABOUTIT! I've had to turn off my mommy super hero power of "Seeing the Dirt, Others leave behind" and focus on being the Bionic Woman. I'm recovering from a major surgery, so... when can, I do.

Along with the 2nd surgery came a "who gives a $&)@" disposition. I now allow people whom I trust, to see my dust. HEY! I just made that up... I like it. Lol think I'll Re-post Pink this. :heehee:

Milli, I hope things are going smoother for you and your in-home P/T person meshes with your personality and has the Bonesmart mentality.

All the years I was working in theatre and scrubbing for hip replacements, I was the 'Hana table' and used to dislocate and reduce hips for the surgeons. I was quite good at it too. Red Shoe if your surgeon needed to do all that to dislocate your hip then he wasn't doing it right! It's a common failing amongst the current generation of surgeons! As for me, I was trained in this when I was in my twenties and could do it with a flick of my wrist (well almost!) If the hip was very irregular and not that easily done, then the surgeon would cut the neck first and then take the head out piecemeal. It should never be a battle. Just saying ......

Peaches Well today the knee is not so swollen, but the foot on that side is awful. You said you had that, too? Hoow long did it take to get better? Pt lady said she didn't think it was cause for concern, but I am scared about it. Should that start this late (8 days post op).

Thanks
Milli

Josephine My foot and leg on the operataed side are very swollen today. The cantaloupe knee is better, the the foot is very swollen. I think I maybe have been sitting too long at my computer.

It is normal for the foot and leg to swell like that, this far out (8 days). I am very scared about this.

I quit wearing thos TED hose because they cut into my leg under the knee.

HELP!

Peace and love to you.

Butterfly. :(. My knee was swollen originally, but has subsided, although I am still a little bruised. My leg does ache all the way down to my foot, but I have no swelling. I have been wearing my lovely...NOT...compression stockings for most of the day, as well as icing and elevating my leg. I think it has helped a lot with swelling.

Morning Butterfly.Like Ive said before Im no doctor but from my experience with 2 entirely differant hip surgery experiences Im thinking your swelling is probably normal, even at 8 days out.Maybe you shouldnt sit at the computer for so long.I had a difficult time with getting up and moving with my 2nd surgery because of the swelling and pain but once I did start moving almost over night the swelling went down and the pain started to decrease.I know what your going through,we all do,so I understand if the pain and swelling causes you concern but really the only remedy is movement.Immobility is our enemy.Just be patient Milli,8 days out from this surgery is a drop in the bucket.Yes I think we expect to much to soon.As far as Nov. 4th being to soon for your next procedure only your OS and you can know that.I know for me I wanted it done and over with already. No matter what. But thats your call.Once your 1st hip settles down and you actually start seeing and feeling the positive results Im confident you'll want to just be done with this chapter and get er done.
As far as these PT people didrespecting, dont take any of theyre guff. These people are nothing but glorified personal trainers. They think and act like theyre signifagant, did I spell that right, theyre not.Dont let them get you upset, theyre on your turf working for you.Theyre lucky you are even giving them work. They need to feel as if theyre important, theyre not,you are.Your doing so good Milli.Im really proud of you.To think that your going through this pain and doubt and hard work that Im going through is quite impressive to me.YOU ARE AWESOME.Dont forget that.Peace and Love.

Butterfly, the thing to keep in mind is that every body is different. That was one thing I had to keep reminding myself of in the early days. LOL, early days. I'm only 22 days out myself :)

What one person experiences is not what you or I may get in this journey. It's hard not to want to compare our results against others here at BS, but we simply cannot! Another thing I've learned here is that from the US to the UK to OZ, plus the different approaches (anterior, lateral and posterior) our experiences are all very different.

I also find myself checking folks ages :groan:The older we get the harder to recover from anything!

You are doing fine! Just like the PT mantra, "If it hurts, don't do it". If sitting at the computer too long is causing swelling etc... don't do it!

inthebeginning hit the nail right on the head Butterfly. We all recover at differant rates but we all recover.Patience is a virtue. You know the bonesmart mantra if it hurts dont do it well at first everything hurts so are we supposed to do nothing? The pain has to be recognised and dealt with but doing nothing in my opinion is out of the question.A little common sense goes a long way.Theres a differance between sitting at the computer pain,or in my case lying in bed for 3 days post surgery 2,and lets say heal drag exercise pain,or knee lift pexercise pain.I know its all pain but you can understand how if everything you do hurts then might as well grin and bear it.Really nothing we can do about it at this point,we chose this surgery now its time to pay the piper.I can assure you with utmost confidence that everything your going through is normal and on par with a proper recovery. Also like inthebeginning said you have to take your age into consideration.I think your doing phenominal to be honest.Remember that old commercial for some cold or flu product? The butcher is handing the lady a big submarine sandwich and he says " you gotta feed a cold lady " then a customer says " no you gotta starve a cold and feed a fever ".Well that about sums it up,your going to get all sorts of advice from everyones own personal experience and its up to you to find what works best for you.Personally I think you gotta feed a cold.Peace and love Milli.
P.S.In my trade as a roofer one of the things we say to someone who seems to not be a tough guy is " hey quit being a Milli " well I wont be saying that again and when someone else says it for the rest of my life I will think of you and remind them that as a matter of fact I know this tough broad named Milli who made it through hip replacement surgery and thrived.

That's great! Not a dry eye left in this thread!

When did you stop using the TEDs? If they were very tight, this could be reactive swelling which will settle down over time. However, spending too long at the computer without your legs being elevated is not good! Tut tut! But swelling at 8 days is also normal. Perfectly normal, so long as it's not a) confined to the calf and b) painful. Those are the key points to watch out for in regard to clots.

So I am giving you advice I give to regular office workers: frequently do ankle pumps, stretch and raise your feet and also take short walks every 15-20 minutes. (advice I would do well to take myself! :heehee:)

calikat Hi - I am feeling a little better today. Yesterday was just a bit glum for me for some reason. I am bored, of course -- I was pretty much confined to the house for a couple or three months before the surgery. I was using my computer as a means of entertainment, but now hear that I mustn't sit here for more than about 45 minute at a time lest my leg swells more. Did you have swelling in the leg and foot? Do you still have it? My surgery was 4 days after yours.

Thanks

Peace and love to you.

Josephine Thank you, as always! I quite wearing the TEDS a couple days ago. They really cut into my leg. The swelling is foot, ankle, calf, a little in the knee and thigh. Not much around the incision. The swelling does not hurt, nor it is red. Just fat. It has gone down a little since I have been elevating higher and more.

Are the TEDs critical to wear? Doesn't seem like a very good thing if they cut off circulation at knee. And I am unable to get them on or off by myself without violating restrictions.

Sorry I am such a worry wart. This is my first surgery ever and my surgeon's office pretty much blows you off when you all.

Josephine And I am also taking your advice and staying off the computer for too long at a sitting. So now, when I'm not on the computer or doing my exercises (simple ones, mostly in bed ones) or doing very simple ADLs, I am in my recliner with my lets elevated way up. By the way, I am on also on the blood thinner Xarelto, which is a pill.

Love,
Milli

I too wa on Xarelto for two weeks post op. The TED socks for the same. They were quite tight on me as well! Maybe no to the extent that you are experiencing but tight nonetheless. The blood thinner and socks were important to me as I had a heart attack 10 yeas ago and I guess am more prone to clots than normal? As soon. As I finished the Xarelto, I went back on my normal anti-clotting med, Plavix.
