Thanks @Drachenschwanz love it that you are experimenting with sleep positions. Yes I understand your wife's wish to get you back on your side... does she do the old elbow in the ribs jab? Its a girls proven technique for snoring partners:egypdance:

Sorry to read that you are not travelling well tonight cause you ran out of meds... darn (an Australian expressions which means.. in capitals - that's too bad!!). Hope you can get a fix asap tomorrow and get ahead of the curve again. Cheers - Maggie x

Maggie I am a side sleeper and just put a pillow between my knees....no problem....I put the pillow length wise so it almost comes down to my ankle ....could not sleep the first few nights until I tried it...

Vinny.

@Drachenschwanz ...mmmm I got censored... my Aussie expression got changed to "darn" I guess the word I used is not acceptable in the US (started with B)

Did you get your meds??? Back on track with pain mgt? I hope this is yes to both - cheers Maggie x

@Maggie94 That's funny, I got censored once here too. As my grandfather once said while playing cards, "If you don't go set once in while, you're not trying hard enough"

The answer to your questions are kinda and nope. We're getting by. Ice and elevation, and three hours at the Laundromat (washing machine died a couple days ago) are helping. I'm thinking its time to take another step down on meds. I haven't really gotten ANY recommendations from my OS on lowering dosage so I'm winging it. His office closed early yesterday and wasn't open today so I'll not get the script until Friday. That'll be four days without the short term Oxy. What's cool is I'm uncomfortable but not incapacitated.
Was trying to drop the slow release Oxy and just take the 'every four hour oxy' on time but it looks like I'll be able to just do the four hour on an 'as needed' basis. That and Tylenol should see me through. Add the kind and entertaining words of yourself and our other friends here and I'll be just dandy!

@Drachenschwanz I think its great if you can get off the meds and are coping with "uncomfortable". Hang in there - I'm sure that others on this forum have weaned off and have recs about how / what to change... search for it or ask a moderator.

as I said before your misfortune has given me a very valuable lesson in ensuring that you always have enough meds... just in case - like the boy scouts - be prepared:yes!:

which ever way you do it take care of you - you've come so far and done so well - cheers
Maggie x

What hv i walked into ....good luck tho

To me comando means blacking up and crawling around in spikey stuff oooooer

he he @Legin its all good clean info (and a few laughs) - do you hipsters have the same issues as us kneesies?

hi @aunt B - totally understand where you are coming from on the to-ing and fro-ing of yes - no to replacements. I'm the same - good days or an easy stair climb have me questioning do I really need it then night like last night with the horrid deep hot/cold pain says YES get ti done:yes!::yes!: (two little guys - one for each knee) - cheers
Maggie x

well a bit ore nesting today. Think I need a mental health check not new knees - 92F here and I am making soup - go figure. However soup is mega yummy - got second mug cooling. Hope I can restrain myself and leave some for the freezer:yes!::yes!:

I've also downloaded a meds ap called Medisafe which reminds you of when meds need to be taken YEY:spin: This was a tip I read about on this forum - just love it:roseshwr: so much great info (not to mention support).

Hope all out there are moving along "nesting" nicely

ok - the above comment was yesterday's - just forgot to hit the POST button:gaah:

Today is the first "back to work" day in Oz for most including my general doctor - so I had a visit with her (booked 2 weeks ago). Got the paperwork for all the tests - had chest xray straight after appt; fasting bloods tomorrow morning at her office; swabs for MRSA ; ECG next Monday before my review appt with her.

This is kind of making is really real. Faffing around with Betty (the recliner), entertainment & dinners for the freezer was like "playing house" (but still very necessary) - this is now the real deal.

@vinny Bill & Ben my Duro-Kold men, arrived today from the UK - I've got the gell packs in the freezer doing their thing. How long do they take to freeze? or do they stay a slushy sort of consistency? Perhaps I am not being patient - the first "P" on the 5 P's to recovery thread (see library) - ho hum - just me and wanting to know how everything is supposed to work.

My recovery family is growing - I have Betty the recliner, Bill and Ben, & Frank (Zappa) the TV remote - gotta look on the lite (slightly mad) side :happydance: Please everyone feel free to remind me I said this if I have a moan after 28th January.

I hope this finds you all well and preparing / recovering nicely - Maggie x

Chortles. Brilliant attitude

Legin THR Sep 14

thanks @Legin I hope I can maintain it.... guess this forum will be a big part of that.

You are a hip guy (:heehee:) how are you after your newie? I have not read any of the hip stuff.... perhaps I need to cross the road? - cheers Maggie x

depends on your freezer temp Maggie....mine are like concrete and I have to leave them out for a few minutes to soften up.......I know you are going to do great.......

Vinny

Hi @IdyGal Welcome. Well you are 1 week out and I am 3 (28 Jan). We have been chatting about the knee's remarkable ability to say "hey I'm good" as soon as surgery in on the horizon - ignore the knee ans go with what you know - it gives you pain and cramps your lifestyle sooooo out with the old and in with the new. This is my thread and my journey so far.... have a read:flwrysmile:

Hey @vinny agree about temp in freezer - overnight they got frozen so I guess my freezer is not as cold as yours. I have one in my gym downstairs for wine (hic) and nothing in its freezer so I will live that a shot and see if it is better. 14 stairs down and 14 stairs back up.... including walking past the recliner cycle and the wine cellar.... mmmmmm perhaps I should just move in down there:roseshwr:

@Legin thanks for your reply - sorry to hear about your nerve damage, I have loss of feeling behind my right knee and in my right ankle from a herniated disc 25 years ago eeeekkkkk seems like a year or 2. Keep going with the exaggerated sense of the ridiculous - I think we'd be quite loopy with out this outlet:dubious:

@TexasTee thanks for your note. Work is good distraction leading up to Kneed Day (KD). I'm off to do bloods now (fasting.... so hanging for breakfast) then have my dog walking gig - just love it.

@noc miss you in here:sad: Hope you are OK - post when you can - want to know how you are going

@Drachenschwanz the old bed sheet tangle - I'll watch for that. over here it is hot at night so I can probable go commando in the sheet department and just wear an old T.... great look (not). great to hear that you are doing so well and have your days full.

Take care all - hope you are all well, not anxious, seeing the sunny side and/or recovering well- Maggie x

Hi Maggie
Live about 3 hours down the south coast!!! BTKR 15th Jan, coming real quick now. Love your penguin.
Very nervous about up coming surgery & recovery, but oh so looking forward to 2 good knees. Hobbled around the zoo on Saturday - Phew what a hot day!! Figured may as well get some mileage out of the old knees. Have spent a lot of time icing since, but fun.:ice: Will keep a watch on how things go for you. Good luck & speedy recovery
Diane

You will be amazed at how good your knees will feel when you are on the road to recovery.....I was in agony walking and could only go short distances and felt every agonizing step ...I also hobbled side to side with a severe limp....very depressing.....I now 7 weeks later I was walking in town today and suddenly realized I walked for 15 minutes without realizing it....I have a whole new lease on life and you will too......

Think I need a mental health check not new knees - 92F here and I am making soup - go figure.
The soup would do just fine here---11* with a windchill at -12*.
You will be amazed at how good your knees will feel when you are on the road to recovery
After you are fully recovered, you will be able to forget all about them---the irony is, we crave normalcy with our knees. Right now, everything is focused on them---pain, meds, icing, elevating, etc---but once you are all done with recovery, you forget about them, as they are now "normal" and functional.

@Sudibar
Hi Diane WOW so close:cheers: Where on the Sth Coast? - I have a brother at Mourya and spent a ton of time on that coast as I grew up and lived in Canberra till I was 33 so I know it quite well. Beautiful area. Which hospital are you going to? I going to RPA (my local only about 2 kms away) then the Petersham Rehab hospital which is about 2 km in the other direction so all right on the doorstep.

I can understand about being nervous... I'm not (yet)... I'm still more excited than anything - can't wait to be in recovery and progressing towards a mobile lifestyle. But you are only 1 week out - I am 3 so there is plenty of time for the nerves to kick in.

Only advice I can offer is read the other threads by doubles and gain some insight from them. You have company so you are not alone in this - the global family on the forum is great. You will be fine:yes!::flwrysmile:

Keep posting - cheers, Maggie x
