hi @TexasTee and @kaw205 Too funny that you mention nesting Karen - that's exactly what I feel like I am doing - tidying the house, major clear out, cooking for the freezer etc. I like the idea of soup and admit that it didn't occur to me as it is the middle of the hot Australian summer here - but YES very easy and nutritious meal - will make up a batch:yes!:.

The other things I have done on the "nesting" front are to get an electric recliner chair - being delivered today. This is not the sort of thing I would normally have so I have had to rearrange my living area to accommodate her. Yes its a girl Like @noc I've given her a name - Betty. Betty is the 84 year old lady I bought her from over ebay. We have quite a few chats and have become phone buddies:wave:so I figured that it was a good name for her.

I have also ordered the Durasoft Kold knee gel pacs that @vinny used for his icing sessions. Other preparations are a couple of nighties (don't know what you call them in the US long tee shirt to wear to bed) - I figure these will be easy to slip on over my head rather than PJs. New undies - yes all girls do this for any major occasion - :heehee:. My bed is chocked up by about 4 inches so preps are well underway.

Like you @TexasTee the day is getting closer - 4 weeks tomorrow my time. But I would kind of like to have it NOW... I'm committed and want to go to the post op phase - patience (not good at this one:gaah:)

Ok enough for now - everyone stay well - keep on posting - cheers - Maggie x

LOL like you, I also got an electric recliner and its not something I've had before so trying to make it fit in my decor....it's leather like my sectional (English Mastiff slobber defense system) but where the sectional is cool this is a bit, ahhh clunky. Guess I'll have to name it but I'm sure it's a boy :)

I'm going with comfy yoga shorts/pants and those tank tops with built in bras for hospital and around the house but good call on the new undies...hadn't even considered it but now I need some of those, too :-) I also still need a pair of shoes that are a size too big and easy to get on/off. Those Sketcher sock shoes look doable but want to try them in person. I already have a IceMan constant cold machine so I'm good there. Another thing on the list is to stock up on "beach reads" easy fiction for the easily befuddled!

Med check and CT scan tomorrow then its just a 4 week wait!

thanks @TexasTee the bra tank tops are a great idea - will investigate. I got bright fluro undies - all different - pink orange green purple you name it - got to get a bit of colour happening. Have a mega stock of beach reads + lots of movies and TV series - all accessible at the flick of a switch - gotta love remotes:loveshwr:. I have a Kobo e-reader that is well and truly loaded up. I also have been putting aside toiletries... panty liners, moisturizer, lip balm,deodorant, tooth brush & paste. I've got the shoes - Keen Mary Janes - comfortable and easy to slip on - only thing is the buckle strap across the arch...mmmm these may be more rehab when I can reach my feet. The sock/shoe things look like an idea - only issue is reaching feet if they have soft backs. Guess we just need to hit the shops:flabber:

gotta go Betty is here!!!!!

@Maggie94 , @TexasTee,
Well, I'm going to MacGyver my existing recliner by raising it a little higher with wooden blocks.
I just subscribed to Netflix and I'm saving all my magazines to read during recovery.
I have a pair of Birkis which are bright yellow with flowers painted on them.
And new undies, oh yes, just like mom always said.....lol
best regards,
Karen

Has to be a guy and girl thing...in all my preparation I never thought of new underwear!! Raised toilet seat? Check? Comfy recliner? Check..ebooks?check. Chapstick at the ready? Check. Even one of things that helps you put socks on but never used it....check...ended up Commando...I should have remembered what my Mom told me but thought that only applied if you got hit by a bus....:chuckmarch:

Vinny

@TexasTee ho hum the hurdles we have to jump (we wish) to actually get into the operating suite... I have a Dr appt on Monday with a barrage of tests to arrange as long as your arm - bloods, MRSA swabs, chest Xray, ECG etc etc... it will take the whole of next week to get them all done (not really but hey gotta make it a bit dramatic:yahoo:)

@vinny Ok so you went commando - was wondering last night about you and undies or PJ bottoms with a bilateral... wonder if its called commando when girles go without???? something to ponder - LOL

Preparations continuing - my new Kobo Glo arrived today - figured if I was in a shared room I could read without disturbing anyone + it is a new toy:giggle: - I have to charge & load it up today. I am also putting movies & TV series on my Nexus tablet today. Actually its a good one for this type of thing cause it is very grey today - methinks a thunderstorm is brewing.

@Holly don't drink all the wine at once and check re wine & meds.... mmmm could be good - just joking - I'm way to conservative to take a risk like that:flabber:

Take care all - my countdown it down to 4 weeks from today.... time flies - Maggie x

I was commando at the hospital except for about twenty minutes before they released me onto the general public. I've got a grabber that has a hook on the end that kinda helped with putting socks on. Pretty much just dropped my shorts or sweats on the floor and stepped into 'em and hoped for the best. They only ended up backward or inside out a few times... with the amount of effort it took to get that far, they usually just stayed that way.

Best of luck Maggie, the next four weeks will fly in for you and new knees await. Holly :dancy:

@Drachenschwanz I will be in hospital for about 7 days then rehab hospital for about 3 weeks (that was my guestimate and the OS said that it was about right). I think I will have to work out how to achieve some level decency before I go from hospital to rehab + I have to fully enjoy my new fluro numbers. Go the grabbers n hook devices. I'm up for the challenge.

Maggie by the end of your second week in rehab hospital you will be wearing your normal clothing I would wager
:dancy:
:loll:

@Threads
Hi Sandra - just congratulations on getting onto the recumbent cycle and turning the pedals:yay:. I also have one down stairs (14 of these) and even now (4 weeks out from BTKR) I have trouble sometimes lifting my left leg over the middle section - once that's achieved I am OK to cycle even with some resistance (3 out of 8). I was wondering about how to get on it post op... I guess like you it is a matter of slowly does it.

Re sleeping - my view is don't fight it. Your body is repairing and that takes a mass of energy. If you need a nap (or 2 or 3) take it. No one has a stop watch on you for when you are supposed to do things. Please head what your body is telling you. On sleeping.... are you in a bed or recliner? If a bed are you sleeping on your back or side? I am a side sleeper and am wondering how people with "the double" manage (@vinny do you have any commnet on this?)

Happy New Year to all - may 2015 be kind to your knees - Maggie x

The next four weeks will fly by @Maggie94 and recovery here you come...

Happy New Year Maggie x

thanks @Poppet down to 3 weeks 6 days - LOL

Hope 2015 is everything you want it to be - Maggie x

@Maggie94

Hi Maggie,

Actually, I've been afraid to approach the bike. I was in a rehab hospital for 4 weeks after leaving the general hospital, and they didn't have that kind of equipment. There I concentrated on bending, balance, strength and mobility. We have 3 stories - 14 stairs either way. I remembered after I posted about getting on the bike, that I hadn't been able to do that in the period leading up to my surgery. Prior to surgery my right leg was my bad one - now it's my left. Our bike has a somewhat high middle so I was pleased that I was able to lift my leg up over it. Your PT after surgery will be able to guide you and, you'll know when you are ready. I'm thrilled I'm ready to get back in the water because I find that to be a wonderful way to tone the muscles, as well. You'll have to wait until you are healed for that one.

Re sleeping - prior to surgery I was a side sleeper. I don't have a recliner so I sleep in a bed. After surgery I became a back sleeper and still am. I do try my sides occasionally buy the nerve thing I have going on on my left thigh doesn't make it comfortable. Having said that, I can see that I will probably be back to my old sleeping ways in the not too far distant future, as my nerve issue heals itself.

You are right about the amount of sleep! I'm sleeping longer and better at night and actually sleeping less during the day. I can't believe that some nights I sleep 10 - 11 hours, but that's what my body seems to want right now - so be it!

I just came back in from a nice walk down by the river watching tug boats, ducks and the setting sun on log booms. We're heading into New Year's Eve here and it's already 2015 for you. The next 4 weeks will fly by, if you have any more questions, just ask.

@Threads Thanks Sandra - its the silly things that you wonder about... or at least I do. Ok so I need to morph to a back sleeper - not too big an ask.

The walk you had sounds lovely. I am about a mile from Blackwattle Bay here in Sydney - it is on the harbor and you can see the famous Sydney Harbor Bridge from there - this was the focus for NYE celebrations last night - I am an early to bed gal so I didn't see it (have done so many times in the past) but BOY did I hear it. Definitely the biggest fireworks bash ever if the sound was anything to by (1.25 miles from the Bridge). Lovely hot summer day here in Sydney today - do you have snow where you are?

I wish you all the very best for 2015 and yes I will ask my questions as they come to mind. Take care - Maggie x

We don't often have snow, and if we do, it doesn't stay long. Vancouver is in a coastal rain forest surrounded by mountains. We have rain! However, there is snow visible from the city and skiers and snow lovers can get up to the snow easily. We hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, and the closest venues needing snow near the city had to import snow and manufacture it - it was a warm winter. However, Whistler is not far away and is a huge ski resort and hosted a lot of the major snow based events during the Olympics! You can have the best of both worlds here - without having to shovel it!!

My sister-in-law is in the Sydney area almost every year, lecturing. She loves it - you live in a beautiful city.

Hi Maggie,
I'm usually a side sleeper too. If my wife gets her way, I will be again, as soon as possible. Apparently there's a snoring problem. I told her her snoring wasn't all that bad, and I could easily sleep through it. She was not amused.
Sooo, I've been experimenting with the pillow between the knees. At four weeks out, thirty to forty five minutes is about all I can sleep on my left before an ache sets in. There's a 90" body pillow on its way. Hopefully it'll help ensure the support is even all the way down and both of us can get some sleep!
