I am lucky in that I have always had a reputation as a terrible housekeeper, so no one really expects too much from me. But really, you should have told her that if it bothered her, there was a vacuum and a mop in the closet.

Really though, I feel sorry for folks like that---they must be pretty unhappy to spew out stuff like that. Try to feel sorry for her---she must be jealous of you Marrianne. You are beautiful and accomplished----I bet she feels very inferior to you and makes snide comments to try to bring you down to her level. Poor thing. Maybe what you should say is, "I like you, so I am going to forgive you for that hurtful comment." Call a spade a spade instead of letting her run amok. But, she is jealous of you---what a sad person. k

Wow Brownie, I just caught up with your thread. What a time you have had.

I'm sorry your OS and his staff are so non responsive. It sounds like they need a lesson or two in customer service, since you are their customer and without you, they have no business. I would send a nice long letter to him and staff after you change docs to respectfully outline your concerns. If they are really in the people business, they will take to heart your comments and make an effort to improve.

I have been lucky. I have had the same OS and pa for the last 10 years. They are just great and they really sincerely care. After my revision, for the 2 week checkup, the knee was so nice and straight, my big issue, the OS was so excited he almost knocked me over to give me a huge hug! I just saw him last week and same thing again. He told me I was part of the family and as such, will always treat my issues as best he can and celebrate the victories right along with me. I could not ask for a better guy! I wish everyone was as lucky to have such an OS!

On the subject of posting your challenges and tough days/feelings, this is the place to get it out. We have all been here and done that. It's very important to be able to look back over time and see that sprinkled in will be some better days, and once you get the other knee under control, I hope it starts to come together. In the meantime, keep the faith and I know that your friends are only a few clicks away.

Be well Brownie, it can only get better from here!

Marianne, I'm so glad you're consulting a new doctor--your OS sounds like a nightmare and you deserve so much better. Good luck with your appointment next week!

Marianne, I agree with Kelly, your SIL is a sad piece of work and one to be ignored! Heck house cleaning was not even on the rector scale for the first 3 months for me and even then it wasn't my priority.

I am so glad you have made the decision to fire you current OS and seek better care, you are worth it! You want and need an OS that will take you and your medical needs seriously, that's their job and they get paid darn well for it! Yay you!

Stay well my friend! :friends:

Thank you all for your support! And Bottom for my new thread title.

Well I went to PT today and asked them about my Rx. Well it turns out PT clerk called my OS office and they said the doctor was on vacation. So maybe his assistant Wilbur was off as well. But then why not call PT when all those faxes kept coming and let them know. Also on emails what about setting up the Out of Office message. Lordy. I am just sick of it. I don't know how often you have to go back to these guys. When I go next Thursday that is my 8 week appointment which the office had set up in advance.

No further appts set up so I wonder if that's the end of it unless I have a problem. I am not sure if I should go ahead and ask for some treatment and MRI for my left knee or if I should just wait until I see my new guy on Jan. 10th and let new guy do the complete work up.

PT is getting harder now. Started on one legged knee bends but was pretty hard so she modified them for me. My PT always does that, doesn't let me do things where I'd have bad form. Still fall into walking letting TKR foot kind of plop down so have to remind myself about heel toe and watch my form. Practising steps at PT and home. Trying to get quads stronger. My flexion stays at 130 without effort and extension is 0 so I'm good that way.

Tonight my daughter and I had a cooking lesson for my Dad's 95 bday gift. A chef came to his house and gave him a lesson teaching him some fancy knife skills, anyway it was really neat. Good gift for him so we were really pleased.

My knees were sore when stood too much so kept sitting down. But really feel like my tkr knee is healing well.

I sure wonder if those patients who have had the minimally invasive procedure have a lot quicker recovery and less pain that us who had the old techniques so if anyone has any input I'd be interested to hear about it. I know it is supposed to be better but we don't indicate which we had in our signature so hard to know.

Last night my Sophie, yorkie, ate 2 $5 dollar bills. My copay is 15 so I keep giving a 20, getting 5 change and sticking it in a pocket of my purse. I looked all over for all the pieces but apparently she actually ate over 50% of both. So annoying! So I'm telling this story at PT and another patient has desert tortoise that snuck in her house and ate the nice green leafy money out of her husbands wallet. The stories continued. Was pretty silly!

Thank you all for supporting me with my physician change!!! xoxoxxoxo

Wow Marianne your flexion is brilliant. 130!!! I have no idea what mine is as I havent seen the physio for weeks. Last time I went it was 90 so who knows. Its really weird how physio differs here from the US. You are doing so much more than me and we had our ops 3 days apart. I don't go back till the 20th Dec so I am just hoping I will see an improvement.

I am so with you on your frustration with the physician change and I hope you have a good outcome on the 10th Jan. My right knee the unop one is behaving at the moment and I'm glad I'm not having problems with that while trying to recover from TKR on the left one. My OS was trying to persuade me to have my right one done asap and I don't understand why you're old physician is not listening to your complaints about your unop knee. It's just not fair.

As for the lack in communication that would drive me NUTS. Im not a very patient patient. I hope you don't get too much discomfort over Christmas. I'm going to have a very relaxing weekend apart from putting the indoor trees up and I hope you do too my friend. Keep your money away from Sophie too. That made me giggle:puppysmooze:.

My 3yr old grandgirl Emily was caught in the spare bedroom last night unwrapping all her presents. Xmas ones and birthday ones as she is 4 on Thursday. My son said she looked sad at being told off but also very excited at all the presents bless her. Take care:flwrysmile:

Aaah Marianne, so pleased you are seeing a new OS in January - so not long now. Your present one is just unbelievable and at the risk of repeating myself, why in hell did he join that profession?? He obviously doesn't care about people. Isn't that what it's all about?!

Sorry, I did chuckle when I read about Sophie eating the money. We also have a Yorkie and her name is Sasha. She is nine years old and still loves to play. She loves you to chase her round the room and I think she must run at 100 miles per hour :heehee:

Your Dad's birthday present was a lovely idea. I would love that myself.

Btw, your flexion is just so, well, excellent. I am totally envious and you even have a perfect extension. Well done you

Marianne, wow, your flexion and extension are so good, no great, I am so very jealous...but in a nice way...LOL You have something to boast about, you can take Sophie out for a walk and have her potty (I didn't know what word I can say here that wouldn't get bleeped) on the neighbors lawn and if they complain you could say that my Sophie's potty is worth more then other dog's potty...

Marianne, you asked my in Jacky's post (I didn't want to high jack her post) what kind of music I listen to while sleeping and I have a bunch of different stuff and put it on shuffle. New country, and oldies mostly. But didn't have to have my soft headset on last night. I think we figured out his snoring, he stopped taking pain pills at night from his surgery and now the snoring is almost gone, just once in awhile and I can live with that.

Marianne, That OS of yours sounds like a real piece of work! Glad you are getting a new one in January. I'm sorry your other knee is acting up so much. It is never easy is it? You fix one thing and something else goes. But your flexion and extension are great and it seems like you are doing lots of things!

Marianne, You asked about the new minimally invasive techniques. I know a little about them as my surgeon does them and we discussed. I think if you have a PKR and they do the robotic surgery like the Mako Surgical Suite that my OS is trained on then the recovery is like night and day compared to TKR or PKR that is non robotic. I know two people who had robotic surgery and they were up and around in a week, pretty much doing what their normal life. ONe was a woman in her mid 70s the other in her 60s and she had her first knee done as a TKR and she said it was like night and day with the robotic surgery. But there are not that many surgeons who do that yet and the hospital has to have purchased the equipment. My OS told me I had too much arthritis. If you have arthritis in 3 places in the knee they won't do it. My weight also excluded me as those replacements don't last as long and my weight would have made it even worse. But it is a fascinating surgical techniques and one of the other surgeons in the office just did a robotic spine surgery as he was on the Today show a couple of weeks ago. Very cool stuff!

I think if you have a PKR and they do the robotic surgery like the Mako Surgical Suite
Not really. The number of robotic type procedures that are done compared to the 'normal' are minimal.

I suspect that will change as time goes on. Personally. I think these techniques are the wave of the future!

Thanks everyone! Debbie so glad the snoring is gone! That was sure an easy fix...but it would have been so fun to see pics of him wearing one of those contraptions.:heehee:
Lisa and Josephine that's interesting about these other surgeries that are done. It's too bad that those of us who have the maximum invasion technique get compared to those who've had these rinky dink procedures! Some of the things people say is amazing!
So I'm going for my 8 week check up tomorrow. I have my list of questions for him. He gives very short answers. Not all that helpful but I am going to try to get what I can from him. I am torn about what to do right now about my left knee. But I am going to go ahead and bring it up that it's miserable. He said it would get better but that hasn't happened yet. It will be interesting. Kind of late for me to ask you all but if you have any ideas about tomorrow, what to ask, suggest etc. let me know! appt is at 10am. Yippee!

Oh my PT has me doing more tricky things. Getting harder! Still 130 but easier to get there. I know I could push it more but I feel like I am "pained" out! Shopping again today and really wore out both knees.
One thing I wanted to mention was that I was really sore this am before PT and Erin had me get on the treadmill, did 14 min at 2.2 and felt better after I was on there awhile. I guess it's the endorphins. The last minute I slowed down to 1. which is where I was at the very beginning post op and couldn't believe that at the time that was so hard for me! Just when I am really wanting to complain, I look back at how it was right after the surgery! Anyone look back like that in shock at where you started???

Marianne, that is so great that you spent 14 minutes on the treadmill! You go girl! I was on the treadmill yesterday at about 2 MPH but then had to go slower when I was not holding on and my trainer said that it is very hard to walk for any length of time at under 2 MPH and I am noticing that now that my gait is normalizing that he is right! But my knee felt better after my walk, even though it was just 6 minutes. She likes to walk! Just wish my right hip did. :xmaskitty:

Hi Brownie,

I go back and read my thread occasionally to remind myself where I was and how I felt at certain times. It also helps me provide insight to others here wo are going through MUA, etc. I always suggest journaling your experience as the perspective you gain later is quite valuable.

Good luck today. Don't let your OS leave until you have the info you need. Remember you are his customer, and without you he has no business....

Be well,

Dawn

Marianne and Gail, you go girls, walking on the treadmill like that. I find it very difficult to walk on those without hanging on. My poor 88 year old MIL, Dave took her to the airport the other day and she had to get on those moving sidewalks and she got so afraid, wouldn't go on at first then when she did, she got scared she would fall when she got to the end. But she did it. Oh besides Dave not snoring, he went to the dr. yesterday and his blood pressure was NORMAL....it was so high for so long, now finally back down with medicine, but it took awhile to get it down.
