THR Brooksy’s Hip Recovery

The constipation has been so awful I’m hoping that’ll resolve too if I’m not taking them.
So sorry, I am sure this is miserable for you.
Following is a article on Constipation from the BoneSmart Library, in case you haven't read it -
https://bonesmart.org/forum/threads/constipation-and-stool-softeners.4899/

Pumpkin Purée has been suggested as a cure for Constipation.
With Pumpkin Puree' being the ONLY ingredient in the can.
Cinnamon can be sprinkled on top. You may want to give it a try.

Ooh thank you for the information. I’m hoping stopping the Dihydrocodeine will help too
I’m just going to take paracetamol and use ice.
I think I’ve had more problems from sickness and constipation than from the op itself

I agree with @Tuppence71. I do think I took the tylenol (paracetamol) about 4 times a day regularly at the stage you are at and then the pain says away.

I haven’t taken any paracetamol since yesterday lunchtime. I wouldn’t normally take painkillers for pain of this level so I’ll see how it goes.

I’ve got some herbal pain patches from the acupuncture guy I used to see. That and ice will hopefully be enough.

Feels stiffer than usual.

The physio I saw before my op called me today which was lovely. I only found him a few weeks before my op but I think he made a huge difference to my recovery.
With seeing him and my chiropractor I’m sure it helped my leg length after the op and kept my muscles etc where they should be. Without them I’d have been limping for 3 years and my muscles would have definitely shortened as every time I saw the chiropractor he had to readjust my leg length.

Day 15

I saw the hospital physio today for the first time since I came home. I was absolutely dreading it but she was lovely.
She said I’m balanced and showed me an easier way to walk with the crutches. I can go for five minute walks and when I’m ready in the house try with one crutch.
There are a few gentle exercises to do but she said if anything hurts to stop. Other than that I’ve not to exercise for six weeks apart from walking and I have to use an aid like a crutch or walking stick for the full six weeks.
She said she’s got patients who are out playing golf after 4 weeks - but they’re not walking properly. At six weeks the surgeon wants me to be able to walk properly then take exercise from that point on.
There’s no restrictions as such with the incision
I’ve had but she said some things like sitting in a low seat will be uncomfortable. I’m being over cautious anyway.
Seeing her again in two weeks and she’s going to try and get me to balance on one leg and also aim to raise my knee ninety degrees by six weeks.
Everything she said supported what I’ve read on here.
The worst thing was the 40 minute drive there. I’ve never noticed bumps in the road but every single one ran through me like a knife. I’ve been quite uncomfortable since but I’m still not taking the dreaded painkillers.

Great update! Thanks for taking the time to share. Your physio does sound lovely. Easy going, no pressure. That's the type you want. I can imagine how the 40 minute ride was uncomfortable. Car rides of that length felt unbearable to me for the first few months. Too confining. Hopefully the discomfort it caused eases with a good nights sleep. Have a wonderful Wednesday! :)
@Brookeer

Thanks. I’m fine today thankyou. Very tired but I’m not bothered about that. I won’t be getting in a car again anytime soon

I took my dressing off a couple of days ago during the day but back on for bedtime.
Last night it was so sore I couldn’t bear the bedclothes on it.
I’m really achy today. Probably the worst it’s been but other than a couple of bad nights sleep I haven’t done anything different.
I’m three weeks post op tomorrow so I wasn’t expecting that. I’ve gone back to my walker today as I couldn’t face the crutches.
Has anyone else had that? I thought it would just continue to get better.

Hello Brookeer, sorry you're having a bit of a 'blip'. I can't help I'm afraid as I have all this to come.
Perhaps you have been overdoing it a bit and your body is telling you just to rest a bit more.
Tomorrow is another day and hopefully you will have a better nights sleep and your aches and pains will have subsided..
Sending you best wishes and gentle hugs..

I did have a few days that were harder about that time. But only lasted a day or 2 I just took it really easy.. backto walkerand more pain meds for a cou0le of days...

Hiya Brookeer, yes I have had the same experience as you. Getting better, getting better, oops, ouch, walker, canes, meds, ice, elevation, getting better, getting better, getting better, oops, ouch....no rhyme nor reason for it to start hurting again other than we are recovering from major surgery, and it will take a bit of time, for all the bits and bobs they moved about to fall back into place and accept the new bionic bits.

Thanks for your reassuring reply. I couldn’t understand why it was happening so it’s nice to hear you were the same. It’s not as bad today thank goodness.
I got out of bed and forgot about getting my crutches. Got to the end of the bed and realised what I’d done. I must have walked at least three steps unaided.
Once I’d realised what I’d done I then had to work out how to get to the crutches because my walker doesn’t fit down the side of the bed.

Brookeer,
It's an up and down recovery for sure and you begin to wonder at times what's going on.
But it's all part of the process and no two people recover exactly the same.
What I've learned is to listen to the clues your body gives you. Sore, then ice and relax. Feel great, ok, let's take a little longer walk. Next day if you overdo "the hip" will definitely let you know.
You are so early in your recovery, patience is key.
I wish you well.

Such good advice - thank you

My recovery has been like a yo-yo — good day, good day, terrible day, meh day, good day, etc. it’s the nature of the beast. Look forward to those pain free walks awaiting you down the road,
Yes it’s strange isn’t it? I’m the same

Messy in the Middle is better than Hard at First. I'd say you're doing well at only 21 days post op.
Well enough to wish you a Happy Three Week Anniversary! Cheers!

Brighter days are on the way as you trek toward Amazing at the End.:walking:Have a great week!
