TKR Blondie 58's recovery thread

Hi guys, long time no see!! :)

Well, I had my second RTKR a week ago Monday (15th Feb) & was in hospital for 4 days, having worked very hard myself (with the aid of a CPAP machine this time) to produce a flexion of 75 & a leg extension of approx 5-10 upon discharge. As with the first knee, am in a lot of pain, but my left knee is now so strong it really made a diference after the 2nd surgery, &, hopefully, my recovery this time as I could shuffle up the bed etc; with the 'good knee'!! :fingersx:

I'm currently tired, wiped out & exhausted, same as last time, but my progress at this stage is far better than it was after having the first one done, hopefully it will continue!! :alarm:

How IS everyone?

Blondie, I am so glad that the second surgery went well. Rest is what you need right now--don't let anyone press on that knee in a misguided attempt to increase the rom. The rom will increase when the swelling begins to go down. I will give you the reading list again since it has been a while. There might be something that works better for you the second time around. First are the BoneSmart Recovery Philosophy. . .

- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds according to your prescription, don't wait for pain to occur, don't overwork.
- If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
- If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it.
- Take note of the BoneSmart view on exercise and how exercise may affect pain and swelling.
- If you won't die if it's not done, don't do it; if you must do it, short and sweet, not hours on your feet.
- Don't stand if you can sit; don't sit if you can lie down, don't stay awake when you can go to sleep
