THR Bickypeg's new hip

Think I'll abandon the calf stretches for now @Fit4Family. Makes calves and knees sore! It hurt a lot when I was doing them where the other stretches were fine.
Quite pleased I was sore this morning when we went to look at the house - might have ignored the slippery cobbles, the narrow steep stairs, the garden up even more steps , the unreliable bus service and just concentrated on the beams, the mullion windows and the amazing views...

Ahhh just as well those pains kicked in @bickypeg
As we get older there are different ‘needs’ from a house move...Your current house sounds delightful ... only not when these awful bones start playing up.

Having been an Estate Agent all my working life it was easy when we moved 16 years ago... not too many pains then but I insisted on a downstairs bedroom & shower room. so glad I did... it’s proved invaluable..

Hoping your pains ease off...

I had an "okay" night last night, and I'll take it, compared to what sounds like a much more difficult one for you, poor @bickypeg I do have a pillow under my legs from the knees down to my ankles (one of those big, king size pillows). It seems more comfortable than just flat on my back although, ouf, sometimes my lower back is aching in the morning. I, too, didn't do much yesterday but I was so tired that I also retired around 9:30 PM and fell asleep pretty easily. And I also have the toilet riser still in place in our upstairs bathroom. It's an old toilet and although I can manage, it's really nice when one is staggering to the bathroom for that 2:00 pee break!

Sounds like a nice afternoon ahead if you've got your son coming over for lunch. And I think ordering out fish and chips is an excellent idea! Why cook when you're not feeling like it? For me that would probably be 90% of the time so I do have to force myself to cook, but every once and awhile I do give myself permission for a meal out or ordered in. And house hunting, "just to look" is a good idea. Unless you've got kids crashing at your house frequently, a 5 bedroom (!!) house does sound a bit of overkill for just the two of you. But if your husband really likes your house, I agree it will be difficult to dislodge him. But just looking is a start. Good luck!

I'm sorry you're feeling achy @bickypeg its no fun and can make this Recovery biz feel like a never ending journey. I think you're having these ups and downs when you're over active because you're still not completely healed. Definitely the case with Righty as it's only been six months, and a little over a year for your first. It most likely doesn't take much to land you in the ODIC. I hope with lots of rest and icing your discomfort will ease and sleep improve.

I don't blame you for wanting to downsize. We did a few years ago and while it's been great for the most part, it was difficult to get used to. When it ends up being just the two of you, with kids gone, what's the point in trying to keep up a big drafty castle? :heehee: Getting hubs out to look at homes is a great start, as you mentioned. Sad thing is usually once you get people who've been dragging their heels to finally consider something, and if you were to move, he'll most likely love it and wonder why you didn't do it years ago! Then you'll want to clobber him over the head. :gaah:

I hope you had a good visit with your eldest and enjoyed the lunch of fish and chips.
Have fun on Monday babysitting lil' bit. I know you will.
Hugs

Hello! Well, darn, sorry you are that achey and sore. You mentioned whether to continue some of the exercises.. I'm wondering how many repetitions did you do? Sometimes, when starting a new exercise I only do like 3-5 reps until I see how I'm going to react to them and stay at low reps until my muscles kick in. It's just a suggestion, especially since you've already started them and laid down some soreness.. maybe your muscles will respond and you'll be glad.
I loved your positive view though, it helped you to be more careful when looking at real estate!
Canes unite @bickypeg ! Where would we be without them!! :old:

You basically described my husband, I love our home but it's a real bear to take care of and don't get me started on the three fights of stairs with the laundry in the basement!:groan:

I have a dream, most of you wouldn't like it, but I would LOVE to get a nice RV and live in it for a few years and ramble around the country. Downsize and simplify things for a while.
If I ever get to do that Ill need help in changing my name on here to RamblinRose! :driver::realing::swim:

Feel better and brighter this morning mainly because knees feel better. Think I'll forget the calf stretches for now although I didn't overdo it @CricketHip never a danger for me with exercise! But the others seem easy enough and the ball rolling feels good and trying it on my other glute. I did absolutely nothing yesterday and it's pouring today so more resting.
The house was full when we moved in 11years ago @Barbaraj with the boys, assorted girlfriends and pals. Used to have to count shoes in the kitchen some mornings to see who was staying! Good times...And no. 3 son and girlfriend only moved out last summer, whilst touring actor son always had it as a base for him and other thesps until this spring. Don't know what it's like in the US but it's really hard for young people to buy a house now and rents are extortionate.
But it's been nice to have a big house to recuperate in, with a flat garden. I've been able to put in some miles...but a nice bungalow with lots of spare rooms for visitors would be lovely...

Hi there, @bickypeg Hope things are going well today--so nice to read that you were feeling "better and brighter" yesterday--woo, hoo! I am certainly no expert on exercising during hip recovery, but my personal philosophy is that you've got to try different things to find what works. You, of course, have to make an honest attempt to try things but if they don't work out then throw 'em to the curb and try something else. This whole recovery process, I'm convinced, is one of trial and error. Eventually, I believe, we're all going to be fully healed no matter how long and tedious the process. But giving different things--exercise, icing, rest, positive thinking, whatever--is important and to be encouraged. You're doing great, and you WILL get there, have faith.

And, yes, buying a home is ridiculously expensive these days, particularly in my neck of the woods, and rents are not cheap. My older daughter, with help from her dad and a very thrifty lifestyle, was able to purchase a house. She and her husband both work and money is always tight for them. The other three kids, all unmarried, are in no position to own a home anytime soon. It is sad. We, too, have a large four bedroom, three bath house which is much too big for us. But, as we always say to ourselves, "it's paid for" and at the moment, we are not thinking of a move. On the other hand, I have no interest in having any of 'em return to live with us. You are a much nicer mama than I am to allow children to float back in periodically. Love all my children but love empty nesting even more.

:bored: We'll wait, patient lot that we are :heehee:

Hope you have a good one @bickypeg
Have fun snuggling with the littlest little tomorrow...I know you will.

Thank you @Layla! Have really missed her since the holiday! Have done lots of resting today to get my strength up. She's had a busy weekend it seems so she'll be ready for lots of stories I hope! Dreading the car but I'll take a pillow and hope it's a nice non-zooming journey...:scare:

Hello @bickypeg

So happy to see you are feeling a bit brighter. Thank you for note on calf exercise. It is tricky to figure out exactly what our bodies need. Can’t remember Mojos exact phrasing, but something like deciding if something needs gentle nudges or babysitting. Our hips are like a fine wine and need just the right touches to reach perfection.

Exciting to be considering your next home. We dream about it all the time. Hope you find something perfect for your stage in life.

Fiddle de dee. I've tried everything to get the videos uploaded but even my more savvy kids couldn't suggest anything. I shortened both but still no go. A couple of screenshots was all I could manage. They are VERY gentle movements with hardly any pressure.... Sorry no good. Still too large.
I'll look online and see if I can find similar. So annoyed as I am (shhh) feeling much more comfortable and it would be nice to pass hints on.
Had a cracking and very busy day with the little one @Layla ! By 9.30 I'd read 5 books, done a jigsaw, put pirates and Yoda in a boat for a long adventure, played in the sand, played hide and seek with the pirates and a princess, and sung and signed with Mr Tumble! But no bending and feet up as much as possible. And a short walk using cane. But we watched a bit of TV later @Barbaraj ! Was fun.

Oh my, what a cutie! :roseshwr: Glad to hear she loves books and puzzles. Grandaugther in town wouldn't sit still for book reading. I truly loved reading to my kids at bedtime. Glad to hear you're doing well, keep it up grandma!

Oh, sounds like a busy but fun day with your little, @bickypeg Glad to see you weren't bending or contorting, and you kept your feet up as much as you were able. Isn't it fun and a lovely distraction to play with your wee one? It is still hard to play with mine right now, but I'm hoping in a few weeks I'll be feeling a bit more active so I can really enjoy them. We're babysitting them for a few days on end towards the end of this month (daycare is closed) and I'd love to have some outings where I'm not just plopped on a bench somewhere. Have a great day!

Such a sweetheart she is @bickypeg Of course you are too! :loveshwr:
I'll bet she loved snuggling with you in that warm sunny spot as you read her favorite stories.
Those times are precious as we all know how fleeting they are. Memories to cherish for sure.
Hopefully more coming your way soon. Big Hugs!

Super day yesterday - felt pretty good, with few painkillers, and not bad the previous day. Very quiet because of the awful weather and was rather bored which is always a good sign. Poor night though with very dry mouth again and woke with sore knees and ankles! Had tried the gentle calf stretches but only once but Ive decided to leave my calves tight! Surely walking normally will help them? Better as day has gone on after 2 lots of ibuprofen and 1 dose of paracetamol. I was rather depressed but it's nothing like before so hoping it was just a blip.
Annoyed by itchy rash round mouth and chin which I've had for some time not helped by my very favourite Aveeno and went to see pharmacist this morning as I thought it was my toothpaste but he recommended an antihistamine. I have had vague sniffles and a runny nose for ages but it seemed unimportant compared with other things. May make dry mouth worse but hey....
This is very boring! Forgive me!
(The youngest has accepted offer of understudy for Joseph in Joseph/Dreamcoat tour @SurreyGirl. Third tour but previously as a brother and although it's probably a marking time job in a way with regard to his career it would be great to see him in it. Not ill wishing the main guy but hope he books lots of holidays at least...)
