jj, it does feel great to have them out. She put on 9 steri-strips and when there gone thats it. She said everything looks great. I did over due today. After getting staples out, went out to eat, the mall, wal-mart, and grocery shopping with my wife and didn't use one of those electric carts, just me and my cane. They are predicting 2-4 inches of snow tonite so tomm. will be a perfect rest day.

Sounds like me yesterday. I laid around all day today after my appt. Ice and resting. Make sure to relax tomorrow and rest. I think we all push just to see where our limits are. Each time I hope I can push further and further, but not too far. Happy for you that the staples are gone. I had staples with my last surgery and I will take stitches anytime over them.

Happy New Year to everyone. I have a question about out patient PT. I was released to outpatient PT last Fri.. I have not scheduled any sessions yet. I am still doing the exercises the home PT gave to me. My question is do they use any type of machines during therapy or is all hands on and give you an exercise program to do at home. The hospital which i had my surgery at has a clinic in my town where i can do my PT but was told they don't have any machines. My other option is to drive about 30 min. to the city where my OS is and do my PT at their facility, which i know has various machines for different rehab. I have to go there Thur. to see my OS for my 3 week check so i could ask about it then and i could ask my OS which he thinks would be best. Any and all input from you who have been through it will be greatly appreciated.....

I only use one machine. It is a nustep machine. I don't think it is key. Most of my PT has been strength exercises, steps, squats etc. We just added weights yesterday. (I am feeling that today) I am sure they will give you good advice at your facility. Good luck and Happy New Year!

I had my 3 week post op appt. today with my surgeon. They took 2 x-rays and he went over the whole procedure with me. He said everything looked great. They even gave me the x-rays on a disc. I have a metal cup with a polyethylene liner. The cup has a pourous surface to allow it to adhere to the bone better. He showed me the holes in the cup for screws but didn't need any. His thinking is the less parts the better off you are. My stem also has a pourous surface so it can ahere to the femur. The stem looks like one of those old fashioned clothes pins with the slit down the middle with a ceramic head. It just amazes me how they can do all this with just a 6" incision. The only restrictions i have are the 90' rule and crossing my legs. Starting out patient PT on Sat. I go back to see him in 4 weeks. He will release for work somewhere between 15-20 weeks post op. My wife and i went out for lunch after all this and it was the first time in 2 years i could sit in a booth pain free. What a great feeling......

Thanks everyone, Yes Pt says i'm doing great. I have nothing to compare it to so i take their word. Today i had my second out patient session. My OS has me going 2Xweek for 4 weeks. I no longer need any walking aids. My only concern is i'm still taking 2 norcos 5/325 a day for pain. I would like to get off them but still feel i need them especially after PT and i still have some pain/tightness in my knee area. The PT says my IT band on my operated leg is tight.....

Badgerfan,
Glad to hear you are doing so good. I am at 3 weeks today so I am a week behind you. I am still using a cane and taking pain meds. I am glad I can watch how you are doing so I know what I can expect. Sometimes I feel I am not progressing as fast but My doctor and PT say I am doing fine. I amd going to start pool therapy on Friday and m looking forward to it. Keep up the good progress and you will be like new before you know it!

Hello everyone, I had my 7 week follow up appointment today with my OS. He is extremely happy with my progress. I just finished my 4 weeks of out patient PT on Tues. My strength in my hip is normal and range of motion is good. He told me to continue with the hip flexor exercises. He also told me i could start exercising on a recumbant bike, elliptical, and treadmill. He still wants me to watch the 90' restriction and not to cross the legs. Wants to see me in 5 weeks, which will be 3 months post op. He will do another x-ray then. Not in any hurry to send me back to work.

Josephine, I think i hit a wall and am going the other way. 2 weeks ago i finished PT and had my 7 week follow up. Since then i think i'm going the other way. OS said i was doing great. He said it is normal to have some thigh pain and knee pain it should go away in a couple weeks. I have not taken any pain meds in a couple weeks because i have my yearly physical next week with my GP and i don't want to get any false blood work results caused by the meds. I am having pain in the hip now and down to the knee, probably in the 3-4 range and am limping again. Having trouble sleeping. Frustrating, i think i felt better @ 4 weeks than now. I know i'm gonna get scolded about the pain meds so let me have it !!!

Well, did your GP actually tell you that the pain meds might have a negative effect on your blood tests? Because I can't think of any routine tests that it would effect. So silly you! You know you're only 10 weeks out and it's quite usual to continue with aches and pains as you have already been told. You could take this for a few weeks as it should be quite enough to handle your symptoms and shouldn't have any effect on your blood tests.

Josephine, No he didn't. Just kinda my thinking. My GP is one who if he sees a test result off by 1 number he has you running to a specialist for for further testing. Some of my pain may be to shoveling snow. The last week i think weve had snow like every other day. Thanks !!!

Bagerfan,
Sorry to hear you are hurting.. I am too, but I know I over did it lately. I am laying in bed right now because I want to rest my hip. Take your pills, silly, Thats are what they are for. I have bloodwork tomorrow for a check up also with my GP. I have never been told that pain meds effect your results. If worried, you can also check with your doctor, but you know Joswphine is right. You have been very active all along but Shoveling snow probably just threw you over the top. Maybe you need to slow down some. We are still healing inside even though we are feeling better. Shall we start calling you Superman??? LOL Just kidding wuth you :-) Try to take it easy and hope it quits snowing!!!

Texas Girl, Thanks. You read about alot of negatives about what could go wrong, (dislocations, infections, loosening, ect.) and it gets me at least thinking. I may shoot my GP an e-mail about the Norco and see what his reply is. If he would of seen (maybe he did) some of my numbers in the hospital following surgery he probably would of had a fit......

Hi Badgerfan,
How are you? Did you get your physical and lab tests back? Hope you are feeling better. I got my labs back and my cholestrol was higher than normal but I have not been cooking and eating right since my surgery. I have to get back on track. My hemoglobin was back to normal. Heck it should be after 5 transfusions LOL I have been hurting some, but I have been doing alot. I am limping some at the end of the day. Actually, my back is hurting more than anything else. Either the way I am walking, or the chair I am sitting in at work might be making it hurt. I am still going at least twice a week to the pool and doing exercises. Hope you are taking easier and don't have too much snow to shovel, The panhandle got alot of snow today but I didn't. Take care! Let us know how you are!

Badgerfan, sorry to hear your still feeling gimpy. How did your appointment go today?
