Arthroscopy today

Thanks all. For those that have had an arthroscopy, did you find the pain in the weeks after was pretty similar (in place and feeling) to the way it was before? I hurt in exactly the same places but with more aching down the back of my leg. My iliac crest bone feels awful! I know it’s early days, but just wondering how other people felt after [emoji3]

Hi @cazmat, I found that the pain was much worse after the op for a good few weeks. The op itself will have caused quite a lot of trauma to the hip and takes a while to settle down. You will also find that the pain/sensations will move around over time, back, legs, groin etc... Don't be to alarmed it's all normal. You will have a better indication at the 6 week mark as to how things are going. The recovery is a little more difficult than a THR as you still have your own joints rubbing together and they take a while to heal.

Thanks, makes sense. It is progressively feeling more achey and stiff, but like you say I guess it’s just settling and repairing.

It might be worth easing off on any Physio too. It won't be doing you any favours this early in the process. I found any kind of Physio cause aggravation.

Happiness is a tennis ball, a wall and my bum! Utter, utter bliss!

Hahaha. I know what you mean. I have one of those balls with little rubber spikes. I lay on it sometimes and roll around.

@cazmat Do you know someone who does deep muscle massage? The head of the physio department where I had my LTHR did this for me post op. Hurts like the dickens at first but totally eases things if done right.

Hi @Jaycey I don’t. The physio didn’t even try and apply pressure as just a light prod resulted in an ouch from me! Been tennis balling for a few days now and feel really bruised...hoping that’s the storm before the calm!! Why does it hurt sooo much?!

They apply very firm pressure to the muscle much like what you do with the tennis ball only harder. At first tight muscles spasm a bit but it quickly eases - bliss!

So 9 weeks post op and it feels worse! I know recovery is long but starting to worry I’m going to be no better off. It’s going to be years before I’ll get it replaced. Feel miserable [emoji37]

I'm sorry you're suffering so @cazmat
I don't know a lot about Hip Arthroscopy but I hope your pain eases soon.
Saying a prayer :prayer: and sending a hug your way :console2:
Hope your night is peaceful.

Hi Cazmat, Sorry to hear you are still in pain. When you say it’s worse do you meen worse than before the op?

Are you doing Physio and walking a lot. If you are knock it on the head for a week and see how you feel.

Are you still icing and elevating?

Hi, yes at times it’s worse than it was before the op. Hurts in the same way but more intense, more bothersome at night. I knocked physio on the head a few weeks ago as it’s just too painful and really not walking much. See doctor in a week. Just worried he’ll say...well that’s it, wait until you’re older for a THR!
Elevating yes, ice no, can’t stand it!!

It’s good you are seeing the doc soon. Arthroscopys can take a few months to settle down. Let’s see what the doc says. They won’t just leave you with a bad hip. It will get sorted.

Thank you, I hope you’re right [emoji3]
