Arthroscopy today

I think I was off the crutches at 3 weeks and driving at 4 weeks. It was a bit uncomfortable though.

Have a good day. If it's anything in Wiltshire like it is up here you wont want to be going out to the physio.

Hi [emoji1309] physio was good, managed to get home before the snow. Now just have to do my exercises and use the crutches more than I am!
Will you be having a THR eventually @Alfie888?

Actually arthroscopy is done for Femoro-Acetabular Impingement (FAI) which is often a precursor to arthritic changes.

Having seen physio today (she had some notes) looks like I did have a cam impingement, cartilage damage and early OA. Wondering if the OA will remain as it is now and not deteriorate now it’s been seen to...

Good to hear the physio went well.

Yes, a THR will be on the cards. My arthroscopy hasn’t really gone to plan. Still in quite a bit of pain and discomfort. Things were a bit worse than they expected once they got in there. I’m waiting for a steroid injection at the moment to see if it helps things.

Don’t let my story dishearten you though, we are all different. I’m sure you’ll be on the road to recovery in no time.

@Josephine is probably the best person to answer you question about OA deterioration.

So, whilst the physio didn’t hurt me and neither did doing my exercises this morning my hip is now probably the most painful it’s been since the arthroscopy and I feel the need to use the crutches. It’s also painful above the back of my knee. Not sure whether to carry on or rest a couple of days. Hip feels just like it does when it’s feeling really bad!

Rest, ice and elevate. I would not do anything to aggravate your hip. You need to determine whether this eases with rest.

Thank you @Jaycey I will do just that [emoji846]

I agree with Jaycey. Sometimes what you do doesn't hurt at the time but the pain starts later. That's why its so easy to overdo it. Please let your physio know where you hurt and the level of discomfort and if/how quickly it eases - it can allow them to make adjustments in the type and amount of exercises. After a recent muscle strain, all of the exercises caused discomfort at the time and pain later. My PT (equivalent of physio) shut everything down, including PT exercises and stretches, for a few weeks to let the muscle settle and heal.

Thank you...it’s not even muscular pain, it’s where I believe the main bits of my hip op were, so pain is front groin. Definitely resting it!

That sounds about right. It will hurt if you over do it. You are only a couple of weeks out and still healing, and will be for the next month or so. That’s exactly how I was after my first physio, groin and hip pain. It really upset me as I’d been feeling great til the two week mark. I’d lay off the exercises for a day or two and get plenty of ice on it.

Hope you have a good weekend.

Thanks @Alfie888 that is reassuring as I’m feeling a bit miffed this evening, it really hurts!!

Sorry you're in pain @cazmat
Wondering if after some rest and icing your pain it's easing a bit...
Hope you soon find complete relief.
Warm wishes for a relaxing and peaceful weekend. Stay in touch.

Two weeks and 3 days and doing well as long as I don’t overdo it...or drive! Wanted to try it out, hurt immediately and drove less than a mile and now much aching! Lesson learnt. Not sure all physio exercises help, some seem to irritate.

Driving will come @cazmat. I am just doing short trips and do notice it can be bothersome. I personally am a big believer in not doing exercises that irritate. Walking seems to do me best. Down the line I may get back to my exercise routine, but right now just enjoying learning to walk correctly.

Hi there!
Give driving a little more time. I'll bet you're pretty close. Once I began driving, I'd get sore at about the 30 minute point. Sometimes felt like I was sitting on a golf ball. The seatbelt buckle fell in part over my incision which was a constant source of irritation. I began bringing one of those rectangular gel ice packs to cram underneath that part of the seatbelt. It helped!

Walking is best as most figure out on their own.
You sound well, keep up,the good work.
A great weekend to you!
@cazmat

I'm glad you learned your lesson. We want you well. Oh my stars...less than 3 weeks out from all that trauma!
Hope your weekend is peaceful...behave and be patient.:)

That’s probably a little to soon to be driving. Good to hear you are doing well though. Just take it easy and you’ll get there. I’m also not an advocate of physio that early on. Ease off a little if it hurts, you are still healing.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
