TKR Arrangrls RKR Journey

I’m 10 weeks out and still don’t like my legs down. I have recliners at home. The only time I’m sitting with my legs down is in the car and at a restaurant, lol. My knees hate our car, very comfortable in my daughters car, so weird what the knee likes or doesn’t like, lol.

Sitting for short periods is fine--I ate all my meals at the table, for example-- but for an hour or more in the early days will add to swelling.
Just to give you an example. I remember early on with my first knee, thinking it was rude to be lying down and elevating when a friend came to see me so I sat in a chair. Bad move. She stayed over an hour and by the time she left my knee was definitely more swollen and stiff. No permanent "damage," I had just inflicted unnecessary swelling on myself.

As you recover you can tolerate your legs down for longer periods.
Thank you
I’m presuming this improves with time ?

Evening :)

Today another small milestone achieved . I went on a short car journey, which was fine and had some lunch with my family . I asked restaurant to fill my bag with ice , which I then wrapped them in my dish towel and kept on my knee.. I think it helped somewhat . The whole outing took 1.5 hours and that was more than enough for me .
Still struggling at times with low mood but my gorgeous rag doll cat, Cosmo ( he’s 16 years old) has been very unwell, so this could be the reason, more than my knee. He goes to vet on Monday again and I feel in my heart I will be saying goodbye to my dear dear friend ..

Hope you are all enjoying a lovely pain free weekend guys

Does this improve with time ? Does the stiffness in the morning get less too? My surgery was only on 24th June this year, so I know, for me it’s very very early days

It will improve. I noticed the last two days my knee did not hurt being in the car. Hopefully this is a new trend.

I don't think I could sit that long but I am glad you got out for a family gathering! I am sorry Cosmo is not well, and that you might be enduring a heartache on Monday.

I have had my moments also. Every time I wake up and I am still in pain and my knee is still swollen- 8 weeks out, but it doesn’t last. As I start to move during the day , I feel better. We have to believe our knee is getting stronger every day ,because it is!
It’s more than okay to shed a few tears and scream now and then !

Sorry about Cosmo! I understand - my 17 yr old Frankie is also in her last days, now deaf and gone blind.
The morning stiffness will persist for quite a while - I am still stiff in both knees each morning (see my dates), so don’t be concerned. This is a full year’s recovery journey.

I was surprised! I did get up and use the restroom which prob helped. I have a small stool which I am taking with me , with a cushion when I go out again . I could then elevate my operated knee.
yes dreading Monday tbh

Someone also suggested to me to put a small pillow in the car, to put the foot of my operated leg on, which I did. There wasn’t much room, so it was very small, but any extra height helps, and I think it cushioned my leg a bit with the vibrations of the car.

For shoes I bought some stretchy Puma slip ones at first because my operated foot was swollen. I also wore Croc slip ons. It is hard to get shoes on in the beginning. I am in Ontario Canada so not sure of what shoes you have there. Just make sure they are snug enough so you don't trip! Good luck on your walk!

I’m so sorry. :console2::console2:
