TKR Arrangrls RKR Journey

Your morning view sounds idyllic ❤
I agree! We lived in the woods for many years. I miss it, and we had deer come through the yard in our house before this current one, when we lived in Ohio. So awesome!

Arrangrl, got to Ireland in the 80’s, but never made it to Scotland which saddens me because I have discovered my father’s family originated from Scotland before emigrating to Kildare. Family name is Lennox.
Sounds like your recovery is on track and you are being very sensible about it.
i was thinking of the tears, etc which we all seem to experience. In a way, I think there’s a grieving element to it...we are grieving the loss of our original knee(s) as God blessed us with at birth. They are no longer part of us and somehow our being realizes that and mourns the loss. Anyway, you are not alone and all of this will eventually pass.
Jo Wo, beautiful description of your morning!

I measured my leg and can happily report I have lost an inch in circumference in the most swollen area. was able to sit at my desk for about 20 minutes and have returned to ice and elevate in bed.

Knee slides

so this has been by far my most difficult PT exercise . I think I have been sliding too fast, so today , I just took my time . It hasn’t been nearly so sore at the time.. I’ll report how it feels after , later

slow and steady seems to be the name of the game x

Guys

how long do you sit with feet up, feet elevated and feet on floor in a day ?
I’m aware if resting my leg and importance of elevating but I am also aware I need to have times with my feet on the floor

thanks

They recommend 40 minutes elevated, 20 minutes up and about, so elevate twice as long as standing.

In the first weeks, sitting with your feet down is almost as bad for swelling as being on your feet. Gravity.

Really?!? I have read nothing about this. I thought it may be good to alternate from being up/ elevating , to short periods to help with knee bend? Thank you

Jan

Hi Jan, short periods with the knee down worked for me. Extended periods, not at all. I enjoyed a visit with a friend, had a cup of tea, Sat with knee bent for an hour or so. ,This new knee didn't like it at all.Markedly increased swelling.See what works for you.

That’s what I’ve been doing but not so long as an hour as of yet x

I kept getting up to walk in the doctors waiting room at my postop appointment today after the 45 minute car ride. my knee does not like to be foot to floor for very long. at just over 2 weeks I don't think I can take even 30 minutes sitting like that.

No need to spend time with your feet on the floor specifically to encourage bend, you will end up sitting like that enough over time. As the others said, it can be very uncomfortable for a while, to have your feet on the floor.

Sitting for short periods is fine--I ate all my meals at the table, for example-- but for an hour or more in the early days will add to swelling.
Just to give you an example. I remember early on with my first knee, thinking it was rude to be lying down and elevating when a friend came to see me so I sat in a chair. Bad move. She stayed over an hour and by the time she left my knee was definitely more swollen and stiff. No permanent "damage," I had just inflicted unnecessary swelling on myself.

As you recover you can tolerate your legs down for longer periods.
