Today I exited PT!
I was 131 degrees! on flex and -1 on extension.
I feel GREAT.
My pt said if I had any questions concerns I can come back, but I'm feeling really good about my progress.
This weekend I walk a 5k! on Saturday and I think a 2 mile fun walk on Sunday.

On the topic of Makoplasty
it is a topic that will be discussed at my 6 month follow up for my LTKR - my right knee medial compartment is shot. It looks like the other to compartments are good.
I have had 2 medial miniscus tear surgires in the last 2 1/2 yrs and have another new spot with a tear (medial again) currently.
I talked to my PT about this last night, and I think what I'm most concerned with now, is the pain I know vs the pain I don't know. My LTKR has been such an amazing blessing on my life. Currently I'm in pain all the time with my right knee, it hurts all the time but it is not the blinding pain of the left knee before I had it replaced. I NEVER want to wait as long for a knee replacement as I did with my left knee, I gave up too much life and was in TOO much pain for so long.
My PT has rehabed 2 people that have had Mako - one is very disappointed in the surgery (now 4 months out). My PT thought his expectations were not realistic to be able to play basketball like he could pain free like he did when he was "30 yrs old (now in mid 40s)". My expecations is to be able to walk and walk and walk! and ride my bike and hike and ride horses again some day! and have LESS pain.
I know Mako is pretty new, I'm not in a rush but how do I "really" know if it is the right surgery for me? or do I just wait until I'm really bad again and do a total????

I had Makoplasty 4 months ago. My outer compartment was in good shape but the inner and middle were bone on bone. I was pushing my OS to do Makoplasty if at all possible because I liked that my ACL (which was in good shape) would not have to be removed, less bone loss and possible greater precision from using computer/robotic assistance.
Everybody's recoveries are different, but from reading the posts on this forum, I think that I was able to do more in the first month, but after that my recovery has been about average for the last 3 months. I got rid of my walker after 1 week and never used a cane or crutches. It took about 3 weeks before I could make a complete revolution on a bike. I went back to work at the 4 week point. One of the frustrating parts of my recovery is that I felt I was making such good progress over the first 2 months, then it kind of stalled with little improvement until this week. This week I feel that the swelling has gone down some and I have a little more flexion and bounce in my step. I hope to be back out on the softball field next month!

and Saturday Morning I'm walking a 5K at Santa Anita park in CA!
then spending the day at the races, I can't wait!
(although bummed that 2 of the favorites have had to withdraw from the SA Derby)

It sounds like you have had a fantastic recovery. Enjoy Santa Anita Park and the horses---you have earned it!
As for the makoplasty, you might want to get advice from a few other knowledgeable surgeons and hear what they have to say. Too many people have said that they waited too long to have something done, and that they waited some time that they could never get back before they had the procedure done. Listen to what the orthos have to say and, given enough information, you can make an educated decision.

the 5k walk was fantastic today!
we had such a great time, Left knee is a bit swollen and hot tonight but it honestly feels pretty darn good and felt just GREAT on the walk!
right knee is really sore.
we had just a super super day!

Catherine, MAKOplasty is not available in every state. Where do you live? It may be challenging to find a surgeon to discuss your case with. As with a regular TKR, you will want to be sure that the surgeon you are considering has a LOT of experience with this procedure.
But I do think it's something you should look into. Since it is a resurfacing, there is less bone removed. There certainly is no guarantee that arthritis will not spread to your other knee complartment(s). The procedure is so new, that there really aren't a lot of statistics available on how long it lasts.

My knee damage seems to have been combo of being over weight (that is less of an issue EVERY day and I'm meet any weight loss goal my OS sets for me - I have lost 55# since May, most of that prior to my LTKR in january. but more than anythning else it seems my medial damage to my right knee has been insulted as my right knee working so...... hard to make up for what my left knee could NOT do prior to surgery. so
I think I have heard what I need and will talk to the Doc who has done close to or over 1000 as well as my current OS.
Also I live in OR (but only about 1 hr from WA state)
