...And so, I Begin

Oh dear @gullimac ,
I hope you are having a better day today. I feel for you because mouth aches are really ouch! Congratulations on the weight loss. I can assure you that being light will encourage a rapid recovery. I had that experience.
For the sore gums, I suggest ice cream - anyway - the kind of ice cream that contains milk. It helped me a lot when I had my wisdom tooth extractions. Take care - Constanze

I held back on a stack of books and projects and I find I have done some of them but not others. I think if you're struggling just now, don't hold back. If you're recovering at least you're worrying in a positive way about getting better rather than getting all stressed and nervous about what is to come.

Just before my surgery, I was so worried that it would get postponed. All the talk about if you have any kind of infection they won't do it, had me scared to death. Working in a seniors facility I see a lot of people with hip problems. I almost came to the conclusion that to fall and break your hip was the easiest way to get it replaced !!!

I had one of those notorious stress dreams where your teeth start falling out last night. Realized as I was waking up that I already had all of my teeth pulled so it had to be a dream.

Hip was aching when I woke up, I tried to get out yesterday and spray some weeds in the yard and must have spent too much time on my feet. I just desperately want to do something productive. So today's goal is to find something productive that doesn't involve standing, bending or walking.

Did do the eggs (with grits) and the milkshake thing (strawberry) yesterday.

3 weeks from today I will be on to my new challenge.

Headed to my weekly dentist visit tomorrow. Hoping we can make a few adjustments. That first 45 minutes of the morning with the lowers back in are still painful. Starting to have trouble keeping the uppers in place and still can't chew.

Better hip day today. Took a walk in the yard and unloaded/loaded the dishwasher, but little else.

Hope your adjustments help! My husband is about to get braces and I don't envy the pain- even though they will look great in the end, pain in your mouth is just so hard to manage!

Yes it is hard to find things to feel productive- 3 weeks! My how time has flown! Not long and you'll be in the road to recovery and productivity!

Made some major modifications on the dentures today. Added some soft silicon to the top to fill in some space and cushion the uppers. That is fitting better now able to "almost" chew a cheeseburger without a bun. Progress, but some new sensitive spots to get used to as we get to the end of the day.

Did some quick shopping right after the dentist and spent the rest of the day in the recliner. Hip is a little angry with me today, but manageable if I can keep the dogs from walking in front of me and stopping. Caught my reflection in a window while out shopping and realize that my limp is way more noticeable than I thought. Gonna have my work cut out for me correcting that.

I have the cats doing the start and stop thing in front of me. My older cat can open all the doors inside the house. So it is not uncommon to hear me ask him "Why can't you just be a gentleman and open doors for me, rather than wait for me to open them for you".

Add the cats vs dogs debate to our eastern vs western NC BbQ debate agenda. Hope that shiny new hip is treating you well @YoungHippy !

We actually have a cat too. She just needs me for food and a warm lap to sleep in....and that is only when the wife is not around. I fall much lower on the totem pole of preference. Our cat likes to open the door to our unfinished attic space. Much like our kids, she is incapable of closing any doors.

I think my husband is the cat whisperer as all cats love him, ours included. She never wants to sit with me, always him. We live at his work (farm) so he does come home for lunch everyday so we will just say he sees her more often, that's why

And MY dog howls whenever hubby goes off on the farm and does work without taking Meeko along-
I go outside and say I'm here but he just sits by the gate and waits for him to come home. Pfff

I have two 7 month old kittens. One of them thinks he's a dog. When I got for my little walks to exercise my new hip he comes along with me, walking to heel and miaowing anxiously if he thinks we've gone too far from the house. It's very cute!

@gullimac We won't have the cats versus dogs debate. I love dogs too. Have actually been wanting one since we moved out to the boonies a couple of years ago. I just don't have the patience to go through the puppy phase right now. I would like to get an older large dog. Still young enough to run and play, but old enough to already be potty trained and not chew my shoes. Of course this would be an indoor outdoor dog who loves to sleep on my bed at night and go in and out as he or she pleases during the day. We tried having a dog in town. I did not love the fact that I had to go outside every time the dog did. There was too much traffic and too many people. She could never just run free, always had to be on a leash. Out here there is enough room to run and roam without ever worrying a car hitting them or the neighbors not liking them.

Plus with my youngest kitty being in Satan mode now. She just nonchalantly jumps up at random times to stroll up my op leg, feeling like she weighs 30 pounds rather than the 8 she actually does and wearing this little smarmy grin. When she acts like this I would happily trade her in for a golden retriever.

And barbecue is pork chopped finely with a vinegar sauce. Think Pete Jones and the barbecue capital of the world. I also like the stringy pork with the red sauce. It's just not barbecue to me. When you say barbecue I think Pete Jones, so while the other kind is also good, if you tell me we're having barbecue and serve me some red saucy stuff I'm going to be very disappointed. And honestly I'm more used to the southern barbecue versus northern barbecue debate. After working with a Yankee for 2 years I learned to despise alot of northern things.

@YoungHippy Absolutely agree that the preferred way to do bbq is vinegar based finely chopped. I like the other way too, but if I get to choose, vinegar based wins.

I grew up with cats. My mom loved cats, despite being allergic to them. My wife grew up with dogs. Dogs NEED people and want to please you. Cats might like you, but they don't need you. I like them both, but we have 2 young ones right now that chew on everything. Our back yard is an explosion of stuffed animal innards.

Trying to take it easy with my limited mobility these days. Short time left until the 26th.

Just got a call from the benefits person for my OS. Looks like the only thing I will have to pay the doctor is $290. The remainder of my deductible. Interested to see what the hospital portion will look like.

Have my pre-op clearance stuff with my primary care on Tuesday. Starting to believe this is really happening soon. :fingersx:

That is good news!

And the great bbq debate.....I am a Texas girl (beef)....who spent some impressionable food years in Memphis, TN (pork). Bbq=ribs or brisket or even pulled pork....yum! Why limit the delectable goodness? This conversation is making me hungry--

@gullimac - that makes if feel close doesn't it? This next patch of time will whizz by.
I'm down to 5 days and suddenly I'm on the doorstep. From today onwards I cannot take my anti-inflams, so it's going to be extra uncomfortable. Will concentrate on getting last things organised at home and case packed. How are the teeth?

@gullimac all this talk has me craving barbecue too. Luckily the meat farm right down the road makes and sells some of the best barbecue. I sent mom to get us some so that's what's on the menu tonight.

Glad eating is going better for you now. I always hated that about dental work. It's like eating is something I've always been able to do no matter what is going on in my life and then I couldn't do that right.
