...And so, I Begin

So, good pre-op visit. My report time is 9:30 on Tuesday with surgery scheduled for 11:30. PA said if all goes well I would be released around 12:00 on Wednesday.

I had some fun with the hospital admissions tech. Kept it light and joked around.

I am ready to go!

Oh yeah I got my pre-op wipes too. Makes it seem official.

No work for me this weekend. Hoping for some family time with these two. They are very excited that their paw-paw (my dad) is coming for my surgery.

You're making me laugh (your wipes making it official)! Actually those wipes are quite handy the first few days post-op. Your little girls are just adorable! I bet they will want to take care of their daddy once you come home. Kids can be great little gofers! How nice that your dad is coming and spending time with them. Does he live far from you?

Paw-paw is 4.5 hours away. The girls haven't seen him since Christmas. With my job, I work a lot of weekends from January to April. We usually go to the beach in NC with my family in June. A drive that is in the 6-7 hour range for us and This year it happens to be the week I should be going back to work. Not sure I will be up for that long in a car by then and Unless I gate to go back to work earlier than 8'weeks, I can't afford to take time without pay to go anyway. My wife has said she would take the girls without me so they can be with their cousins. (Have I mentioned how great my wife has been through this whole ordeal lately?)

I am glad paw-paw is coming too. It has been a rough year for my dad, my brother and me with my Mom's death. None of the three of us are great about talking about our feelings. But we are trying to do better about that. My "dude den" is also our guest room/play area, so paw-paw and I will be having a "sleep over" and the girls are very jealous.

My sister-in-law lives in North Carolina and they go to Holden Beach every year sometime around June. No wonder you had a good cry the other day with losing your mom on top of facing this surgery. I'm so sorry. It will be good for you and your dad to spend time together. The girls will enjoy seeing "paw-paw", but I bet he will enjoy seeing them even more so. I'm praying that you have a very easy recovery and you're able to go back to work completely pain free. God Bless @gullimac!

We go to Ocean Isle Beach, just down the road @Cynthia777 . Yes as my PCP said to me last week, "you have had a profoundly sh:censored:y year, but I think we are at a point where there truly is a light at the end of the tunnel." He is actually a pretty good friend as well so I appreciated his candor.

@gullimac
Great news that you have a time for your surgery. Gosh, just a few more days and you will be on the road to recovery. How special it will be for your Dad to visit. Your girls will have fun as they will probably get spoiled by paw paw.

'Dude-den" that's a funny name. It sounds like you and your dad will have fun with that.

It is hard to talk about a death in the family especially if it is someone near and dear to our hearts. Maybe you will have some good conversations concerning your memories of your Mom. It's very hard the first year or two. I found the second year to be the hardest. The first year I was just numb. My siblings and I didn't talk much about our parents. The second year reality set in and a 'new norm' developed. By the third year, we talked freely about them. So it just a cycle that one has to go through.

Your daughters are cuties. You are going to do just fine.

Have a good wkend and let the final countdown begin!

Good day with all my girls. Went to the park after lunch (BBQ @YoungHippy ) with our girls. Then dinner and a different park with our kids and my sister-in-law's two kids. Off the pain meds today, so, a bit stiff tonight after all the movement.

The girls were rolling down a hill in the grass. My wife actually joined them (twice). Now they are all in bed (wife included) tuckered out. I was a little worried after the hill rolling we were going to have a re-enactment of the pie eating contest in the movie Stand By Me. If you have seen the movie you know what I am talking about. Luckily no barfing (only numerous threats from all 3).

Planning to take it easy tomorrow and conserve energy for my final day at work. Tonight partaking in an adult beverage (or 3) and watching the Chicago Cubs game.

Are you savoring your final nights before the big day or are you "Let's just get this done with"? I'm the latter. Do you have to shower fir three nights with the special soap (Hibiclens)?

Today I was in savor mode. Just enjoying being with my family. I realize how much this has effected my relationship with each of them. Wanted to give them a good day and worked hard to be "present" in the whole day. I admitted to my sis-in-law late in the day today how tough the last few days had been, including my melt down the other night. I don't even think my wife knows how bad the last week was for me.

Tomorrow I think I will be closer to the "lets get this done" phase. Certainly Monday at work will be totally on that side.

I only have to do these wipes on the night before surgery. All over my body (and I mean all over). The pre-op tech was explaining the whole process of the wipes to me. When she told me I had to go between my toes and below my knees I realized I was going to need help to do this. Gave the wife the bad news. Then we thought it might be fun to tell Paw-paw he had to help his son out and handle that job :rofsign:.

Honestly @gullimac all will be well. The pain of these final days is a reminder of WHY things are just going to have to change. And yes I hid a lot from my other half. What can we say, other than it blithering well hurts?! Thinking of you and counting down the hours :friends:
