I never had to wear socks, just 2 aspirin in the morning. Ohhh and the first shower is great. X

Hey Diane!!

Welcome home... Sounds like you are dong great!

Enjoy the downtime and being at your mom's... It's good having someone to look after you!

Rest easy!

Cheers
Ann

Just got caught up with you what all you have been going through since surgery. I am so glad it's gotten so much better and it will but when you are going through it it's hard to believe. Now you have good healing days to look forward to:). I am 2 weeks past surgery and I haven't really had any issues that I would say have given me a bad experience. I am now going through PT and that can be challenging for someone who hasn't had legs that have moved well in months and all of the sudden we're waking them up and they are rebelling. I need to go use my ice...continue to rest and relax and ice,ice,ice....take care.

I hate the stockings. I have to wear them for six weeks. How strange that there is such a difference in the follow up treatments like this. The woman in the next bed to me in hospital had the same op, at the same age, but with a different surgeon, and she had to wear the long thigh length stockings. (Sounds better than they look and feel!)

Well Diane, I just saw that you tagged me. I guess it does mean you win the bet. Probably because you are such a fit young thing and I am (person) so elderly. Either that or I just enjoy my post-op meds more than you. What did I bet you? We didn't say? How about a video of goats that sound like humans? Its my favourite thing right now.

And if that doesn't make you laugh, how about a video of a dog rounding up a cat?

Thanks, Vida, for my belly laugh for the day. I loved the dog bringing the cat home. Too, too funnnneeee!!!!:rotfl:

sandybeach, I've been icing since day one and believe it must be the reason why there's not terribly much swelling. I bought four smallish gel packs through my work (staff discount - heehee), and they've been invaluable. Every time I'm sitting or laying I have one up against the incision. As I'm allowed to side sleep with a pillow between my legs, I'm able to balance one on my operated leg while I sleep.

Thanks for the videos Vida. The dog bringing the cat home is hilarious! I don't think it's a young/old thing, I just did not enjoy at all the post op meds. I don't think I've taken anything stronger than paracetamol since day three, as I was so sick with them. I much prefer feeling like me. :spin:

Hmm. Maybe in my case, 'me' is better under the influence. Time for a glass of wine....

I'm with you, Vida. A glass of wine goes down so much better than a Percocet pill and can be enjoyed slowly and pleasantly.

Vicki get away with you and the 'elderly' stuff....as if! I loved loved the dog bringing home the cat video, never seen anything like it, what a hoot, thanks for posting that I'm gonna show everyone.

Firebrand....OMG..that poor woman having to wear thigh length stockings, the knee length ones were bad enough. Imagine the struggle getting the longer ones on. Your more likely to give yourself an injury getting trying to pull those up

Anniepops, I saw her last week at physio, she said that as soon as her eyes are open in the morning the damn things are off as they drive her mad!

Hi Octopus, how are you doing? Did you guys have the heat wave that we did yesterday?

Hi pjm

I had a fantastic sleep last night, one five hour stretch amongst the one and two hour ones. Felt fantastic this morning. That lasted about 20 to 30 mins before I'm back in bed to rest. I'm at a funny place, bored and need to do something, but have little energy to do much. I'm doing a little bit of this and that as nothing holds my attention for long, read, watch a movie, look at a mag, cut out a picture, stick picture in journal, check Bonesmart, emails, Facebook etc, get up walk around. and repeat. Except for movie, 10 mins each. :) not minding it at this stage, just going with the flow. I'm still amazed at how little pain I have at this early stage and am really pleased with my progress. Clips come out tomorrow. :yikes:

I'm really pleased at the timing, the weather has been and still is gorgeous. I can wear very little clothing and getting up in the night does not require jumpers and slippers. My current favourite daywear is a singlet or t-shirt with a sarong. It is hot, but I'm sure nowhere near as hot as in Australia. What part are you from?

I know where you are at the moment but that will be gone by next week. I have been able to do so much more this week than last week. After overdoing it a bit yesterday, I thought last night would be a bad night but I actually slept really good and did not get up to go to the bathroom at all. Yea! Our weather cooled off to 19-20 yesterday and today is 17. I am in the southern tip of AU so we usually get the changes before Melbourne. I have been running around in loose shorts and t-shirts but yesterday I actually put on something nice and it felt good. My bandage came off yesterday and steri strips will fall off in the shower. Incision looks good.

Ahem, enough of the heat talk ladies. Some of us here are suffering! I looked out at the lovely blue sky and sunshine all morning, so when my husband got home I asked him to go out for my second post op walk. As we were walking up the road, I thought I could see white blossom falling in front of me. Nope. It was snow.

Don't worry Firebrand, very shortly it will be the other way around. I'm grateful we don't get snow where I live, that must make life very tough, especially after a THR. Hang in there, spring is on it's way!

Your first week after surgery sounds alike mine was. I sat around with ice packs took my med's and let my husband wait on me. I didn't have a lot pain either from the surgery but then I took all my med's on time around the clock. We even set the alarm clock and woke up in the middle of night and took them. I didn't want to wake up in the morning and have pain issues to face. I am glad all is going well.

You, sandybeach, have, for following the BoneSmart philosophy to the letter, earned yourself a big gold star; and here it is!

[Bonesmart.org] A Bionic Octopus!
Just keep follow that mantra all the way through and you'll have a GREAT recovery!

Take care and keep us posted. We care. [Bonesmart.org] A Bionic Octopus!

Off to the doctor to get the clips out today as per nurse's instructions on discharge from hospital. Local dr and nurse check letter from hospital which says 12 days from surgery, another two days. So have to go back on Monday. Wound looking very clean.
