Yay! Glad you made it! I had low BP issues until the second day after surgery. I almost fainted after trying to walk further than the bathroom on the first day after surgery. My blood pressure would drop whenever I got vertical. By the second day I was fine. Some of us just take longer to clear the anesthetic out of our systems.

Oh and the itching! I didn't have morphine, but those pressure stockings sure made my legs itch. Hated those things!

I had a guy with dementia in the room next to mine. Not only that but he was hard of hearing, so the nurses had to practically yell so he could hear them. Fun times. Thank goodness for doors that close and the white noise app on my phone.

I hope you are feeling less itchy and pukey soon! For ice in my hospital they just had plastic bags and an ice machine, like Vida's experience. Low tech, but effective!
 
Kiwi Diane, so good to see you've landed on the other side! Yes there was some turbulence, but I hope the side affects subside quickly so they don't detract from your important misson of healing! And what's the deal with the ice packs? Can't believe we're even talking about that one!

Oh, and give me some of what bellaroma is on! I can't wait until she goes back and reads some of her posts! I think it'ts a combo of the meds and being so stinking happy not to have a repeat performance by her doc! We still think the wedgie threat had something to do with that!

Hiya Diane How are you doing? I hope the initial problems are OK and that your BP is on the up. It took a few days for mine to its pre-op level but that just seems very common. Are the itching and sickness any better yet?
Hope you are managing to get some sleep - hospital can seem like Bedlam can't it?

İm sure you feel much better by now.
İ also had low blood pressure and low hemoglobin levels just after the surgery but be patient it will be over very soon.

Welcome to the better side!! How is the BP and med situation!

You are literally 20 minutes away from me... I can bring you a bag of frozen peas!

I had low BP issues for a couple of weeks.. It does get better.. I had to really make sure I was getting enough water... That seemed to help a bit.

The dazed/spaced out/groggy feeling can take a while to go... Don't waste your energy fighting it... Just know that it will pass!!

Hope the nurses on the floor are as nice as the ones I had in their ER.

Rest easy octopus... :)

Thanks for all your messages. I will read and reply when I can. Having trouble with focusing on my ph and it tens to make me feel a bit woozy. Blood pressure still low, very tired, small headache. Pain not too bad, maybe 2 out if 10. I reAlly appreciate all your thoughts and prayers.
 
I think this must be day 3 post op

I feel sick, can't eat my breakfast
Tired
Have a very sore back from too long in bed
Catheter out
Used crutches to walk to toilet & back four times
Sitting in chair
Very tearful & miserable
Don't want to do this anymore but haha, have no choice now!
 
Oh dear octopus you sound like things are hard going at the moment. Hopefully this is your lowest point, and things will improve after today.
 
Diane, sorry you're still feeling a bit blah. Make sure you let the staff know, as it could just mean you need to change some of your meds. It's good to hear the pain is being managed for you. It took me a while, even after I got home to feel like eating on a regular basis, let alone normally. Look out at your wonderful view and let your mind wander far, far away. This too shall pass. Sending you comforting vibes your way. Feel better Kiwi warrior!

So glad to see you finally had your surgery!! You were originally scheduled right around the same time as me.

I too, experienced, no appetite, sad, miserable, sore back. I guarentee you that you'll be feeling better with each passing day!

Hi Diane,
Now that its 14 days post op, looking back, I probably felt blue, miserable 3-4 times without any reason and cried for a couple of minutes. My hubby felt himself helpless and my daughter was also stunned to see me like that.
The good part is it's like the April rain, does not last long and it goes away in 1-2 weeks.
Please do not worry, tomorrow the sun will rise again.

So sorry you feel so bad now Diane. Looking back now, I think the second and third days were bad too for me. I think everyone has a brief moment when they think "what have I done?" Sending prayers and hugs your way, it will get better.

Just dropping by to echo every one else. The first few days are hard, but it does get better!

I found the sore back was better once I got home. I had to switch to the guest bed which is softer than mine, but once I did that, my back improved greatly. I had a few "what have I done?!" moments, but then I would remember that the bone on bone pain was gone even on the first day. That gave me hope that it would all be better in the long run.

octopus, I was nauseous in the beginning, too, and it was just miserable. Can they give you something for the nausea? It will make you sleepy, but sleep is what you need right now. I hope tomorrow is a better day. XO
 
octopus, Sorry you are feeling down. But like others are saying it will get better. What is up with the ice packs anyway? I had great ice packs, flat, soft and flexible. I'm still using those critters. Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry Poppet, forgot to tag you earlier.

My nausea is still hanging about, but surgeon has charted some big gun meds & it seems to be settling. Am told its the meds from surgery and can hang about 3 to four days. Being day four lets kick it's but!

Am walking further and pain level is good just using panadol every four hours.

Had to have a new lure put in last night but had a really good nurse who got a vein first time. I'm told my veins are very difficult to find.
 
Glad the IV went in well, you should still see the bruises from all the ill fated attempts to start a new line I had. Hope the anti-nausea meds kick in, you certainly need some relief from that. Wash hugs from a fellow bonesmartie with difficult veins.

Congratulations you are now the owner of a bionic heap.. I am so thrilled for you :)

Sounds like they will settle your med protocol down swiftly and then let the recovery begin.

p.s sorry I am MIA I have study to do, so am restricting my time on the forum, but I will keep watch over your thread :)
