Other than the traditional boredom and short attention span, sounds like things are going as planned! Glad to hear the clips are out with out any drama. Look forward to hearing how Monday goes!

:yay:

Hi Octopus, great that the wound is looking good. How is everything else going?

I went for a walk along the street yesterday, not very far, but further than I'd been before. It seems I have a little more energy everyday, and simple tasks don't exhaust me the same. I can now safely shower myself, without worrying about falling on the floor. :)

The entire north island has now been declared a drought zone. It's overcast this morning, bit it remains to be seen if the few drops that fell out of the sky for a minute are going to turn into anything worthwhile.

Hi Selin

I have been given no instructions as to how long to use the crutches for. I am having physio in a week or so, so will ask then. I am still using two crutches, I feel more secure at this early stage, especially outside, and I am concentrating on walking properly as I have limped for well over a year. I do use 1 crutch, for a few steps in the kitchen and bathroom. I am guessing in a week I will feel more confident about using one.

Hi Octopus, we are getting the rain today. We had some really big down pours earlier. It does feel good to be getting around doesn't it? I actually feel better now getting around on one crutch rather than two especially in the kitchen. You will be surprised how much more you will be able to do next week.

No rain where I am pjm... bright blue skies, warm sun, good drying weather.... welcome to another Aussie by the by :)

octopus, sounds like you are doing really well, my dear Kiwi friend.. slow and steady babe :)

Rain showers on the souther coast for sure today. Sun comes out then more rain......I have spent the day laying around and cooking.

:yikes: :yikes: :yikes:
Just had an earthquake! 4.0 only 5kms deep. I know, a reasonably small one, but in a city that doesn't have them, and has 50 odd volcanos, it's a little nerve racking. (Especially after recent events in Chrsitchurch). I hope there aren't any more.

The rain has returned today, which is good, we certainly need it.

Feeling pretty good, really can't believe it's not been two weeks yet.

Eek, just read about the earthquake. Glad to hear you are safe and sound!

Regarding your crutches, you'll know you're naturally doing better when you start leaving one in another place (and eventually the other, then your cane). Wow, two weeks coming up! Sometimes it drags, then you look at the calendar and, bang! it's sprinted forward and you wonder where all the time went! Or, it's just the good drugs...

You're doing great just heading out on your walks. Just pace yourself and know you've got to get back, so don't venture too far out just 'cause it feels good when you start out. :thumb:

Yay for walks outside! As everyone will tell you, don't forget to pace yourself. I often chose to ice right after walking. That cut down on the swelling quite a bit. Calmed down after the earthquake? We have had several here, in the years I have lived here. I have managed to be outside every time, but it is still a bit freaky.

Thanks dede62, I have been wondering about the crutches and when to ditch one. Although I feel good, I have been resting more than I think I need to, mindful of the sudden energy drain. I will keep it in mind when I go for bigger walks.

Wow Diane, I hope things are OK. Nothing like an earthquake to put things in perspective. Crossing fingers you stay safe over there. xx

Hi nerdgrrl, still calming down. I feel a bit better having just read that it's not too unusual for us to have these small earthquakes, but usually we don't feel them. (There was one 5 mns earlier that we didn't feel). But ther is also the possibility of aftershocks. Mum heard a bang and felt the initial jolt, but I just woke to the bed shaking, and shaking.

Thanks Vida. I've been wondering since, how I'm supposed to get down on the floor to shelter without breaking the 90 deg rule.

Hi Octopus, I am very watchful about falling, if you did fall and hopefully nothing was hurt, how do you get back up???

I was sleeping but it woke me up, it probably wasn't enough to make someone fall. There have been no reports of damage, only some cracked concrete.

Hi octopus, that earthquake sounds scary, glad to hear you are ok. I think from what I understand the issue of when to reduce the crutches is down to your surgeon's instruction. I went for my two week post-op physio appointment on one crutch as I had been finding it more comfortable (which admittedly was stupid to do going out, as it was a long walk inside the hospital). She pointed out the error of my ways and reminded me that I am partial weight bearing for four weeks. However, I went back to using one crutch at home, and two when I went out. I'm hoping that when I go back next week for my four week physio appointment she'll tell me I'm good to move to a cane.

Uh oh. In the event of an emergency you can get down using a chair and the golfer's reach, then bending down on the good knee! Back up the same way, altho I grant you when there's an earthquake it would be tough to think logically! Stay safe and keep up the great recovery Diane....

Hiya Diane That earthquake sounds pretty scary - i remember once feeling a tremor at work - 4 floors up in a shonky building and that was bad enough! Sounds like your progress is just textbook perfect. I didn't have any instructions regarding shift from 2 to 1 crutch etc but it's surprising how a time comes when it just feels right. That transition is lovely - you can carry a cup of tea around yourself! I see you have a ceramic on ceramic hip - me too! It's strange how few people mention what type of implant they have. What approach did you have? Mine was posterior so my scar runs for 8 inches just a bit further back than the side - very difficult to see without twisting!

You are doing incredibly well by Kiwi friend - carry on with your smooth ride
Lots of good wishes
UK Diane xxxxxxxxxxx
