Great report Diane. I think you should do some drawings of how you have felt about your hip at various stages, the colours of pre-op pain, surgery and recovery etc. I think it would make a lovely piece. My husband has a pottery studio and I have considered going down and making some hip 'joints' out of clay, then painting and firing them. It would be great therapy. Except I am a writer with very little artistic talent.. so they would probably be pretty ugly! Your mum sounds lovely, enjoy being spoiled. I can never spoil my 34-year-old daughter enough.

Good idea, I'll give it some thought and see what I come up with. Thanks Vicki.

Glad you're doing well Diane. Just noticed you're in New Zealand, i have an aunt and cousins out there, they've been there since before i was born. My aunt tries anything arty, last time she was over she had made the kids socks and my mum got a painting. lol

If you want a few minutes entertainment, take a look at these talented guys.

Audball, no unfortunately they didn't! I was very disappointed. But I think it has opened up many other opportunities for them.

Wow, you "sound" a lot better! Have you had your breakfast in bed yet? :cheers2: It sounds like your mom is taking great care of you.

My hike was great! I'll be posting some pictures on my thread soon.

You are doing fantastically, my Kiwi friend :)

Shower, wash the hair, eating more... All sounds like progress :)

I am Selin, I feel so good because i feel well, and am myself again. I can do more each day, but I keep in mind not to push things and rest often.

Time for a week one update:
Appetite restored
Energy levels improving
Can stand without crutches
Very little pain with walking, still using two crutches, can bear some weight
Awake for longer periods
Better & longer sleeping periods (2-3 hours)
Sit in a chair for 15 to 20 mins
Can sit and cut out pictures for a collage! :) does that win me the bet Vida?

isn't that first shower just the best octopus. Never thought I would be so euphoric about taking a shower but I was. It's so nice to feel squeaky clean again.

Good update, things are going in the right direction, hope they continue to go smoothly.

Take care

Ann

Sounds great Diane.
I can not believe the progress of each day and each week with my case. It is similar with most of us here.
I was just wondering how you manage with the compression socks. What's the weather in New Zealand at this time of the year? Can you tolerate the socks in hot weather?

I just had the one sock on the good leg while I was in hospital. And was told I could remove it when I left. So it's not been an issue for me, thankfully. We are having a really dry summer which as brought lots of lovely sunny days. Technically it's autumn now I suppose, but there is no sign of the end to summer as yet. The temperatures where I live don't get very high, perhaps in the late twenties early thirties on the hottest days (Celsius). It's not been good for the farmers though.

Yes Ann, it was amazing. I think I laughed like a small child splashing in a fountain. My mum had to help me as I'm still quite weak, and she wanted to run for the camera to take a pic of my face!

Good for you Diane.
I was advised to have the socks on for 3 weeks on both legs. ı have a couple of more days...they drive me crazy after a couple of hours. It may be menapouse, I dont know.

I wore the socks for six weeks Selin and they drove me crazy too, My skin was so dry and itchy. What a relief to not have to wear them ever again.

I can imagine how awful it would have been to have to wear them for any length of time. I hate wearing stockings even in the winter, I don't like that constricting, suffocating feeling on my skin.
