I noticed too that my worst pain seems to be deep tissue pain where the tourniquet had to have been on my thigh. I rub it nearly all day to help relieve the pain. Someone mentioned a pain cream. What might that be? Maybe I could be massaging that onto my leg at the same time I'm doing the rubbing. I'm 12 days out and go-to the surgeon tomorrow. I still have a little drainage on the top part of the incision, so not sure if any of the staples will come out or not. I keep icing all day and night and have some stress pain behind the knee that doesn't always allow me to lay my leg out straight. I am trying to learn patience. Thanks for your support here. I use a gel made with ibuprofen called Ibuleve can only be bought in the United Kingdom but there is another one called Voltarin gel which can be sold in the United States and I believe Mexico also. They are topical ointments that relieve pain locally on the skin

Hey everyone! Just an update.
I'm now 13 1/2 months out from TKR, and what everyone says is true.....TIME is your best friend after TKR! At a year out, I spent a week at a camp for girls and hiked all over that place with no pain, no problems of any kind. Even over the last 6 weeks, I am still experiencing a loosening of the remaining stiffness in my knee. It continues to improve in flexibility even now. So if you're in the throes of recent recovery {which is SO SO HARD} take heart!

After a lifetime of pain, swelling, surgeries, etc., my knee is now better than it's ever been. It's a miracle.

Hey there, @chsed, I'm still here, and it's great to see you back. Especially, with such good news! The wait is definitely worth it. All that fussing, moaning and crying are just a thing of the past. The first time I was able to go up and down the steps, like a normal person, in over 25 years had me jumping for joy inside! Being able to walk and ride my bike again without pain is a thrill. And picking up my foot and putting it on the brake without screaming, "Ouch!" is a blessing. All this took time, but it has come!

Hi chased. I have experienced the same. My surgery was October 2016. Everything is good except ask the things you mentioned above. No they do not tell you everything before surgery as to what to expect after surgery and the slow healing. Do you have any suggestions to relieve the discomfort.?

Hi Chaca! I hope your knee is improving as mine has. When I was still having pain and discomfort, the ice machine was my BFF. Also, I discovered by accident that a little hammock pillow we had was PERFECTION to support my knee at night--in between my knees, and underneath the sore knee when I slept on that side. I used it up until a couple of months ago. Highly recommend something like that if you haven't tried it.
