TKR 5 weeks out and enjoying this forum

Well back to report I slept straight thru the night so the 2 tabs of Tramadol and 1 tab of the Flexerol( muscle relaxer) do the trick for me. During the day I only take 800mg of ibuprofen if needed every 6 hours.
I hope you can find what works for you but I agree with Josephine, sleep in the recliner if it's more comfortable.

Have not posted in a bit but I am 8 weeks from RTKR today. I am finally back in bed and doing so so. Pain still wakes me up but not terrible, horrible pain. Sleep with a pillow between my knees but it is a trick to get it to stay put. Husband suggested using velcro. (haha) Have had a few nights that pain did not wake me up and it was wonderful. Still going to PT and my ROM is 116/0. Just using tylenol for pain and it seems to be working OK. I still have the ice machine and use it daily. Drove myself to St. Louis this weekend for granddaughter's birthday party and did just fine. (3 hours one way) Hubby was supposed to go but got stranded in Chicago on a business trip. Did not get home in time to go.

Broke a tooth yesterday so have to see the dentist on Wednesday. The OS here has a TKR patient take antibiotic before each dental treatment so have to pick up those meds tomorrow. Going to visit my Mom in the nursing home Wednesday afternoon and Thursday to take her to the doctor. She is about 2 1/2 hours away from me. See my OS on May 5th so hoping that goes well. May 9, I am flying to Oklahoma for two weeks to visit our daughter and her family. Plan on spending a lot of time in the pool and hot tub with the kids.

All in all, doing pretty well. Stamina is not where it should be nor is the strength in my leg but progress is being made. Still need to rest a lot and pace myself and the knee. Still some pain but nothing serious. Hope everyone is making progress and enjoying their new knee!!

8 weeks is still early days in your recovery. My doc reminded me that I needed an hour of rest for every two hours that I was up. I still made myself rest after lunch and after dinner---it is hard because you want the recovery to be over, but there are still months ahead of you before you are back to being yourself.

Did not intend to drive to St. Louis by myself but with hubby and flight delays, did not have a choice. Our Granddaughter is a special needs child and was plenty upset that Grandpa could not be there that I just could not disappoint her. Had thought I would drive back in the evening of the same day but son and hubby threw a fit. I wouldn't tell them but they were right. That would have been silly! Daughter in law is a NP at a pain clinic and her Mom works for a group of 10 OS. They would not let me get too crazy with activity!

I do not burn things up doing housework. Dishes, laundry and picking up is about it. Tell myself every week that I will take one room a day and get it into shape. Hasn't happened yet! Things are not bad, just need dusting and swept. That is the one thing I can put off! :snork: The housework fairy has apparently gone on strike!

Hope everyone is doing well! Hang in there!

I was 8 weeks yesterday from my revision and pretty much doing the same as you. Im getting frustrated now lol so keen to get on with it.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do...I would've driven the 3 hours also for someone that was looking forward to my visit...Glad you didn't drive back the same day though...Im at 10 weeks right now and at 8 weeks I was beyond ready to get on with living...I still have pain if I do too much and some swelling, but that is to be expected. My stamina is not where it used to be, but I am finding that every week I have a bit more energy. I still take pain meds because I need them..doing PT 3x a week and back to walking dogs and enjoying life...Im looking forward to the days where I don't even think about the knee and I know I will be there soon enough...I LOVE going in the swimming pool and jacuzzi, I can't swim very well yet but I can "run" and walk in the water..just feels good to be up and mobile! Hang in there, you are doing GREAT!

Returned from seeing my Mom late this afternoon. Drove down yesterday to take her to a doctor appointment this morning. She is in assisted living and does not get around well but I must make sure she does not fall. We make quite a pair! Knee is grouchy tonight. Actually, the old yucky knee is grouchy too. Been a crazy week and I just need to rest. PT tomorrow morning and then will be able to rest between loads of laundry. Hope this weekend is quiet!

Hope you all are doing well!

Made it to 118 ROM on my own today with no help from the therapist. Her goal was 115 on my own and mine is 120 on my own. I will be happy with that and it will happen at some point. Ordered a recumbent bike today and it should be in on Thursday or Friday. Really enjoy using the one at therapy.

Knee was a bit grouchy til I sat with leg elevated and the ice machine going. Love that thing!!

Lets all have a great sleepy time night!

I have a Nautilus recumbent bike and really like it. Hope yours works out well.

PT was cancelled today due to the therapist having a sick child. So, I see her at 10 am and my OS at 1:20 tomorrow. Think all will go well but guess you never know. Also, the ice machine is going back tomorrow. They let you rent it for 8 weeks so my time is more than up. It is the kind that runs on distilled water and rubbing alcohol. Did an awesome job.

Getting ready to fly to Oklahoma on Saturday for 2 weeks with our daughter and her family. Trying to pace myself to get everything done. Preparing a meal on Friday for a friend in our Care Group that broke her wrist. Plus getting the dog groomed and me groomed. Wondering what security will do with the knee? Also have rod and screws in back, stents in heart and screws in shoulder. Know what has happened in the past but not sure with the new knee.

Been sleeping much better. Finally!!!!

Tell them about the knee and they will most likely wand you.

As for sending the ice machine back, I still use ice packs called "Colpacs" made by the Chattanooga Colpac Co. They are awesome---bumps, bruises, and strains and such. Even though you are eight weeks or so out, I would suggest getting some re-useable ones as icing still may help you down the road. I bought the 12" X 18" ones.

Cindy, please see a private message I sent to you recently. It involves an urgent matter pertaining to your BoneSmart account.

PT this morning. Made it to 120 on my own. Woohoo!! Saw my OS and he said the knee and me look really good. He said he did not want me to go beyond 130 with the ROM. Guess this surprised me a bit. See him again in 6 weeks. Good visit!

Referee54, Where did you find that brand of ice pack? I found a small one at Walgreens that straps on to the knee but does not cover enough area. Definitely need something bigger!

I actually bought it through the hospital pharmacy---it was the same kind that they used in my PT sessions. You can get them from Amazon now---they look like this:

Like I said, I still have two of them and keep them in my freezer in case I get hit with a foul ball/pull a muscle, strain, etc.
