My surgeon was reimbursed about $3000 for BTKR which obviously included 2 implants..surgery..90 day postop care. Original Medicare. So you know the implants are probably 99 cents..:)

They won't be able to change it It has been billed to the insurance co already. I would find out the implant mudel number and call the co. They should be able to give you the Medicare price. And don't settle for the first negotiated price. Keep going.

My insurance company told me to ask the hospital to send in a corrected claim. They have told me twice now to have my hospital change my status and send a corrected claim I would only owe then my 175.00 co-pay. So, I think my insurance will accept it, if the hospital will actually do it. But, I will go the negotiation route as soon as they turn me down..which should be by the end of the week.......
Thank you so much!!!

I do think we should have been informed of charges up front . I got a bill for $400.00 . I know this us much better than what they are trying to charge you . Though I was still Was surprised by that . I did call hospital and they said per day co pay . All the insurance co. Had told me is it was a preferred hospital and they would cover bill . I felt stupid when I got the hospitals bill . Our insurance company failed to inform us or PT our co pay went up $ 10.00 a visit . Grrrr . How are you doing recovery wise ?

@Pjmc Well, I thought I had it all figured out and discussed it all with my husband before hand... the whole thing. I have now decided it is almost impossible to figure out the insurance rules and the hospital rules ahead of time and then it is the luck of the draw on how it is coded. I wish we could get a very close estimate of what are costs should be, prior to signing on the dotted line.
But, on a good note... I think my knee is doing great. I am less than a month out with a ROM of 124, driving myself to PT and off of most of the narcotics.. I do take one here and there.. usually after I get home from PT! But, I am doing stairs and doing a lot of my indoor chores. My husband is actually surprised how well I am doing. I did have a set back on Monday with a marathon PT session... but I am doing well.
I do not think I would be doing with well without Bone Smart.... I did not get enough direction as to how to recover or elevate. I have been very careful if I am not puttering around the house or doing exercises, I am iced and elevated. I tend towards doing stupid things during a recovery.. and Bone Smart has made it clear not to do that stuff. I have not even been in the pen with my goats or pony yet.

It is interesting to me---the hospital knew you had to pay a co-pay----and I am sure they knew what it was. When you talk to them about your status, stress that you had to be readmitted to another hospital because you were discharged too early. Mention that you will have another knee and that you do not believe in suing hospitals.

They are afraid to change anything because they made a mistake and opened the door to a mal practice suit. They are afraid you will sue and if they change anything it will indicate a mistake. Perhaps you can use that to apply a subtle pressure so that you do not have to pay a huge bill.

I love my little pokey hosPital too---but they gave me a break down of expenses BEFORE surgery with the caveat that it might be more if I had any complications.

Hospitals can't just kick you out. You have every right to appeal and they cannot force you to leave while the appeal is in process. The jssie here is who ordered the discharge. It would have been the OS so I would make sure first that you know where the orders came from. Hospitals don't discharge. Physicians do.

Oh my gosh. You need to go to the state agency that oversees hospitals. Don't mention the implant at this point. It is important to just focus on one thing..your health, the horrible care and the potential consequences if you had followed their instructions. But first I would contact a health care attorney and not discuss this with anyone. You need legal advice. Trust me that the $3000 will not have to be paid. The reason I suggested an attorney is that you did have damages..because you had to go back to the hospital. I would not even discuss this with your doctor. What state do you live in?

Right now you need to put your energy into healing your body.

Merry

You have time. You won't heal if you are so stressed out. Please do not talk to anyone outside the forum about this. And even this forum is not private. I would not do a thing u til you speak to an attorney.

Ok, I will pass your advice to my husband. My brother said the same thing.
Thank you
Robin

@hbacres Aside from the the stress of being released early and having to go to another hospital . The crazy high bill . We have Prepaid legal usually just need to make a call and they give us advice .
Even though your surgeon must have released you early . Be careful not to alienate him . I accidentally did that , my operating ortho whom I am not pleased with dumped me . When he heard I had gone to see another ortho . I regret having wasted 5 years with this dr that operated . Only problem is no one else wants to pick me up . Oh , well I always learn the hard way :)

You seem to have awesome rom and doing great at driving and cut down on pain pills . Seems remarkable to me .
I have not been in with our Goats we have three Pygmy breed . The one is larger Loco has hit me with his horns right on my leg several years ago . Sounded like a hammer hitting my bone . So no way will I be going in with them for a very long time . He is a wild one . He has been fixed too .
I watch them from my kitchen window . I have been hibernating this week .

My goats are pretty quiet. I have 4 now....an Alpine, a Nubian, an Oberhasli and a Nigerian Dwarf. I have gotten knocked down by them before...one butts another in to me. They always look surprised to see me on the ground when this happens. Mine don' t have horns. My OS said I should wear one of my old braces in with them at first, just to protect the soft tissues if the is an accident. My husband is going out of town in little over a week, then I will need to go in and feed. I will go in earlier, before he leaves, so they are not so excited to see me. I have been visiting over the fence. My Alpine wether is my youngest, he will be 3 in March, he is current packgoat prospect for when I get to hike this summer.

i'm interested to know how it goes with your goats and the mini--I can flap my two 15 hand beasts off with a hat or a glove and was so leery of getting knocked down or trampled before surgery that I put the fear of the Lord into them as regards ground manners--didnt have any problems at all with them even as early as about 2 weeks post op when I used a cane to go see them up close and personal. They are both teenagers and have been with me for 7 and 8 years and at this stage of life nowhere near as exuberant as a goat. And then there's the issue for you of Mini Attitude--pushy little guys in my limited experience.

My riding buddy moved a small herd of minis from their owner's place to her's when a friend had orthopedic surgery-- they were with her for several months. Buddy is extremely assertive with equines--they come when she calls, they knock it off when she says to, and she can stop impudence by pointing a finger with my two. With the minis it took concerted effort and good old fashioned whip-breaking (note to the nonhorsey this doesnt mean beating them until the whip breaks, it means training them to respect the hand that holds the whip--the whip gives direction, not punishment). Anyway, she had all of them toeing the line when she sent them home to their mom.

@jeano Well, my mini is 14 years old now and I have had him for 10 years.. he had a rough start in life... very abusive... so while he likes us and all.. he can do with people or without. He hangs out for treats and scratches, but he moves off easily. Pretty much nothing bothers him anymore. He is not like most mini's.. with their in your face attitude and is not flighty at all, his ground manners are very good... so I am not too worried about him. I am used to being around big horses and I pretty much have made him act like one. He is like being around an old, QH, gelding. Sometimes I wish he had a little more energy when I am out driving him.. he gets that floppy eared, old, cart horse thing going on :) Also, can feed and water him without entering his pen. The goats, on the other hand, are pretty active and always want to include us in the fun. I have to carry hay through their pen to get to their feeder inside the barn... but they are older and a bit arthritic, like me, except for the one youngster. So.. we shall see how it goes. I don't really expect any problems and I feel I could be doing all my chores now, but my husband does not want me to. I think I am much more concerned with our slush that is about to turn to ice!!

Gosh, a mini Without Attitude must be like a day without sunshine...my opinion of them is that they are pretty useless unless one drives, but I love ponies (nothing but attitude, there) and I tend to think of a mini as being a concentrated pony so am open to getting a mini IF I ever need one to be a companion to a riding horse OR if I ever learn to drive. Still thinking a hyperbike would absolutely be the bomb.

A few miles from me there is a huge, I mean huge property-- hundreds and hundreds of acres populated with some jackasses, llamas, and a big herd of completely feral acting mini-horses. One tiny, tiny and very nicely conformed little guy there will whinny and charge up to the fence when my buddy and I ride by. He always lets my mare know he thinks she's Pretty. (He'd need a step ladder to do the deed with her even if she was willing). He's so cute I'd take him home in a heartbeat just for his conviction that He is It. We joke a lot about the Land of the Minis. They are woefully neglected but in many ways living as large as minis can.

Goats now--in my limited experience young goats are incorrigible practical jokers so Be Careful.

I can let almost anyone drive my mini cause he is so quiet. I show him a good bit and we always do bad at mini shows cause he has no animation. But we do pretty well at combined driving events....except we go a little slow and everyone wants him to go faster. I spent many years slowing him down as he was started as chariot racing horse. So slower and safer is fine with me. There is driven dressage clinic coming up in April and I think I am gonna have to just go watch and not try to load up everything and have him ready to go.....those hyperbikes look pretty cool...I have not seen one in person yet. Just being in the two wheeled cart actually feels a lot like the riding motions, but I do miss having a riding horse. But, only one equine foe me now and Obie fits in really well.

I got the best medicine this past weekend! I got to go to the barn and spend time with my animals.. I even got to feed on Sunday! It was so nice to spend time with them. They were all very good. I was wearing a brace as my OS thought it would help my soft tissues if I did get knocked around and the goats were pulling on the velcro a bit, but other than that they were very careful. The horse was just fine and I went in and gave him some lovin and he just stood there... probably rolling his eyes at me. I went to PT today and she said I was at 140... yes, not a typo, 140! She said she thought my surgery knee looked much better than my gnarly non-surgical knee! I was pretty happy with that!! I am still having the ever present, hard to get comfortable for sleeping thing... but at least now I can get myself in and out of a hot bath before bed which always helps me to sleep. I had a really rough first week and then after that I made slow progress till the staples came out.. after the staples were out my progress has gone forward with leaps and bounds. I am still short of one month post-surgery. So, for all your guys in your first weeks.. there is light at the end of the tunnel... just keep elevating, icing and resting.. and we you start to do a little more.. increase slowly.

Congratulations on the 140 rom and so early too .
I have to find some buddies for my one lone duck I am so worried about him in this weather . I have the tree goats have had as many as 14. We fostered a pig for shelter . I wanted a donkey . But with Loco our hands are full . He has the barn about torn apart again . We have repaired it several times .

@Pjmc I am guessing that Loco has horns.....goats can damage a lot of stuff if they have their horns to help.

@hbacres Next time you are in GA stop by my place and you can ride Sadie (the racking mare who is very very careful with anyone who rides her) and then the next time I am in Idaho will you please teach me to drive? Deal?

Back on topic--HOORAY for 140!!! I have no idea what my ROM is on the operated knee but it is obviously not as good as the other knee. Doubt that either one is as good as 140--you go, girl!
