Wow, what a story Catlady!
Yes I have dysplasia but in both hips. The right is worse than the left so might be able to get away with not having the left one done!? It is however giving me increasing pain but we are not sure if this is from the extra weight bearing (it doesn't feel like it tbh!).
I've had it since I was born but they only found it in July! I've had pain on off for about 10 years and then had horrendous pain in February that they believe was a tear and that's how it al began!
Such a shame you are all the way over the lake as I am in the uk!? :(
Will be lovely to stay in touch

RTHR scheduled for Jan 11. Had first replacement surgery in Jan 2013. I did remarkable with my first surgery. Praying for the same results from this one. Sleep, constipation and patience were my worst enemies!

I'm on for January 4th. Originally met with OS this summer and scheduled a bilateral for the fall. I postponed for various reasons. When I met with him again recently for the January date, he strongly urged me to do one hip, then the other 3 weeks later instead of bilateral. I was so disappointed! He said "recent national (U.S.) data showed an increase risk of infection with bilateral". Whatever. I do trust him and have let go of doing it all in one shot. Cheers to all the January Jackpots!

@Readysetgo -- You'll have to keep us updated with your recovery progress. You're one day ahead of me. We'll have to share recovery stories. -Sheryl

Well I guess I'm in this group, having right hip replacement on January 25, 2016. I like the way you started the post, saying it's a new year and a new beginning - that's a wonderful way of looking at it! I've had my spine fused and have chronic pain so I'm pretty terrified. I'm curious about people who have and both hips replaced. Was it the same issue with each hip that caused it to be replaced ? And was the surgery done by the same physician? Was the outcome the same? The reason I'm asking is because both of my knees are bad and I know I will need knee surgery - don't know if I will need a replacement though. I think if my hip surgery doesn't meet my expectations with the surgeon, he certainly will not be doing my knee surgery, even though they are two different "animals". I just hate the idea of having to start over looking for another surgeon, if the hip doesn't turn out as well as I want. Many double hitters out here?

Morning, glad to have discovered this amazing group! I'm awaiting a THR date in January!
Have so much to learn from all these posts and am already so grateful for the time , care and throughtfullness you all share. In tremendous pain and maybe waited too lon, but things took such a drastic turn for the
Worse in just the past few weeks.
Here's to a different kind of no of holiday season for me, and hopefully on the way to a much better one next year this time!

I am scheduled for surgery on 1/25, but only for one hip. I'm looking for a surgeon in my area, NE-NCentral Florida, that has experience with doing two hips at the same time, as that is what I would prefer. Closest I've come is a surgeon who will do the first, keep me in the hospital for 5-7 days, then do the 2nd hip. Not crazy about that much time in the hospital.

33 More days! First pre-op with surgeon on January 6th also pre-op class at hospital same day; I expect (hope) to come away from these with more knowledge and expectations. These forums both pre op/post op are very helpful and I am absorbing alot of information here.
Thank you to all who are so generous with your experiences!

@geneva, as soon as you have a date, I will put you on the January surgery list!
My surgery date is now 1/13/16 , and have a lot of prior questions to ask all those who have gone before me...What a great forum! Thanks....winning the jackpot means a post recovery trip to Tahiti right ?
