Having TKR on October 6th, it will actually be my second Total knee replacement, so a little nervous, but basically know what to expect. But have been warned no Two knees are alike as far as recovery goes. I had a really good outcome with the first one, so am hoping for the same with the second one!

I am going to see the surgeon next week. Not sure how long it takes until they can do the surgery. I am feeling many emotions right now but know I need both knees fixed asap.

@FL Carol .....I understand the emotional journey associated with this. It can be very frightening and overwhelming. Remember your not alone. Sending heartfelt thoughts.

Am scheduled for total left knee replacement on October 19 and I'm terrified! Am a doubles tennis player and want to continue to play afterward. I know the recovery will be around months but still scared.

@shellyglaze, is it your second because it is your other knee or because the first one is deteriorating?

no unfortunately have TWO bad knees, had my right done in 2012 and am now doing the other knee since it is bone on bone and causing me all kind of pain.

will be nice to have some people to talk to about recovery and how everyone is doing. Having my second knee done, but still a little nervous. Only 5 1/2 weeks away.....:yikes:

Oh, either way it stinks. I am having a bilateral as they are both bone on bone and although the left one is the one that makes it impossible for me to _____ (fill in the blanks, buddies!) I know the other one will be needed very soon. I'm so glad this forum exists as I suddenly am obsessed with reading about TKRs!

Guess i don't know what a bilateral is.... i am assuming it is still a major surgery? I am a year and a half with the new knee and absolutely love it. No pain, it is amazing, before i could barely walk between the two of them, ha! now excited to get the other one done and get my life back! so tired of having the excuse that i can't do this or i can't walk that far, etc... Nervous, but ready!

Hi there everyone! This seems like a great bunch of people! My RTKR is scheduled for October 12th...unfortunately, I don't do well with surgery...so, I'm already nervous and anxious...:scaredycat::sos:

@ReiRei fill us in!
what do you mean you don't do well with surgery? Anxious and nervous i totally get! I have been scheduled for 10/7 for almost a month now and all I can think about is getting my knees replaced. I have to remind myself to use the power of positive thinking and visualize the most excellent outcomes to help with my jitters. somehow, I feel you might have something else going on?

@nomoreski I have this issue with anaesthesia I guess...I go down swinging and kicking trying to get off the table even trying to take out IVs...I have this issue winot NoT being in control of what's going on with my body. I don't like being under the influence of drugs...so, unfortunately,this makes surgery even more nerve wracking and anxious ordeal for me...:beg::shocked: I try to remind myself that afterwards I will be able to get back to moving around better and hopefully enjoying things instead of being laid up in pain...

@ReiRei - I think that is a something! Is it fair to guess that you have let your anesthesiologists know this? Depending on how long ago your last surgery was, there may be better techinques. Certainly speak with your anesthesiologists at your pre-op testing visit. (i have to specifically ask to speak with them at mine). have you tried any mind/body techniques, meditation, visualization ... even hypnosis?
Has anything helped? Are you doing anything to alleviate your current anxiety?
