Hey Cowchick,
Welcome. Im just like you. Apprehensive about my tkr. February10 is my day. However since joining bonesmart in November ive become confidant and at ease with the surgery. Everyone here is or has experienced your pain and fears. Ive read soo much from this website it will be impossible to have any surprises. I have faith in my OS and confidence in my preparation. Ive read great threads and some not so great. Seems to me the ones that were bonesmarties prior to surgery have more success. It may not factual but it certainly appears that way to me. Tkr is a major surgery and is wont be a picnic but being forwarned is being forarmed ! Immerse yourself in bonesmart! Best of luck.

Lisa, you're now part of a huge BoneSmart family of folks who know exactly how you feel. We're here to help and support you! Why don't you start a thread of your own in the Pre-op forum and tell us more about your fears. We'll address each one and get you in a more calm state of mind. Information is key to feeling more confident about this very important decision you've made.

I have brought forward this month's list so that you can easily see who your surgical buddies are.

Welcome to our latest and all February Valentines!

I am having double knee replacement February 10th.....

My revision TLK is scheduled for February 24, 2014

Lori in Minnesota

My TKR surgery is scheduled for February 12. I have had both hips replaced and got an infection in the second one which required 4 more surgeries and 2 1/2 years to make right. Because of this experience, I waited too long to address my knees. We will do the right one first and see how it goes, and then do the left one next year if all goes well. My surgery will be in St. Paul, MN. Thanks for letting me join this group. I am looking forward to reading about your experience and sharing mine.

Welcome to bonesmart !! You couldnt have joined a better forum. Congratulations on setting your appointment for a new knee. You will have plenty of time to STUDY. Introduce yourself on the pre op forum . Start your own thread so people can introduce themselves to you and answer any question you have. As you can see our February surgery list is growing. You will notice alot of apprehension among some of the newbies . That will pass after a few weeks once they understand the bonesmart way. Sorry to hear about your hip experience. Thats too bad. When did you find out about bonesmart ? Anyways someone will put you on the February list very shortly. In the meantime read read read !

Welcome, Mimi!!! I suggest you start a thread of your own in the Pre-op forum and tell us more about yourself. We love getting to know our members better!

Thanks for the welcome! Looks like we will be having our surgeries the same week if I'm reading it right. I am looking forward to having others to talk to as I go thru this process. I felt so alone when I had problems with my left hip infection, and felt like my Dr. didn't "hear" me when I told him it was still not right. After surgeon #1 did the first 3 surgeries he decided I was healed & declared me well! after a year of continual pain and instability, I found a second surgeon who listened to me and did the appropriate tests and found the prosthesis was loose and didn't fit well in the femur. So another surgery in Dec. 2011 to fix it, which was just as bad as another total replacement. Then infection in incision and another surgery to clean out wound a month later. Finally it healed and now I have no pain in either hip. However, now both my knees are beyond bad so am using the second surgeon from before and taking my chances on getting them fixed. I have both Rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis, so lots of reasons for my joints to be failing. I found Bonesmart in a Google search as I was looking for more info on the upcoming procedure. Oh, I also have Angina, so have that concern during my surgery as well.

I'm still trying to figure out how this forum works, so I think I started a thread, but I might have put it in the wrong place! I have to take the time to read all the instructions, I guess. Where will you be having your surgery? We will need to keep in touch with each other's progress because we will definitely be on the same track to recovery! Will you have help at home after your surgery? My hubby is retired so he takes care of me during recuperation. Only bad thing is that we live in a 4 level house with lots of stairs. I stay on the upper level ( BR, bath, office) the first few days after surgery so he brings meals, etc. There are 7 stairs to the kitchen level, so I do that level after 3-4 days. family room(big TV and some of my looms and yarn, etc) on the next level down from the kitchen, and then my full craft room is in the bsm't which I usually can't manage for a couple of weeks after surgery. Being I've had many surgeries, I have it down to a routine. LOL I do weaving, knitting, crocheting, sewing and need to build up my inventory this time of year so I have items to sell at summer and Fall Boutiques/craft sales. I also have a shop on Etsy.com. I never have to worry about being bored during recuperation! When I am totally recovered, I will be back to selling Real Estate as well. I have been a Realtor for 35 years, and still do a few sales a year.
