Hello.
Not sure if I can pin point it to one particular thing, but most nervous about my recovery time. I haven't really personally heard of horror stories, but it's hard to not be anxious. Went on Friday for my pre-operative assessment, and the first thing the anaesthetist said to me was that it is a very painful recovery. Glad he didn't candy coat it, but..... Yicks!!!!!!! Was also asked which way I may want to do this surgery. General anaesthetic, or sinal with a sedative. He gave me pros and cons but just not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It seems that the vast majority of people on here do not want a general anaesthetic and went with a sedative and spinal; you can look up anaesthetic on here and you can get the posts that talk about this. I wonder if the Dr. who said that to you ever had a knee replacement. Really 95% of the people on here do not say that it was extremely painful; there are a few number of people who do have trouble getting the pain under control. The biggest thing I learned here is that it is not supposed to be extremely painful when they do therapy; again there are lots of posts and asrticles on here which tell you the way it should be done where it is uncomfortable, but not painful. Many people have asked for a new therapist if the one you have hurts you; plus they say to time your pain meds, so you are loaded up when you go in for therapy

I have brought forward this month's list so that you can easily see who your surgical buddies are.
Welcome to our latest and all February Valentines!

Im happy to see that our group is getting a little bigger. I think it proves that we are "go getters". I think one mantra says " being forwarned is being forarmed". Looking forward to reading about your pre op concerns and post op recovery stories. Goodluck to all. And remember read the mantras thou

As it's getting nearer I'm getting a bit worried started hearing horror story's ( and every one has got one)!! My wife came home from the horses last night and said she had seen her friend who is 77 years old ,she has had ltkr and rtkr 3 weeks ago and is now walking around the house with no aid and can walk down the road with sticks..!!!! That's fantastic I said my wife told me to man up and get on with it.

Newbie here. So glad I found this site. I am scheduled Feb 6. Dr said I would go home the next day and be off work for 1 week lol how unrealistic is that. Having a r tkr not sure of my decision but will see what happens. Did I mention I am scared to death. Don't think I could do a spinal but my didn't take with my second c-section but my co worker states that is the only way to go.
I'm having rtkr on the 5th of February so one day before you I'm the same as it's getting near the time I'm getting a little worried but I've been talking to some people I no that have had it done one of my friends is a 77 year old lady and had both knees done the same day 3 weeks ago and is walking up and down her road already tough old bird I'm 46 and just want it done now. Best foxy.

Mc2006, welcome to the club! Read as much as you can from this forum. All the information will make you abit better prepared. You are in the right place. It is overwhelming at first but be committed to this website. You will shortly learn that its worth your time. I get my rtkr on February 10. Read the pre op stories and from the library. Look up the mantras if you can find them. Best of luck!

New to this site. Interesting! I am scheduled for February 10th. Right TKR. Nervous. I will be 53. I had a perfect knee until 2 years ago. Basketball injury.. ACL etc. now bone on bone and unstable. I am a neurosurgeon.....NOT an orthopedic. I am nervous about being off work and when I can return to my usual schedule (70-80 hours/week ). Some days of 14-16 hours of surgery. I am not always the best patient, but I have promised my wife and myself that I will do whatever it takes to be compliant. I look forward to following with the other February knee patients. We are all in this together. Thanks

raindoc, welcome to the site, I'm having rtkr on the 5th of February not long now I'm bone on bone right lateral compartment collapsed can be very painful so bring it on good luck. Foxy

@braindoc do start a thread of your own so we can give you the advice you require. We have heaps of it!

Hi,
My name is Lisa. I am 52 and will have a Right TKR on Feb. 18th. I waited to long to get this TKR. I can only walk very short distances with a cane and I can't get the pain under control with pain meds. I am scared to death of the surgery but at the same time I can't wait till I get it. I have always been very active and now I can't even do my house work. I am praying that after I get the surgery I will be able to be active again. Has anyone here had this surgery before. I would like to know what to expect.

Gods Blessings On You,
Lisa
