Rac:
I have enjoyed reading your story. I always liked the saying 'stumble forward' -not literally. My question is we're you 100% weight bearing right after surgery? I did lots of exercise in prep for surgery. Doc said my femur was soft put me on 50% weight bearing for six weeks. Looking for someone that had the same.

Duffer71, I was placed on 20% weight bearing for 6 weeks by my OS. I had an uncemented implant, and this was his protocol. I got tired of the walker---it was always in the way---and I'm sure I put more than 20% weight on my leg---20% isn't much, so it really works on your arms and shoulders. Then I was put on a cane for 2 weeks---and then I moved on to walking with no aids.

I had no problems at 8 weeks walking on my own. I had never allowed myself to limp all the years that I was in pain; so after the surgery, I was able to walk with a normal gait.

Take care and keep us posted. We care.

Thanks. I am going to try using one crutch. I hope it works, if my energy holds. Did you give crutches a try?

[Bonesmart.org] 12 week period No, Duffer, crutches were never mentioned to me. It seems that in the area I'm in the walker is the aid of first choice and then the cane. Same when I had my knees replaced.

BTW, would you please put your surgery date in your signature, as well as what surgery you had (i.e., LTKR, RTHR) like the rest of us do? You can find the instructions here: How to create a signature. But please also remember that our membership is international and for clarity use the International Date system being Jan. 10, 2013 or 10 Jan. 2013 rather than 1/10/13 or 10/1/13. Thanks so much for your cooperation.
