So - nothing unravelled and your leg didn't drop off then? Brave boy. Not sure I would have risked it. :th_heehee:

One more little triumph on the long road to full recovery.

Well done!

What I found, Roger, which is brilliant, is that the strings can be used to adjust my leg length. pulling the top one shortens the leg...the bottom one lengthens it...

I sure wish I had pulled on them sooner!!! :loll:

Well you are a brave one. Well done!

I need an adjustment like that, tilting my pelvis is for the birds, every muscle within a foot of my pelvis is aching now.

Dr. Z,

Another thanks for the laugh, I think we all can use one! Take care.

John,

I agree with you...I've got some angry muscles as they adjust to the leg length.

My PT team is taking a very passive approach to the LLD. I asked what they would do and they more or less said nothing aggressive. They will give me standard exercises and I will use it in standard ways and over time the adjustment happens. They feel that attempting to rush the transition, given that my pelvis and spine is involved, is a bad idea...and they prefer it to be very gradual.

BTW folks...regarding the string in my incision that I should have been using to adjust the LLD...the clue was in this title of this this post all along...

How could we have been so blind.....

:hysterical: I thought that was just a filament of my imagination. But of cords, I should have known better - this is after all Z's string.

OUCH!!!

Deb, I was not aware that you were afflicted wtih the dreaded pun-itis.

We may want to ask the mods if there is anything that you can do at home for that....

:wink1:

Z

Wow, you guys are out of control -- did you get back into the "happy juice??" :rolleyespink:

Z I think that your PT crew is right-on about the LLD and going with the standard exercises and letting your body adjust. If you give it time your spine & pelvis will shift. Sounds like your angry leg muscles are doing their adjusting as well.

Remember to get plenty of "rest" time in with your exercise time so that everything is able to continue to heal and adjust without going berserk and shutting you down... You are working towards your "new normal." :thumb:

...and I'm jealous of the LLD adjusting thread that you got installed, that would be quite handy for me right now... :th_heehee:

Take care,
Cardie

Z, patience is the hardest part of recovery I have found. But, try as you might, time is the ONLY thing that will resove the LLD and you are still so early out of surgery. I think you will be pleasantly surprised in the end...

That being said, 6 months to a year!

Yup I've been so afflicted for a long time, Z :th_heehee: Got a weird brain "tic" that just sees puns where ever they may lurk.

But pain and LLD problems are no laughing matters - I sure hope you and your PT can get this resolved soon. My OS warned me there "might" be so initial LLD after my surgery - but he did such a great job of making my legs the same length I have been very fortunate to not have these problems. While it felt a bit "weird" at first to stand straight without pain and walk easily now it just feels normal and wonderful. At first my PT thought I might have some pelvic tilt going on - but that appears to have just been me getting use to being able to stand up straight. LOL several friends have said it appears that I have grown an inch or so in height since my surgery.

Deb,

If I need a lift in my left shoe to feel "level" I'll do that...but not for awhile. Some folks have asked if I would get the other hip done sooner to level me out... :hate-shocked:

I don't know about you, but some $45 inserts seem like they would be way easier, cheaper, and less prone to requiring a catheter than a not wholly required hip replacement. Right now, my right hip does not stop me from doing anything I want to do, so this will play out and I will deal with it.

ANNND, I have the impression that the 1/2 inch dif that seems so pronounced when standing at the sink, will be a non-issue when I run (especially on trails). In that situation one foot LEAVES THE GROUND, and then a fraction of a second later the OTHER FOOT LANDS some 2 yards (meters) down the trail. That 1/2 inch difference is a total non-issue.

My point is...this is not something that I will need to "deal with" when being active....it is actually the most noticeable and annoying when "standing at attention...

Right?

Z

Z,
Love your posts.....they always bring a laugh:hysterical: give it a little more time to strengthen.......I swore to my OS and PT that my leg was off by at least an inch......they kept telling me "give it a chance to heal and strengthen" and guess what.....they were right! Once those muscles have gotten back all their strength, any discrepancy might not be noticeable:)
Great point about the running and keep us laughing!
Dee

Thanks Z
I love your humor and needed the laugh. :hysterical:
My surgeon told me too that he could even my leg length out when he does my right hip. Told him, not for a while as long as the shots work I will be ok.
You are doing great with all your exercises. Wow, taking two steps at a time.

I am going for a walk now, snowing or not.
Bea

Bea,

I'm guessing if you never went out in the snow in parts of Idaho...you'd never go out for lots of months of the year.

I will say that the piece of my exercise regimen that I fail miserably at...is long walks. I am up and down all day....grocery stores...stairs by the batches. But to take 20-30 minutes and get that commitment to walking...just does not happen very often. MY surgeon is not that big on it...but I have to make the time.

Part of me thinks that would help to gently/slowly work the LLD as well as anything...

T o m o r r o w ....
