Have a wonderful time Gene! It sounds like a fantastic ride. I will be thinking of you and enjoy every minute of it.

Have fun, Gene. It's okay not to take a laptop. But I sure hope you take a camera so we can have some photos of you to post on BoneSmart!!!

Have a great trip Gene! Pictures please?

Thanks guys, enjoy your "rides" as well. Whatever form they take.
Be back in a week with a report.

Missing you already!

Yep---I would forget about the laptop---just ride and enjoy and let everything be therapeutic---it will be a marvelous psychological release for you!

I can't wait for the pics and the big grin that will be plastered on your face. Lucky you to have this trip as an ultimate goal and to take your knee out for a proper ride.

No laptop, but the in has WiFi and I have my iPhone so here I am.

Visited fort Ticonderoga on saturday. Very nice presentation of the Fort's history in the 18th century. Did considerable walking and climbing stairs. TKR knee performed well left knee, not so much.

Sunday met up with tour guides and other guests. Set up bikes and did short 5 mile ride around Middlebury Vt.

Monday, the 4th. This state is not flat. "rolling hills" resulted in me walking several steep "short" sections. My reconditioned cardio system was the problem, not the knees. Got to "snack stop" at 12 and decided to call it a day for BigGene.

Got in the van and allow body to adjust.

Tomorrow is a 41 mile ride with " Rolling"
Again. I will work out something around 15 that eliminated the worst of the hills.

My left knee is sore/stiff tonight. My TKR knee is a little stiff but has not swelled and is better than pre-surgery.

The tour and guests are first rate. Glad I did this even though I am at twelve weeks.

Hey---enjoy it! See what you can do and not do---have fun---this isn't the Bataan Death March---just enjoy your new knee and take in the sights! Remember what Falstaff said in Shakespeare's Henry the IV,Part I"

"Discretion is the better part of valor."

The cardio will come back! Enjoy the ride and the time that you are having!

Well done Gene! You don't need to be a hero. But what a great experience! Enjoy!

Gene I think this is awesome. I am so glad for you in all you have accomplished. What a great example. Thank you. Enjoy the rest of your trip and summer.

Day 4 Vermont bike trip. Changed from road bike to hybrid for lower gears. Road 17 today. Rolling hills and headwind. Keeping Milage down, listening to my body. Reconditioning and stamina are bigger issues than knees

Changed from road bike to hybrid for lower gears.

Gene, you are doing a tremendous job riding the rollers and doing so on consecutive days. :yay: Lower gears makes for happier knees and I hope you are able to enjoy your rides even more now that you've switched bikes. Since you've lost weight, have the hills become a little easier to climb? Thanks for keeping us posted and you certainly qualify as the poster boy for TKA and touring.

Day 5- temps down under 80 today. Sunny and beautiful. Rode 15, got in the van and shuttled to the lunch stop.

Took a nap in the van and then finished the last 8 miles. 23 total with easy rollers and a couple short walks up the steep ones.

My longest ride since TKA.
Yes, the 50 lbs I lost made a big difference. The next 50 and maybe I won't have to walk.

Left knee has been stiff (scheduled for LTKR 9/20) have resorted to pet Oder at night.

Tomorrow is last day and it is back to more challenging terrain. My plan is to let today be my last ride on the tour. Finish strong with positive experience

My new right knee has been good enough.

The left knee is jealous.

What a great way to celebrate your new knee! You have accomplished much, and, when the other new knee "arrives", I have no doubts that the zeal to expand your horizons and to enjoy your activities will continue.
