Will new knees be good enough?

Gene you are an All Star BoneSmartie!!! Good for you for addressing a concern right away. Although what you're experiencing is a normal part of some recoveries, doing the things you can to alleviate the pain will help you in the long run.

I'm so happy to hear of your weight loss too!!! Man, you got it goin'!!! Keep up the great work.

Wow, I am so impressed with your attitude and your perseverance Big Gene. Way to go!!! I am very envious of the weight loss part. That has been a very big problem for me from childhood on. Taking it off is tough, and making long term changes that you can live with to keep it off is so important. I just know that your positive attitude is going to get you there for sure. I am so very happy for you. Keep up the great progress!!

NewGene, you are doing a fantastic job in your recovery. I can't wait to hear your ride report when you do your bike tour.

Congratulations on your weight loss and your awesome recovery so far!
Your knees are certainly "good enough" aren't they?
Sandy

Thanks to all for your support and kind comments on my weight loss. I am now at 286 and 47 lbs down since surgery.

Today I rode 19 miles on my bike after riding 17 miles yesterday. I feel good and hope to ride again tomorrow.

This is the first time I have been comfortable riding two days in a row.

Yes, Trainwreck, my new knew will be good enough.

My left knee is scheduled for September as my journey for two good knees will continue.

Gene you are truly an inspiration to everyone. Well done on all your successes.

I remember your first post - :wow2: you have come a long way!

I'm jealous - I've only lost 25lbs since beginning of March

Josephine,
There is no "only" when it omes to weight loss.
In many ways slower is better, it is more likely to result in long term changes in eating habits that support weight maintanance.

But you alraedy know that.

I'm down 5 pounds. I am not terribly overweight, and the weight came off due to stress. Gene is right, any weight off is good weight off.

Sandy

I have lost 10 pounds so far. I think there are times I have lost my desire to eat with the pain involved. Also they had gravy on everything in the hospital and rehab, that really got me started with losing my desire to eat. I am trying hard to not "find" those 10 pounds but lose more. It will all help out. I admire those who really stick to this.

Good for you, Ann!!!

I am home from work and packing for my bike tour in Vermont with VBT Tours. I leave Friday and will stop to visit my Mom in Philly and then another stop Saturday to Tour Fort Ticonderga on my own.

I can't believe it is here. I booked and paid in full for this trip at week four post surgery.

I know what you are thinking and the answer is NO! I was no longer on drugs.

But meds or not I needed a goal to shoot for amd motivate me through the early recovery period.

I did take out trip insurance which allowed recovery for a pre-existing medical issue with a Doctors note. So there was a safety valve if things did not work out.

Yhe actual bike tour starts Sunday, 6 days of cycling and staying in Inns in Vermont on or near Lake Champlain. The trip is fully supported by a van that will pick you up if I tire or need to shorted a ride.

My goal is to ride daily, if possible, distances of 15 to 30 miles. There is one ride of 39, but I suspect I will not try that.

It is still hard to believe that 11 weeks ago I was using a walker!!!

We all heal differently and I am thankful for my very speedy recovery. But whether fast or slow we all get to a much better place post TKR.

And as this thread started with a question the answer continues to get closer and closer to

YES! MY NEW KNEES WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH and knee number 1 might already be there.

I will repot after the trip, I am not taking my laptop.

Gene, I know you are stoked and ready to roll! You will be a wonderful walking advertisement for TKA and I hope others will become inspired by your success. Good luck, rest often, ice more.

Enjoy the trip Gene - well deserved. I was working up there today - Charlotte, VT and Ferrisburg. Lots of bikers out and cars with bike racks loaded. It was one of those great summer days in the mid-70's, low humidity, no wind - perfect riding weather. Was I wishing I was riding instead of walking and talking on dairy farms? Yes. However, I got my riding fix early in the moring before I left home, doing my 20-mile time check ride around Cossyuna Lake and set a new post BTKR record of 17.6 MPH. It was a great day. I know you will enjoy your riding and the views of the ADK and White Mountains.
