Boy, Gene....so happy to hear they let you breathe during the test!!!:th_heehee:

Cardiologist just called, all is good. No blockages, :yes 4:clearance sent to OS:dancy:

That's a big step. Now I've got Thursday - Oral Surgery and then hopefully get cleared by Dentist.

TKR is feeling closer.

The clearance was even worth the shoulder pain and the treadmill stress rest even it I wasn't allowed to breath during the test.:what:

25 days and counting.

Oral surgery done this morning. Quite an ordeal....but it is now behind me:yes 4:. Got pain meds for when I need them and most importantly I have penicilin to clear the risk of infection.

In the great sceme of things I have now resolved an issue that has been haunting me and I've been playing ostrich about.

Onward to TKR phase 1.:yay:

Great news, Gene!!!! That magic day is getting closer and closer. Bring on the Good Life!!

Well let's see Gene,

That means 9 days and counting for my cruise
and 26 days and counting towards a new life!

You and I will both be happy that we are on the road to wellness!

Good for you GENE, several steps closer! You are doing great. Soon you will be there. It is looking better all the time for you. :THUMB::biggrin:

I am now 4 days post oral surgery and doing well. Eating is a challenge and some soreness but it will get me where I need to go.

21 days and counting!!! :yay:

Well, you've certainly earned your stripes for this surgery after going through all that!

Hey---thinking about your bike in your avatar---I did a quick 21 miles this afternoon after school---I averaged about 15-16 mph. Knees are good enough---yours will be too!

Now that I seem to have past my pre-surgery ordeals.
I am already beginning to think about my next bike tour,....without pain.

A bit pre-mature, but...What the heck.

Hopes, goals, dreams, but no expectations and no timelines.

T minus 20 and counting. ( Jo, Is ther a smily riding a spaceship?)

Gene,

My husband and I have been talking about true vacations when I am no longer in pain! :WINK1:

p.s. Jamie this means without doctors!:th_heehee:

I am looking forward to living life again! I have been on the sidelines for too long because of these knees.

I will be going on the cruise in 6 days, and start my new life with new knee in 21 days!

Sonja,
It will be good to have you as role model, guide, and mentor as we begin our trip to an arthritis free future.

By the way I think you have got to be a Charter Member of Josephines BoneSmart Club.

Gene,

Thank you so much for the kind words! I am looking forward to our journey, and I know that we will both be successful! I will be here to support you in whatever way I can.

I can honestly say "I have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt!":hysterical:

Here you are, BigGene.....

Good idea, Sonja....vacations without doctors!!! What a concept!!

I had my knee replacement surgery a few days back on March 18, 2011 by Dr. Scott Marwin who did the surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. I stayed in the hospital until yesterday March 21, 2011. All in all the experience was not what I had expected because I did not know what to expect. The day after surgery was a very painful experience but this particular hospital is aware of this and they have a pain management staff including your nurse that stays on top of your meds.
The key to the rehab is to ensure that you spend as much time in a gym or at home working on your quadricep muscles and your upper body strength: arms, shoulders etc. These muscles especially the quads help immensely while you are hospitalized. Hope this helps.

I guess this is a question for the Smartie staff if you are willing to opine. (Or anyone else who wants to discuss)

Got a call, 30 min ago, from the PA for The OS. I am scheduled to see her for final pre-op next week. At my last pre-op they took swabs for a mersa check.

Good news - negative for Mersa:THUMB:, but...positive for some "rare" staph blah :hairpulling:.. blah:hairpulling:. Was directed to use the pre-surg soap and nasal ointment previously provided for the next three days. Then stop and redo three days prior to surgery.

PA said she will check on whether re-testing is needed at the appt next week.

Oh yeah, just finishing up a 7 day penicillin cycle given by oral surgeon after he had his fun.

Any thoughts, suggestions, concerns?:what: (Obviously, anything suggestive of little nasties make me verrrrrrry nervous):arghh:

T -18 and still counting (I hope) and ready for Blast - off.

Yes, look on the positive side and be glad it was found.
Ignorance might be bliss but it's a somewhat different matter in this case.
Do the stuff and you'll be hunky dory!
:WINK1:

Yes, don't worry, BigGene. That's why these tests are done....so that action to PREVENT a problem can be done rather than risk having to deal with something afterwards. You're going to be just fine.
