Hi Kevin

I have had my right hip replaced and have not regreted it for one moment still do all the usual jobs, painting, cutting the grass, taking tiles off the walls in the bathroom, when I done my extension which started in Feb last year was starting to help fill the skips end of may and various others.
It will take time Kevin but you are in a job were you will be paid while off ill, take advantage of it and get those hips done.
I am off next Monday to get my left done and was back driving eight weeks into recovery with my right.
Do the sensible thing Kevin your hips won't get any better unfortunately.

Billy

Hi there...I'm not really sure if the longer I leave it the more chance there is of having to rely on a walking stick for the rest of my life. I'm presuming no and that the damage is already done. I'm just more concerned that although most people are fine and able to walk normal after the THR and recovery etc there is a small possibility that I may need a walking stick permanently. Being a Firefighter and wanting to return to work then a walking stick isn’t an option.

Thanks for the advice, Billy. Of course I know you are right. I suppose Im just putting it off and making excuses. I'm pretty sure now that when I see my consultant in a few weeks I'll be asking for the op. Now I've made my mind up I do feel a little better and more upbeat about the whole thing.

And I can tell you quite uncategorically, that you will NOT need a walking stick for the rest of your life! That is not the reason we do these operations.

For your interest, last week I had to see an employee from a major supermarket chain. He had his hip replaced earlier this year and is already back to work stacking shelves which is one of heaviest jobs! He told me he doesn't even think about his hip now as he totes crates of goods onto trolleys and then onto shelves! Said it doesn't even ache any more!

Thank you Josephine. Your advice is very reassuring. In fact everyone's comments having been very supportive. What you say Josephine is what I would normally expect. When your consultant is half way down the stairs it puts doubt in your mind and it makes you really think about things. I am usually a very optimistic person and to be perfectly honest still optimistic although it may not seem that way. Again the support has been very humbling and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has supprted me.
