TKR Webbie's saga

The summer after my TKR I went to my first MLB game since high school. It was one of my goals after the TKR. The walk wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be and I went again just a few months ago. Setting goals after recovering helped me think past the hours of being in the house. Have a great time!

Yesterday's game was a long outing but so worth it.

I am now driving which gives me a feeling of freedom!

Went to my first out patient PT and not impressed. Not sure how my bend will increase with the exercises I did today. Time will tell.

I went to my water aerobics class today just to be in the warm water. It was heavenly. My balance in the water was excellent. I went slow and didn't do any jumping around. I am looking forward to Wednesday class.

Yay! for fun outings!! Did your team win? What was unimpressive about PT? You didn't feel challenged or ? I am just starting and find it so interesting the different things people are doing.

Your bend will increase all on its own as your knee recovers and the swelling goes down. You don't need to do any exercises to make that happen.

Traveled for the holidays. The second leg of my trip started December 30. No cane the entire time!! I only got a ride in the the airport in Rhode Island. In Norfolk the concourse is pretty short so I walked it. Knee is still stiff but I can do stairs the normal way but slowly. I am hoping this is the beginning of "being normal" I still need strength in both legs. Lost 14 pounds and hoping to loose more. Good start to a new year.

I'm glad you managed the journey so well. That's good going, Kathy! :yay::happydance:

Now you're beginning to feel more "normal" do beware of doing too much and joining the ODIC! Until at least 6 months after my surgeries, i found that my reserves of energy were still low and i could only do one big thing a day.

6 month update!!!

Well, I am not where I want to be. The knee has 100% extension and a good 115 degree bend so I am happy with that. I can walk without a cane for my daily routine. I can walk up and down stairs but need to hold onto the rail.
Even though I can move the knee it still is stiff if that makes sense. I have returned to the pool and love it.

I can not stand the numbness that goes along the outside of the knee and down along the bottom of the knee in front. I feel the area "resisting" as I walk. I can't stand the clunking I get when walking.

I leave in 2 weeks for a family trip to Disney World. I was hoping to be walking around the parks with my grandchildren. Instead I will be using a motorized scooter. I just can't do all that walking.

OS says to give the knee 6-12 months. Let's hope the next 6 months bring me back closer to normal!

Another positive I am now 15 pounds lighter.

I found my knee got "tired" at six months. But by a year it was much better.

Hi @webbie73
I know you've heard this before and I know you probably don't want to hear it ever again, but at 6 months out you are only about half way to being fully recovered. :friends:

The next six months will bring small, but steady, improvements.

Meanwhile, it makes a lot of sense to do what you can to keep your knee happy - such as using the motorised scooter at Disney World. As you know, those Disney places are huge and they involve lots of walking. Your knee is going to appreciate that scooter!

That numbness at the side of your knee could fade - or not:

Likewise, the clunking and clicking:

My right knee, which is now 4 years old, still clunks from time to time, but it isn't doing it so frequently now. It doesn't hurt and I've go to kind of used to it.

Area around my c-section scar is still a little numb - after 32 years....and No muscle control

I would not mind if the numbness was just around the scar but it is causing a tightness where it is numb which is not around my scar. I "feel" my knee all the time. It feels like some big elastic bands around the area below the kneecap. I still have heat in the area too. Guess I will wait it out until August when I see the OS again.

My knee still felt warmer than the other knee for at least a year after its TKR. I guess it's a sign that healing is still going on inside. I think that the tightness is something similar. It should decrease slowly. Both my knees (4 years, and 18 months old) still feel tight first thing in the morning, or if I've been sitting for a long time. They soon loosen up after a few steps, though.
