So, it's almost 8 weeks. And I am progressing. At the beginning of my PT I had the sensation that there was a 'stop' in my hip. Today after doing my pool routine I felt a better range of motion, like the 'stop' had released. I was very pleased about that.
But, lest anyone think that my progress has been a steady high everyday, let me clarify. I may have a breakthrough and post about it, but there is plenty of range of motion work, and discomfort, and hard to fall asleep nights in between. Even tho I have 'ditched' the cane last week, this morning I was happy to have it help me start my day. And I'm slow getting out of a lounge chair as I get stiff from being still for too long. Stairs are still an issue going up. I don't use them often. I have really increased my activities but I have to be careful to rest -- lying down flat for 20-30 minutes helps so much!
Tomorrow I am supposed to drive 1 1/2 to 2 hours in downpours for Fathers Day and back. My dad is 90. If Tropical Storm Bill is too bad here I'll just have to stay home and eat the brownies myself. :happydance: My big focus is my Niece's wedding next month and I'll stay overnight at a hotel.
So the weather is absolutely beautiful today. The calm before the storm. A little socializing is in order tonite. Cheers!

I think in a month you will be much more ready for a wedding. It s amazing how much difference a month makes. Just don't overdo it beforehand. Can you stop every half hour on the drive to see your dad? Do a little stretch, some dirty dancing moves and continue on?
You are fortunate to have your dad alive still! My dad passed at 68! It seems so young to me now.
Have a good trip tomorrow!

Chortle I used to do the driving stop boogie when I did, special hush hush courier and be driving for hours. Did get a funny look from a passing police car. Safe journey.

You are doing well. I am right there with you. I don't use the cane all the time in the house but I do use it outside and in stores.

My knees are killing me and slowing my progress. I was doing so well on stairs. Now I drag myself up because of the knees.

I am afraid I am not going to meet one of my goals. In 3 weeks a national conference is coming to Providence. My husband and I have been very involved, he with the conference and me with the spousal program. After being all over the USA I get the chance to showcase my little state. I am bringing 56 people on a bus tour of Newport. I was hoping to be walking without a limp but not sure if that will happen.

I also have a walking tour of the historical section of Providence. Not sure how that will go either. I am only walking about a half mile now.

@wcgirl charging ahead, caneless and making big strides. Overdoing it and then paying the price sounds about par for the course (from what I read here!), and sitting too long is definitely bad. I still love my bed too! Did 'Bill' permit you to tuck into those Brownies?

Mighty big goals Kathy! I bet you can adjust them and manage just fine - they are just a plan after all, and flexibility is the name of the game that is keeping you young. Must be grotty to have the knees giving you such problems though - commiserations - and can you fix them?

Well I did have to turn around after sitting in traffic for 60 minutes and my 1st stop. Tropical Storm Bill wreaked havoc on the Fathers Day traffic. There were accidents along the route that I would be traveling. There are 3 brownies missing. Happy to be going to PT today.
ps I did try the 'bougie' but I guess I'm not quite ready for that… maybe at the wedding in 3 weeks.

Probably all for the best

WCgirl, TS Bill dump a lot of rain on the area. I am sorry you didn't get to see your dad. Hmm 3 brownies went missing? Wonder what happened? :heehee:

We both have upcoming events so we will keep on plugging along. I just got back from the pool and feel pretty good. Tomorrow is PT.

Had a little set back after moving into my summer room and a different bed. Amazing how just sleeping on a firmer bed gave me aches and pains! PT to the rescue. It's amazing how a shift in routine can cause such discomfort. Summer is here! Thunderstorms rolling through!

Hope you are feeling better. Doesn't take much to throw us off balance. Summer room sounds like fun. Cape Cod looks beautiful on TV. New England is on my bucket list. Hugs

There may be aches but good to take another step forward in normal life.

@sunbunny and @Legin only 3 uncomfortable nites and I'm broken in. HA I'm still forgetting about things that I couldn't do and just plowing ahead. Now that the tree pollen is finished I have been cleaning windows. I still can't pick up heavy stuff but I think it's time to let the youngun's take care of the heavy lifting anyway. I want to take care of my good hip! @webbie73 isn't it wonderful to be back in the pool. I'm hoping it'll whip me into shape for my busy summer ahead and help you be ready for your conference.

The pool was great today! I love going. My old hip leg has the bad knee and I can not get it over those darn orange cones. Today in the pool I was lifting that leg like nothing was wrong with it. I am about at 80% of my normal aerobics speed! Plus the weather has been nice for the most part. My windows also need washing. LOL not sure I want to tackle that job.

My cleaning girl had to cancel this week so I was washing toilets and changed our bed. We are slowly getting there. Today was my best hip day since surgery. Tomorrow is PT so we will see how that goes.

Big weekend coming up. As a local Cape Codder do you hide all weekend until all the tourist leave?

I think we are all getting that itch to move forward. I started cleaning windows yesterday and today I was able to drive my standard car -- I was hesitant to try. I did have some twinges last night around my incision. I guess things are getting 'in line'! Let's have a Happy & Safe 4th of July.

Normality creeps up on us. Mind you what my normal is.........

Window washing? I seem to remember my surgeon saying I would never be able to do that again - didn't he?

Great to get back to your usual car @wcgirl - but even driving our automatic, I can get overconfident (like my first meals on wheels this week) and hop in and out too fast, too unthinkingly - and then get a bit sore later. I suppose this is why those who are more experienced at this tell us that it is about a year till you really really 'forget' your new hip.

@wcgirl and @Great Aunt Janet
I can't seem to "hop in and out" of my car! I am sooooooo slow ~pushing the door open with my cane, moving the seat back, then sliding my legs to the side, then gripping the seat and dashboard and pushing up with my cane~ it is "driving" me crazy! Ugh!:bolt:

@Sullivand, you are still early in your recovery. I love your description of getting in and out of a car!! Very familiar. Don't worry you will get there.

@Sullivand I get the car visual. My goal was to drive my own little sports car not my hubbies tank. I did at about 5 weeks but yesterday I tried the casual one leg in and lower method....wtheck was I thinking? ???? I almost got stuck. Had to get out, regroup, look casual, not panic, sit down and do the two leg swivel with help from my arms to get the darn right leg into posotion. The groin is a killer for me still. Boooo. Not graceful but only a few folks saw. :nah:
