Nice to see you have a spring in your step. My new hip is doing a lot of work right now....had my knee replaced 3 weeks ago. UGH! Knees are horrible. I take back any complaining I did with my hip. LOL

I was happy to see your summer went well. Are you still doing the pool? lol inside pool I hope!

So today after reading about Giving Tuesday I decided it was my turn and donated to Bonesmart. It has been great to be able to chronicle my travels through the wonderful world of joint replacement. It's not for the faint of heart, but once I made that decision, it has been right for me. When I first started doing all my online research, one year before my surgery, I typed in 'forum' and came up with this wonderful site. I feel you have all held my hand through it all. My turn to give back. Thank you!

@wcgirl Many people don't realise what it takes to keep this resource available to our members. Generosity like yours helps to ensure we are able to "hold more hands" through the joint replacement journey. On behalf of everyone here at BoneSmart a big THANKS for your donation.

11 mos and counting! This past February and now March I am finally back in the groove and able to show my appreciation to so many wonderful family & friends who have helped in my recovery. My bonesmart family has been my go-to during sleepless nites when I would question every twinge and find answers immediately from fellow travelers through this amazing journey. I still have moments where I just need to lie down flat and remember that napping is good as our bodies heal when we sleep. I fell the other nite catching my sandal on the top riser on stairs at my brothers. Thot he'd have heart failure. He explained that his older neighbor had dislocated her hip replacement several times. We are so lucky to have the experiences of those others before us and improvement of procedures even as short a period of time as 3 years. So only a skinned knee I was able to bounce up quickly without a concern until I saw his face! How I had dreaded the thot of falling in the past! While keeping physically active I can still feel heeling in the soft tissues. I did read somewhere here that this healing process goes on continually so I keep up w exercise & good diet as best I can. Good to read updates from @Constanze @Granny Di @DebraR @webbie73 @sunbunny @Hipster Girl

Indeed, healing goes on well past the time when you start feeling "normal" again.

So glad you are getting back to living again @wcgirl !

@wcgirl -- That is such a positive post! It will give comfort and encouragement to anyone who reads it. It is so great to hear that you are doing so well and continuing to heal and get even better.
Congratulations!
Diane

So, here I am, one year Hippy. About this time I was on a gurney being wheel into my hospital room and then asked to stand and take 3 steps... Last nite I found a note that chronicled the 3rd morning after surgery in the hospital. It all seems so long ago.
'A bit of routine as I write things down. 6 am Woke a bit. Pee & breath thingy. Tylenol, exercise in bed. Oxygen low overnite. Nurse checked my bandage. Then walk to bathroom w help, the PT came to walk me around the hall. Had vitals & meds 7am breath after doctor visit. Chair exercises then breakfast at 8am. 8:15 breath again. Pain level #1 after walk, #4 before. 8:47am pee, wash on seat in bathroom. 9:10 shot for blood thinner, vitamin, fiber drink, bed exercises, nap until 11am. Passed gas hallelujah! 11:45 breath & Order lunch w pain med for chair exercise after lunch. All the time I'm feeling less stiffness & more alert. Vitals all the time just can't keep track of it all. Hope my rainbow hipsters of 27.4.2015 are doing well. Hugs!( '
I know all you new hippies will know what I mean about the 'breath thingy' HA!
Best Wishes to all the new hippies. Don't forget to keep a diary -- it'll help you with the meds keeping track of each pill you took and what time, and, yes, accept help. It's your turn now. Be patient with yourself through each step from walker, to crutches, to cane to freedom. The irritations are just that, they go away. The other day I was walking up stairs and realized that I don't have clicking in my surgery side knee anymore and my other knee doesn't hurt like it used to. I now know how I had been compensating for so long. Chin up!

Well it's a 2-year anniversary for me too. So glad to hear my fellow hipsters are doing so well. I have been playing golf regularly and back to some fun water activities like kayaking and snorkeling. @Granny Di and @Constanze are real role models for sure. I'm not the competitive type but I do love to keep active. I am an artist and can stand at an easel without pain like I used to, or sit on a rock or step for plein air (painting on location). While on a cruise ship I was amazed -- still -- at how easy it was for me to navigate lots of stairs without pain or clicking in my knees. Getting in and out of boats for kayaking and snorkeling are no longer a consideration.
I often wonder if I had issues because I was a breach baby, or the time that I jumped from my boat onto a cement floating dock, or helping carrying babies around when I was young, or if heavy duty yard work contributed to deterioration of my left hip. Or could it be a lack of vitamin or mineral or the flu or ... I think just a combination of life events. I am so glad that I was able to move forward. I'm glad that I went to that one doctor that said that I needed a hip replacement, and I couldn't believe him -- 'kill the messenger'! But he did make me start the process, the research, research, research (so much information on the internet to compare outcomes for doctors & hospitals), the networking (boy, did I tell everyone that I needed a new hip and the stories flowed), getting back to exercising & diet to prepare for surgery (I delayed for one year) and I found the best doctor in the best hospital that my insurance would cover, even though the distance was inconvenient. I had to step up and realize that I had to do this for myself as well as for my family. I feel blessed to live in a time when we have the technology and good outcome for joint replacements.

@Constanze, hello from fellow April 2015 hipster. Left THR. I'm in Italy on a tour with lots of walking and stairs. I think my right hip is suddenly ready for a replacement. I started mid-May with IT band syndrome as well as tight quadriceps which were my symptoms with the left hip.

I'm taking the day off with ice and rest at the hotel as I'm pretty lame. I had the flu this winter (even with latest flu shot) and was knocked down for about a month trying to keep up with my exercises. I have to say I'm a little disappointed but not surprised. I was able to get a 'shot' with good success but I think the increased walking on hard surfaces took its toll.

I'm so glad to see @Josephine is still here.

Saturday I just need to be able to get on the 2 flights back to the States without too much discomfort. I've got ice & Tylenol now. My left hip has been great & up til 2 weeks ago I was able to play golf and could walk a couple of miles at a time. I did start dancing this winter and perhaps changed things up and aggravated that right hip.

I was born breach and none of my 4 siblings have joint issues... so far. I often wondered if that might be to blame. My mum developed RA at the age of 80. I'm always interested to see how our April '15 hipsters are doing. I see you are still quite active on Bonesmart. This forum was such a huge help guiding me.

Best wishes to all. It's an amazing journey and worth the trip I'd have to say. Warm regards.

@wcgirl As you can see, I've moved your post into your own recovery thread because we are now a bit stricter about derailing other people's posts. You can tell if it's your thread or not because your posts will be coloured in a light blue!
