@Great Aunt Janet the incentive is to be able to drive. Havent seen my folks for a month. And then there is a wedding coming up in July... It sounds like you are doing well. Are you using crutches or cane?

Yes, great when you can finally be a bit independent and hit the road, I agree! I don't use any walking aids at the moment, but I am keeping crutches on standby, so I can use one for when I get up to a really long walk (keep meaning to get organised with Nordic stick, so I look like athlete!), because my muscles do get tired after about 30 minutes of walking and then I find it difficult to walk smoothly or like a supermodel, and I just return to lurching. No good! It is all a balance, isn't it - do plenty of walking but don't over do it! Gah.

By July, for the wedding, you will probably be off all aids too, or just use a handsome bystander

@wcgirl, I think @Great Aunt Janet...I luv she thinks....nope don't take any aids to the wedding, there may be a handsome bystander making himself quite available :roseshwr:

Good timing for you to have a fun event, the wedding and to be at the progressive chapter of 8-10 wks or so and driving again  and being with family !!

@Josephine i have awoken the last couple of mornings with the room spinning. Yesterday i wa fine after i moved around & had breakast. This morning im feeling a bit shaky but had gingerale, water & half a banana. I have a call into visiting nurse. I had general anethesia and surgery was apr 27. Is this common?

I should mention that i am not on meds except for tylenol as needed maybe 2 500mg a day. I have been more active and took my last bloodthinner shot 2 days ago. Im resting now... thank goodness my friend is here as my phone is out (service is here now) & may have missed calls but i have cell to call out. What a pickle!

I've had many episodes of being light-heading when movng around, but I'm on so many meds including opiates that who knows what is causing that. I did have full anesthesia.

I hope you figure it out so that you can get better. it's great that you're not on much pain med!

When I woke up dizzy yesterday I started on my Claritin allergy med. The nurse seemed to think it is allergies, and I had been in and outdoors the last two days. Even so, I was told that I should do ankle pumps before I get up and be slow. This morning I've had gaterade, banana & oatmeal and feeling better. I'm due for my allergy pill soon…
This recovery is a marathon. I'd hoped to go to the hairdressers but I'll stay put. I washed all the pollen out yesterday so I should be safe indoors. My overnight friend leaves tomorrow and I want to be clear to be alone for Mon & Tues mornings. I'll be in cautious mode Mon & Tues until my brother takes over. I've been getting along swimmingly before this.

As soon as you started talking about dizziness, I immediately wondered if you had General anesthesia. I had a GA with my first THR. It was one of the biggest reasons I couldn't go back to work when I wanted to. Dizzy spells and a huge energy drain whenever I excerted myself plagued me. This time with the spinal, I have none of that. The energy drain was minimal and no dizziness after the first week. Unfortuatly, the energy drain was a problem for almost 3 months the first time. Hope it gets better faster for you. I had posterior both times.

Hi @Midchild54 good to hear from you. Yes. I had GA. The dizzyness really coincided w the sudden burst of pollen here on Cape Cod. I am 4 wks out from surgery and this dizzy came out of the blue. Did you have it all along or suddenly later into your recovery? I am doing ankle pumps in case it's low blood pressure and got up and moved around. I took my 24hr Claritin and feel better but tired. Ill be up for lunch next. I'll keep it an easy day. Ive been feeling pretty good w one nap a day and maybe doing too much w fighting allergies. Thank you for sharing. Glad to see that things are working out for you after reading your updates earlier today. <3

I had the dizzy spells all along which tapered off as time went by. I don't know what to think if it's just starting with you.

Hi wcgirl

Sorry to hear your not having the best of times at the moment, you and mindchild appear to have things in common. I had spinals with my hip replacements and revision so haven't experianced what you are going through.
Fingers crossed that things improve shortly and your recovery is more manageable.

Billy

I reg have dizzy spells due to middle ear bal problem not sure if GA can bring it on. But I'm no medico.

If they persist I can give tips to deal with them

2nd Claritin day. I do sometimes get dizzy from allergies especially when I am outside on windy days and yesterday I was outdoors several times. May have been exacerbated by the fact that I may have overdone things with too much activity and should have paid more attention to the dreaded 'Energy Drain.' I'm dragging today so I'm just taking it easy and checking everyone at the door for pollen. ;-) So I'm indoors and reminiscing with a wonderful friend from school days. Keepin' it simple with Claritin, gatorade, ankle pumps, fruits and veggies and rest.

Windy equals fluctuations of pressure which affects middle ear where balance is. My middle ear is affected by several bouts of labrynthitus.

Sorry I took so long to reply, I took a day off yesterday. Short answer, if it had been within 48hrs of your surgery it might have been connected but otherwise no. However, it looks like you've figured it out now. Hope you're feeling better now.

No more vertigo thank goodness. The pollen is still swirling with winds again today. Graduated to a cane today and booked outpatient PT -- looking forward to getting into the pool there. OS appointment tomorrow w 2 hr drive, looking to get okay to drive.
Steady improvements every day. I'm finally able to sit in my lounge chair tho it's tiring if there's too much getting in and out and I really can't sit in it too long before i need to get up and move. Wearing my pedometer today. Finally got on the scale and I'm down 5lbs which is what I put on when I was sidelined.
