Vikki your recovery is a wonderful read and very inspiring. I particularly like how you break it down into what "you can do" and "you can't do".

Good luck with your ongoing recovery.

Good for you, Vikki! I was in London last week too. Wouldn't it be a hoot if we'd bumped into one another and didn't even know it!

Vikki....it's wonderful to read how well you are doing!!! I'm thrilled for you. It does sound like you are "over the hump" in recovery!! Do let us hear more from you now and then. We LOVE success stories.

Hi All, Its nice to keep in touch so I have been quickly glancing through posts and catching up.
I've been busy at work and revelling in being able to enjoy it. Students and collagues keep mentioning how I seem so much more cheerful and enthusiastic - not surprising considering the past few years of pain and disability. I had my oral examination for my PhD last week which I would have found dreadfully difficult pre-op, and it went OK, so almost there now.
I'm not sure if someone else has drawn attention to the article on the BBC about what I think is the anterior approach for hip replacements in Wrexham, Wales, UK? Of interest to us all I think, apologies if its been posted already. My husband sends me links he finds which he knows will interest me, so here you go.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17244435

ALso did anyone hear BBC Radio 2 on Monday or Tuesday late morning about people's experiences with hip replacements? The presenter drives me mad, but it was, again, of interest to those of us with THR or other replacements - maybe worth listening on iPlayer if you missed it?

I have now completed my physio - she is pleased with my level of mobility and I am still working on hip flexors and IT band stretches. ALso going to the gym - well not last week because of exam - but using exercise bike when I can't get there.
I have also been able to lose more weight and I think that should be SO important in OS decision to operate, as it takes strain off bad or good hip/knees etc and leads to more exercise etc.
I also love being able to wear high heels again. I asked that question pre-op and got loads of replies - inlcuding a few asking why I wanted to wear them anyway. 'Vanity' is the answer.
Anyway, to anyone asking themselves the same, YES you can. I wore them in the evening only at about 6 months post op without discomfort. I can now wear lowish ones - sort of medium boot heel, all day with only a little pull in my upper thigh now and then and no long lasting pains etc. I still prefer flats, but have the option now. I hadn't been able to wear any sort of heel for a year or so pre-op without back, thigh and foot pain on both sides.
I am off to the gym now, its sunny and spring is in the air, so making the most of it!
Best wishes to all of you, whether waiting for surgery or recovering.

Vikki

Vikki, you sound great. Thanks for the update. It's alway nice to hear a THR success story! Stop by again!

Great report, Vikki!!! So good to hear things are going well for you.

WOW Your recover is great. Hope you continue to be back in the world again Pain free. Have fun but do take care. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:dancy:

Hi Vikki

Lovely to hear from you and congrats on getting throughout the oral exam for your pHD.. What an achievement...

High heels as well.... I am so impressed

Lots of love

Vikki, your story is so encouraging- thank you for writing it and sharing with us. It sounds as if you are doing amazingly well. A good mental attitude is certainly the best thing to have. I am just realizing this 7 weeks after surgery as I went through the "post op blues" badly for a while but now even with a setback of tearing the scar tissue I am looking to a good future!

Thanks for the feedback. Your tear sounds nasty, and I am glad you're on the road to recovery now.

Just realised I missed the 8 month anniversary last Friday! Wow, where did those last few months go? I am still getting some muscular pains around both hips and lower back. Nothing major but I aggrevated it by forgetting I had a hip replacement and levering my heavy scooter up onto its stand with my right leg (the operated side). I've irritated the muscles that run around the hip and down the side/side front of my leg...but its OK, just annoying. Still going to the gym, but less often as work has crept back to take a lot of my time. I was meant to be there this lunchtime, but its raining and I was to hungry to go without eating first and now I want a snooze before starting work again at 2pm! Maybe I'll do soem floor exercises with the door closed.
:dev-godseesaw:

Time does fly, doesn't it!! Congratulations!!!

Congratulations on the 8 month anniversary Vikki :)

Do hope the irritated muscles settle soon..

Lovely to hear from you
