@Carriemay60 I really believe it has so much to do with where we started from. I work about 60 hours a week, care for a 7 yr old, plus a fairly active social life, time permitting. I stopped working out a while ago but I pretty much never sat down except at my desk. There's some muscle memory (for lack of a better term). This is my very unofficial unscientific amateur opinion, of course, lol!

@JennyLynne From what I have learned you are absolutely right. I have been on the down low for 5 years and that has taken it's toll. My op leg thigh is about 4.5 inches smaller than my good leg due to atrophy as well. I really don't mind my recovery taking a bit longer as long as it happens eventually. I did mentally prepare myself for a slower than average recovery.

@Carriemay60 before my knee surgeries, I had the same issue with my thigh! It came back, over time- but admittedly I did a lot of PT to work on quad strength. To be clear, that was before surgery. No strength training again until waaaaay after surgery...

Happy One Month!! You are doing great. How long did you have to wait before doing weight training after your TKR? I completely agree on the start point. I was in significantly better shape when I slipped and fell. Had no muscle memory problems. Sounds like knees take much longer too.

@Fit4Family I did PT immediately after both knee surgeries for about 6 weeks. Then I stopped for a couple months - went back to work and to my “normal” life. Once I felt I had that handled and felt pretty good, I started focusing on getting strength back. I’d say it was about 4 months post-op. That may still be too early for many, but I had a really good recovery from TKR.

Last night, I made my post-op social debut
Our swim and tennis club had its annual “tiki bar opening party”, which marks the official opening of the outdoor tennis season. It was a sunny warm evening and I just couldn’t resist joining in!

One benefit of crutches... you get prime seating, if only out of pity. I’ll take it!!!!

It was nice to reconnect with the outside world. Made me think I may even get back on the tennis court one day! I haven’t played in 10 years but I used to be quite a force out there. Feels like another lifetime!

@Hoppy Nanny "Fitness" make me laugh... I have so much weight to lose after the last 5 years and so much strength and flexibility to regain! I am ashamed at the weight gain - it's scary how quickly it came on!
But... BUT!!!... I finally feel I am looking forward and moving forward!

Heehee oh the memories :dancy: 6 months after my BTHR I went cross country to attend a school reunion .... and did a brief version of Rockettes style kick line with my 65yo class mates! Plus drove all over New England, danced, played with 3 energetic lab dogs, rode a horse (sort of, well, no it was a flying horse on Martha's Vineyard's indoor carousel), went swimming in the ocean, off roading with my brother, did more walking than I'd done for over 5 years and had a total BLAST! Your fitness will come with time :tennis2: :bicycle1: :swim: :walking:

Big personal goal met tonight... I made it to my son’s baseball game!!! Only lasted 4 innings because omg those bleachers are the worst, but I made it!

The walk from my car through the playground and school yard was not easy- all uneven grass and such. The walk back was worse, of course. But I’m home with an ice pack under each cheek and pretty pleased!

That will feel nice to get tidied up. Hopefully your stylist will keep moving with you and not leave you sitting too long.
