lol.. well.. i've added another pill to the 9pm cocktail, Temazepam 15mg (sleeping med). but, i still get up multiple times during the night to rearrange pillows so i can change sides or go back to the back. i think the pill makes it easier to get back to sleep. heating pad did help the back last night, or maybe the drugs... i've tried smearing Biofreeze (Menthol) and even got a script for the Lidocaine patches. neither works very well. ended up using the patches on the back. maybe helped a little bit. Dr will probably tell me next Thursday to go back to work. good for the $$ but sucks for the stress and BS... ah well.. the things we must do.

I'm happy to hear that you are doing so well. Your knees look great!

Hugs,
Denise

Denise .. thanks..
suppose to go back to work on the 16th i think. back to cranking up the ice and meds today, PT day.

now my left hip is making itself known. hopefully after this PT stuff, it will settle down and not be jealous of the new knee below it. haven't had much issues with either hip before. is this common?

Hi tori645, My left hip started complaining when I was waiting to get the left knee done. Its still twingey at times so I just give it a little ice too. It could be "bursitis". My right hip which was bad took a long time to get really bad and LH hasn't tried many of those tricks yet. I think we give our related not bad joints a lot of unbalanced treatment so they get sore. I will cross the bridge of my left hip when I'm done tottering across the bridge to a good left knee. Could drown.

westsea... just make sure it's a wide/long enough bridge. :)

i think doing the stationary bike might have irritated the left hip. forcing the peddle rotation with the self-preservation of lifting the left hip to give enough room to get around. it's not sore today.

had a funny thing happen today. tried the pool this afternoon. was playing catch with the dogs. i found a cushion flotation device for a boat and used that as a 'kick board'. started kicking and noticed something really strange. tried it again, same strange thing. i was going backwards. i kept getting closer to the stairs rather then going away from them. i wonder if the put the knees back together backwards?

I'm 1 month today and would be fine to be were you are at 2 months. Making slow progress up to 80 deg at PT yesterday. How is work?

work sucks... but not due to knees

knees are ok.. i'm a desk jockey.. get up and down a lot to go to copier/file cabinet. as the day goes on, it feels like another 1lb ankle weight gets strapped onto the knees.. by the end of the day.. feels like 5-8 extra pounds wrapped around them.. go to therapy 2x/week.. will see what dr says monday if i can continue.. hopefully... told someone at work today, my first wish would be to win the lottery(not picky powerball or fl lottery will do), 2nd would be able to get up off of anything at normal seat height (chairs, throne, etc) without having assistance of pushing off, grabbing bars/armrests. drugs can't do that for you. :(

went to OS today.. they took x-rays of knees.. all is still good in the 'films'. dr was pleased with my ROM's for 9 weeks into recovery. he said TKR could go to ROM of 125 and PKR could go to 130ish. he gave me a 'script for 12 more therapy visits, and one for the percocets, for the just in case times. i usually use one 5mg before therapy.. and now that i'm on Temazepam to help sleep, i haven't been taking the percocets. maybe switch evils? i dunno but it's nice to sleep through the night except when the puppy/older dogs want out.. luckily, the puppy can go up and down the outside stairs by herself now so they all can go out without me having to go down the stairs with them.

12 weeks into recovery from L TKR and R Partial (Patella). Been back at work for 3 weeks now (desk jockey). Knees are ok. Sitting most of the day they of course get stiff. Little walks around the building help. I tell people it's like having duct tape around the front half of your leg. Still have issues with weak quads getting out of chairs. i can't wait until they are strong enough to stand up without assistance. Therapy measured the ROMs today, L is at 122 and R is 125. According to what OS said last time i saw him, 125 should be the max to look for on the TKR and 130ish on the PKR. Almost there. I usually take the 5mg Percocet about 30 min before the start of therapy. the yuck stuff (flexing of the knees) comes about an hourish into therapy. My regular meds at night consist of Celebrex (more for arthritis issue in other parts but knees probably get some benefit), a mild muscle relaxer (tension related migraines), and Temazepam (sleep aid). Post therapy nights, i usually add in a 5mg Percocet. So, 2 nights a week with extra help.
gait isn't great, but not too bad. feel like an older tortoise compared to what i was. never was a speedy walker. curbs and steps still i am extremely weary of. if there's a grab rail, i'm not far from it if not holding it, specially going down.

Hey tori645 I'm a few weeks behind you for BTKR and just realized yesterday I prefer stepping up on the curb compared to going up or down a slanted side walk. Do you have any trouble with the angles? I am working part time and can split time between the office and home, but switched from 4 hours per day to 20 hours per week to try some longer days. Right now if I do a 6-8 hour day, I still really feel it the next day and have to back off a bit. Exhausted today after an hour commute to and from a meeting yesterday and 6 hours of phone conferences today. I can totally relate to the duct tape feeling - but it does seem to be lessening as my ROM improves. Keep posting your progress helps the rest of us see more of the light.

haven't had to many ramps to contend with. there's one at work, but it's shorter to go up the curb and one step to get in. considering i have 18 steps to go up and down to get to my place, a curb is nuttin'. i'm in the building for the most part from 7am to 5ish except the two therapy days i get out at 4 to have therapy from 4:30 to 6ish. today i stood at the filing cabinets for long periods of time. by the end of the day, i started getting a few 'needle sticking' sharp pains in in TKR so sat down the last 15 min of the day and took a percocet when i got home. it would be awsum if there was someway of dumping some wd-40/silicone into these things to get the stiffness out.

ah well.. hopefully with some time that will go away.

Just was looking at my surgeon's bill, there was a charge for Plasma Rich Platelet injection that the insurance company didn't cover "not proven effective".
Anyone else's surgeon use this?

ugh... had therapy today.. after all the normal warm up exercises, PT started his manipulations on LTKR.. instead of holding the flexion for 5 secs he did it for 12.. it's amazing how one can contort the body to get away from pain... it was not kick him in the teeth but it was sufficient for me to ask to let up and he did. he treated the LPKR to the same and again let up when asked. Left knee is ROM is now 122 and Right is 125.

still have the duct tape feeling and stiffness, guess time will take care of that, i hope sooner then later. still need to get quads stronger. getting out of office chair is the biggest issue to cope with in the 'normal' life.

Not looking forward to that next week! I start P/T on my newborn knee and I will protect her! :puppysmooze: I plan on telling him from day 1 that I don't want to take the approach we took with my right knee. I will also point out that my knee is only 4 weeks old and my ROM is much better than expected at this point. It's amazing after having an in-home P/T with a Bonesmart philosophy, how much courage you get. I hope I will maintain my Braveheart spirit next week when I go in to Big Boy P/T. :scary:

had therapy today. they have me do 'heal touches'. standing on one of those step-up exercise platforms(only one set of blocks), with one foot on platform bend that knee til the other foot's heel just touches floor, lift up and repeat. 3 sets of 15 on each leg. TKR knee (left) did just fine, PKR (right) started 'creaking' a ton every time i bent it and it was sore. Asked the PT if i should continue and he said just do TKR. rest of exercises were uneventful. PKR was more sore the TKR... :groan:... these bloody (not figuratively) things are so totally frustrating.

well.. in a few days it will be the 5 month anniversary. seems longer then that.

The Dr. is very pleased with his handy work. ROM on Left TKR is about 128 and Right PKR is 138. Walking is relatively normal gate. The biggest issue is change in elevation, ie: stairs/steps, some exercises in therapy.

1-2 months ago, i could go up and downstairs relatively pain free, not so now. the Partial is giving me the most pain, more so going down the stairs but still have it going up. Left TKR isn't anywhere near as painful. i used to be able to do the mini squats ('total gym' slide, squats with big ball against wall) with no pain. Not any more. Partial is creeking like an old hinge. i can only do about 20% of what i was able to do. Not sure why this happening but it's awfully frustrating. Called Dr's office today and left a msg. when i was in his office last week, he said 'ride stationary bike'. hasn't worked yet.
:umm:

Monday was my last day of therapy. Insurance company deemed that i had enough flexion and strength that more PT wasn't necessary. Gotta love their wisdom.
