THR Tomgirl got the T Shirt

Hi @Tomgirl, I'm sorry you are coping with a bereavement whilst recovering from surgery. Your FIL was a great age and I'm sure you will all miss him. It's lovely to get out and walk, although I'm envious of those recovering where it's warmer than here. I think you might be anticipating snow very soon. I am in the south so we don't get much snow and it's just very grey. I did my first 2 mile walk yesterday and was very proud of myself!

Aww, so sorry for the loss of your FIL.
You sound well otherwise. Coming up on 3 weeks already.
Keep up the good work and enjoy the week
@Tomgirl

thanks @EmEm yes things all a bit tough for hubby at the moment and oh boy would really like some heat right now. Normally we are in Spain this time of the year for a couple of weeks just to break the winter up. We had snow last week, it's gone now, I'd love to think that was it for the winter but who am I kidding! but the walk on Sunday was lovely. Congrats on your 2 mile walk that sounds brilliant you must be so pleased. and @Layla yes things going good otherwise, still trying to be a good recover-er. with a lot of thanks to BS.

Sorry for loss, that is never easy. Glad your recovery is going well.

Glad you are continuing to be a good recoverer.
I told everyone I didn't need any crises while I was getting well...unfortunately life keeps throwing things at us...
You take care.:roseshwr:

Hi there @Tomgirl
I noticed you're a month out already. Wanted to say Hi and see how you're doing?
Hope your absence means you've jumped back into life.
Busy time of year for all with the holidays fast approaching? Only 11 days till Christmas!!
Best wishes for the holidays.....2018 will be great....no more hip pain!

Hi @Tomgirl, just checking to see if your recovery is still going in the right direction. I know you have had other things going on and hope that you have been able to rest as well as support your OH. Take care!

Hi @Layla and @EmEm and @Mojo333 and @Susan209 oh and everyone else out there. I've been meaning to get back to BS for ages now but just had so much going on. My FIL died early in December and it was the funeral last week - it was about a 4 and half hour car journey each way so we decided to stay a couple of nights in hotel. Just got back on Thursday night. The car ride wasn't too bad - had loads of stops just in case. Bit of a panic the day before as my top front tooth dropped out (not a good look) but managed to get to dentists for a temporary repair - just hope repair lasts till after Christmas. I've also been trying to catch up on some work in between getting Christmas tree done, sort out shopping and all the rest. Thankfully HIP is serving me very well, feel as though I'm still making good progress, now down to just using one walking stick now and then, can manage stairs great, although hubby almost had mega fit when he saw me at the top of the stairs with phone in one hand, empty coffee cup in the other and no stick. I behaved, put phone in pocket and got stick but didn't use it just carried it just to show him I could do it. Have done very little in the way of exercise apart from walking, and now down to about 3 tablets per day, - a gradual reduction from the 22 daily I started with. I just see the tablets as a means of keeping me mobile, and of course no pain at all. Yesterday I saw my trainer but just for a chat about getting back to his gym hopefully in a couple of weeks but they will be very easy gentle sessions under his guidance. I have every faith and trust in him, he's done wonders for me and for my hubby who sees him also. Just can't wait, and I need to stop eating for England - but hey it's Christmas, new sensible eating plan will start on January 2nd. I see surgeon on Jan 10th so hope he says I can now drive, get back to the gym and please please get a holiday booked.
Hubby has been brilliant, especially with everything else going on for him at the moment. It will just be the 2 of us for Christmas this year but that's great we really just need a couple of days of lazy relaxation with a walk or two. Oh and yes some wine!!! So looking forward to 2018 with my new hip. I have occasionally looked in on BS but just got to read some posts then something else popped up (usually work related) then had to leave BS. Read some are having a better time than others just hope everyone manages to get to where they want to be with their progress. Must say though that the information and support on BS has been wonderful and I have absolutely no regrets at all about going for the op.
Hope everyone has a great Christmas and nobody nobody gets too ambitious and tries to be too clever before they should. It's a game of patience!!

Hi, @Tomgirl
So nice to read your update. I am so very sorry for the loss of your father in law.
Oooh no, on the tooth, you must have been mortified! A front tooth no less!
I agree on the look :heehee: I guess most of us girls prefer teeth. Thankfully you can laugh about it.
The visual of you at the top of the stairs with phone in one hand and empty coffee cup in the other
as hubby sternly watches :bignono: made me chuckle. It sounds like you're progressing smoothly.
I think eating for England and sharing some vino as you spend Christmas alone with hubby this year
is well deserved after all you've been through. Save the diet for next week, as mentioned.
Sending you a big hug Tomgirl. Warm wishes for a wonderful Christmas and a great 2018!

Happy Christmas @Tomgirl. I'm pleased that you are still progressing well despite long car journeys and work commitments. I hope you have a peaceful, relaxing Christmas and that your follow-up in January clears you to drive and rejoin normal life.

Glad to hear from you. Hope the new year will be new start...
Healing hugs and good mojo coming your way:friends:

Happy New Year to you @Tomgirl
On this first day of a new year, it is a great time to pause and count our blessings.
Warmest wishes the new year brings you peace, comfort, joy and many new blessings!

Just thought I'd ask about driving again after the op. More for UK members I think. I was at the hospital yesterday for my review. All went well and pleased with how it's gone. I did ask if it was OK for me to drive again. I was told yes as long as I can do emergency stop. Going out to try this in local car park this afternoon. They also advised I contact my insurers to tell them I've had hip replacement 8 weeks ago, doctors now discharging me as happy with how it went , and I can do emergency stop. Just wondering why I need to tell them this now. I can just see policy fee happening or am I over reacting?

@Tomgirl I see no reason to call your insurance. Even the DVLA state that if you are discharged and your surgeon has released you to drive they don't need to know anything. If you are off medication and can do an emergency stop - you are good to go. Enjoy!

Hi @Tomgirl i was told I couldn’t drive until 6 weeks and was advised to tell the dvla and my insurance company, which I did. Neither were really bothered and said they didn’t need to make a note anywhere (no charge). Just advised me not to drive before the 6 weeks or I wouldn’t be covered. From memory I don’t think hip replacement is on list of notifiable conditions for the dvla.

I can’t really see any point in you advising them now as you’ve been cleared to drive. I would advise telling whoever you have travel insurance with though.

Hope your hip is continuing to progress well

thanks @Jacey and @Jackie222 can't wait to get that bit of independence back even though hubby has been quite happy to drive me everywhere and I want to drive on Monday for my first session with trainer back at the gym. The new life officially starts on Monday, and over the weekend getting a holiday booked. Life is good.
Jackie is see you are just a few days behind me with your op. Hope all is going well.

Hi @Tomgirl, it’s going really well thank you. Very pleased with how it’s progressing. Wishing I’d had it done earlier. It was great when I could drive again - freedom !!
