THR Tomgirl got the T Shirt

Good job @Tomgirl.
Early days...your body needs the relief the meds bring so don't worry so much.
Happy you are doing so well.
Hope you have a Good Day.

Just reporting in to update, all still going well apart from this morning when I woke up at 6.30 my knee on operated leg felt like it had been wacked with baseball bat! The only thing I could think of is that every night I sleep with legs elevated on a pillow, this seemed to work fine except I think my operated leg must have slid of the pillow and stayed at a funny angle all night. Very painful. Easier when walking around so that's what I did and much better now thank goodness. Just going to have a nap now so bye for now.
Thanks for the bit about sleep apnea @GrannyC luckily hubby is not a regular snorer but when he does he really goes for it. Hope you OK.

Doing well @Tomgirl.
I have my pillow stack and then put a rolled up towel either side of my foot/leg. It’s a bit of a nuisance after being to the bathroom, but works well for me.

Some days @Tomgirl I swear that knee hurt more than the hip! I think they did wack it during surgery. The elevation is good, was easier for me since I stayed in lift chair first couple of weeks. I also used a separate ice pack for knee so I had a couple of bags for icing sessions.

My knee became very sore, a bit swollen and fairly bruised.
None of this happened until 17-18 days post op.
I found it odd and mentioned it at my first post op appt at 3 weeks out.
The PA wasn't concerned. The knee is used as leverage to dislocate the hip.
In considering that....ouch....it's no wonder our poor knee can hurt.
Hopefully yours is a lot better by now @Tomgirl

Thanks @Layla that would explain it, still a bit sore but no where near as bad as sunday & monday. I think that's been the worst pain I've had since the op so still feeling a bit lucky. Ice was a big help.

My knee pain post RTHR was worse than any "surgical" pain. Layla is right - they can really wrench your knee to access the hip joint. I iced and it really seemed to ease this. Had some lovely bruising in the area for awhile!

Just an update.... District Nurse arrived this morning and now all 35 stitches removed. Ouch! but not as bad as I thought it might be. She said wound looked fine and all healing very well. Clean dressing on but can be removed tomorrow and no more dressings required. She thought I was moving well, even coming down the stairs a bit quicker than expected. Told her my plan for gradually reducing the meds which she thought was ok and yes yes no reason why I shouldn't be having wine with Christmas Lunch. I think one glass will have me asleep. Really want to have a walk outside but it is so cold. Not raining though and nice blue sky so when hubby gets back might just get out - 10 minutes would do. And now Poo alert very other day. I've still got another 14 days of blood thinner injections to do, nurse thought my bruised bits were ok - tummy is a bit black & blue at the moment. Never ever thought I'd be self injecting - I'm such a wimp but I'm doing it. As you can probably tell I'm feeling quite pleased with myself but will stick to my plan and after lunch will ice elevate sleep. Then perhaps do a bit of work or perhaps not.

You should be pleased @Tomgirl it's sounds as though you're doing well.
Getting outdoors for a short 10 min walk with hubby would be so nice for you.
I never did injections, can't imagine that. That would take a little getting used to.
My OS recommended aspirin 2x daily for a month. Such different protocol throughout the forum it's crazy!
You sound great....keep it up.

Yay for getting your stitches out, @Tomgirl . I apparently have dissolving ones. Going for check on Monday.
I'm also on Aspirin for 6 weeks. Glad I don't have to do injections. Funny thing is, I'm quite fine injecting the cat (he has diabetes and gets insulin twice a day), but was freaking out about doing it to myself. Go figure... Was very happy when hospital staff told me my OS has his patients take Aspirin.
Going outside is so nice. I'm only going for about 5 minutes at a time (one lap of our courtyard), but gosh, what a welcome change.

No way!? Omgosh....I had no idea!!! I've been wondering why my knee has been bugging me!!! Haha wow, so glad I read that.

Congrats on the stitches coming out @Tomgirl. I'm quite jelly of these stitches and dissolvable stitches I'm reading about, as I'm stapled like Frankenstein! I go on Dec 4 to have them out. My tummy was also quite bruised from the injections at the hospital...which super annoyed me because I inject Humira subcutaneous in my abdomen and rarely ever bruise or hurt. Since home, I'm on an oral blood thinner so that's better. I'll join you in that glass of wine! Miss my wine!

Hope things are easing for you @Tomgirl.
Only two weeks...but you are doing beautifully.
Another month, and things will be even better...excuse to use new Christmas Smilies:tree lights::santaclap::reindeerlights:

Hubby has told me they were not stitches but were staples! He knows I like to show off when I'm being brave. And my reward for that is a nice choccy advent calendar ready for tomorrow. As for the staples must confess it was only for about 5 of them that hurt, and nurse was just apologetic. As for the injections, this terrified me for ages beforehand but my sister swears the day I had it all worked out in my head that I was going for the op, I just morphed into someone else, like injections ok gimme those needles! And honestly it wasn't too bad.
@Susan209 and @danabanana I watched the animated version of the hip, no way could I watch the real thing. My bravery does have boundaries.
@Layla and @Mojo333 so much for my plans to get out for a walk.....we have snow snow snow. Looks pretty though. thanks you for your thoughts.
Must go hubby is calling me to the bedroom for my photoshoot. My scar of course.

We really have no choices about the bravery thing do we?
I think you are handling all so gracefully.
So happy you are getting better.:tada:

You have all made me very happy I didn't have to have shots--just oral blood thinners. I just had a couple of stitches to remove. Rather interesting how the same basic procedure is handled different in different places and by different doctors.

Hello all, hope everyone doing OK, even better than ok. Haven't logged in for a few days as my 94 year old father in law died on friday, and had stuff to do. I'm not doing too bad, actually got out into some fresh air on sunday, hubby drove 5 mins down to the river near us and we had a nice walk there. I'm still walking, resting, icing and elevating, a little ironing, and a little work but so far so good. And happy Poo's. I've missed all the funnies on BS but will get round to catching up on the posts soon I hope. Take care all.
