Revision TKR To Work or Not to Work?

I know now that I will follow this to the letter. I am so happy to be a part of this forum. I will update this daily. Thank you so much for your advice and support. We are stronger as a family.

I totally agree KMAC. At PT today just 6 days from surgery my therapist got rather nasty with me and suggested I was perhaps “not very responsive to our suggestions.” I said certain things hurt, and I wouldn’t do them. Needless to say I am less than one week from surgery and still “raw” and that other than doing things around my house, I didn’t see the need to push my recovery. We left today agreeing to disagree.

Well, it's been almost a year since my TKR and Tuesday, May 29 will be the day of my revision surgery. I ended up finding a doctor in my area that would actually talk to me. Seems that don't want to "step on another doctor's toes" I was told. I have no greater range of motion than I did last July when I had a MUA. In the back of my mind I always knew something was not right with my surgery. I'm very nervous (hell, scared) to go through this again, but I know the outcome has to be worth it.

Hi JMB, I had a TKR on Dec 18th. I also had a MUA on May 7. I am still having a horrible time. My ROM is better than yours, but not where I want to be. I am at 98 degrees flexion (but have been here since January). Has not gotten any better. I’m at -6 extension. My problem is with the pain, swelling and constant stiffness. My pain feels like sharp knives being stuck into my knee. I don’t know what to do, but have scheduled an appointment with another OS. I just can’t get in for a while. I’m probably going to try another OS as well. I hip I don’t have the problem you have where the a new OS won’t touch me. I am worried I won’t be able to work.
I have been thinking the same thing that maybe my original OS used the wrong size.

If you aren't happy with your PT then get another one. Or better yet, don't even go for at least the first month. That will give your knee time to heal. You will probably find out that your knee will heal much quicker without any formal PT.

And this is one of the reasons why I won’t be going to PT next time.

Remember who is paying the bill. You PT should have the customer is always right attitude---why don't you remind him that he works for YOU not the other way round.

Skigirl I like your response. I’ll keep that one at the ready should I need it.

Good for you for standing up for what your knee is telling you. As for that PT getting nasty... you don't have to take that. Ever. From anyone. And certainly not from someone who is working FOR YOU. You are paying this person for help, not abuse. :blackcloud: Six days from surgery a knee needs lots of TLC and consideration, and not very many suggestions.

I had a pushy PT -- he wanted to push on my leg to get extension or flexion... NO, and he wanted me to do leg presses... more NO -- but not once did he ever treat me disrespectfully. I'd go back to him.

Skigirl's advice is spot on! And if it doesn't work, there are lots of other PTs who would love your business.

I agree with Susie, while my therapists did do some aggressive things with my knee, they always had a pleasant and caring attitude. (as they gently continued to push my knee to a bend that I thought my incision would explode!)

Once I found Bonesmart I had more confidence to say no to some things and they never tried to change my mind, they pleasantly accepted my no, I began to cancel appointments and there was never any hassle when I’d show up after missing some.

Disrespect is not acceptable.
